If we (the people) ever got a chance to vote for the death penalty, I for one, would vote yes.

I was thinking more about deterrent than punishment.
I'm against the death penalty mainly because the justice system does get it wrong occasionally. And to take a person's life when they are innocent is, effectively, State murder.
I would, however, impose an automatic 5 year sentence for anyone carrying a knife and make it as uncomfortable as possible for prisoners - not what we have currently in place where many they have a cosy existence and prisons are run by inmates simply because there aren't enough prisons and staff with the correct powers to enforce any punishment. But that would all take money.
Instead every serving Government brushes this situation under the carpet as they also consistently do with the under funding of the NHS. Instead they reward individuals for "services to business and philanthropy" with Honours such as the CBE awarded to the chap who saw a loophole in health service rules, for being the sole supplier of certain drugs, to increase prescriptions by 2500 per cent e.g. £154 for a packet of antidepressants instead of £5.71 and an insomnia treatment that now costs £138 instead of £12.10.

All of the evidence suggests what puts criminals of committing crime is the fear of being caught as opposed to the fear of the punishment
I have to agree with this bloke and do believe he is hearing voices. The voices of many many people condemning the fucking coward and slag of a girlfriend.
With cases like this, where he is guilty beyond any doubt (CCTV, multiple witnesses etc) then i am all for capital punishment. I do not care whether it has any effect on further crime statistics, this scumbag should no longer feel emotion, breathe air, see daylight again. Put him in the ground, keep a cell free as punishment for someone else, save 50k a year and relax knowing this piece of shit is no longer on this earth.
Live in Farnham so followed developments closely. Did a Google search on him when his name was released and found a page which no longer appears which allows me to hazard a guess as to what he was doing carrying a knife. Social media covered by legal reporting restrictions so assume that's why it was taken down and why I can't desribe my hunch. Will await with interest what comes out regarding his background when the trial is underway.
