Anyone know this book?

I have posted on a few forums hoping someone could come up with a title, but it's never happened.

I read a book at secondary school. It was about a young boy who overhears a conspiracy of some sort. I think he hears it in a greasy spoon cafe. Nobody believes him so he tries to solve the mystery himself, but the criminals get onto him so he has to go on the run.

I remember he catches a train, and he has to jump from it. From there he ends up in some sort of shed, where he opens a can of beans with a knife.

That's all I remember. This thread may sink like a stone, but it's worth asking cos I'd LOVE to know what this book was called. I don't even want to read it again, I just want to solve the mystery of the book title.

It’s not that book - the plot is all wrong. And it’s set in Berlin

Might be worth asking on a book website, perhaps Good Reads?

Totally forgot that I posted this thread.

I read it in the early 90s. Pretty sure it was set in London but not certain.

Thanks @stig, I’ll look at some book forums.
