Referee: 3 Offside in your own half?
Sorry, but that is not right. The offside Law was change in 2016 and the free kick is taken where the offence took place. Taylor was only considered to be offside when he played the ball so that is where the free kick should be taken, even if that is in your own half. FIFA made the change to align it with all other free kicks in that regard.
But when he and Parker were offside in their half going forward, the free kick was taken from where they were when originally offside, not where they touched the ball.  So is it now from the farthest forward of the two so as not to penalise the defending team?
It would depend when the linesman made the decision. I am not defending decision, just pointing out that the kick being taken in our half was not necessarily wrong. Taylor was not given offside initially as he had not gained an advantage until he won the header, and therefore became ‘active’. Therefore that is where the offence occurred.

I would assume that with the other offsides that they were judged to be offside when they became ‘active’ and interfered with play or gained an advantage; and that is why the free kick was taken where it was.

I sit in the covered end so I am not able to judge on offsides.

  • Phillips: 6 not much to do, poor distribution.
Solly: 6 defensively sound but gave the ball away a fair bit.
Bauer 8 a rock, unlucky with the penalty
Sarr: 7 not quite so impressive but solid enough
Purrington: 7 best game thus far
    Cullen: 9 absolutely everywhere
Reeves: 7 extra point for the goal
Aribo: 5 hopefully there were plenty of scouts watching this performance!
    Fosu-Henry: 5 lightweight.
Taylor: 7 extra point for the pen and assist
    Parker: 4 offered nothing
    Referee: 5 usual poor standard

Lapslie: n/a looked like he needs a game with the u23’s to sharpen up
Vetokele: n/a didn’t do much when he came on but ahead of Parker in my opinion

  • Phillips: 6 - not much to do. Some poor kicking but that is not his core job
Solly: 5.5 - a little below par and Chris seems to have lost half a yard of pace. Failed to cross the ball several times in the first half when he had good opportunities to do so
Bauer: 8 - another excellent game, save for a silly handball
Sarr: 6.5 - reasonably solid, albeit against a lightweight attack. A few misplaced passes and shaky moments but maybe he was suffering a little tightness
Purrington: 6 - one mistimed header which could have proved costly but he does what it says on the tin - i.e. a very competent League 1 left back
Cullen: 9 - MoTM: as the Curbs used to say about Scott Parker, Josh did the work of two men, which was just as well in the circumstances
Reeves: 6.5 - a lovely header but didn't have much of an impact otherwise. Probably better suited to the tip of the diamond role as, despite his best efforts, he is quite lightweight out of possession and not much of a 'space denier' in midfield. That is obviously much more of an issue without Bielik, who should be back soon
Aribo: 6 - not his usual self owing to illness (as we now know)
Fosu-Henry: 5 - another very frustrating performance. he really needs to up his game and show more desire
Taylor: 7 - ultimately, the match winner for us
Parker: 5.5 - tried hard but looks very pedestrian
