My train is coming to £23 return from Sidcup. Does that sound about right?

Do you know anyone with a gold card? Should be able to get it cheaper than that. I may have missed it but why can you not get the Woolwich line directly to Luton on the Thameslink?

  • I had a rummage in my old away programme pile, and found the programmes from my previous visits to Luton

Both were in 1993 (one February, one November), both were 1-0 defeats.

the only difference is its 51 mins from london bridge as opposed to 20ish from st pancras.

also as never been is there anywhere in luton to drink or is it drink in central before heading to luton.

london bridge boozing could be lively as likely a large blades contingent down for the millwall game.

True, but by the time it takes to get to St Pancras there's probably nothing in it.

just looked the useless wankers what they are south eastern have decided to have no trains on bexleyheath line that day fuckers.

edit 2 weeks in a row 22nd also has no trains saturday or sunday.
  • lovely 500 left and just bought 4 on general sale - don't like to give him much credit but the new website is such an improvement and much easier than ringing up/ going down there.

Booked train for four of us, £7 each return. It seems Luton isn’t the popular day out destination I thought it was.
Where you going from London Bridge or st Pancras?
London Bridge, 50 minutes from there no brainer.

  • Hmm, a horrible away end, but it's been 20 years since I was last there

You'd have to be desperate to take the coach. Leaving Dartford at 9:25 for a 3pm kickoff? That's 5 1/2 hours before kickoff!!!!!!! Or 4 1/4 hours to get there from Charlton?

Used to be the big open end, never been so cold at a football match, early 80's just before Christmas and flood light failure to boot and we lost 3-0.....not for the first time up there.
Yes, I remember that game. It was so cold I couldn't watch the game & retreated to the concourse below.

Mind you it was better than the 7-0 there or was it 7-1 ?
Didn't go to the 7-1 or 7-0......your not getting confused with the Burnley and Brighton games are you?

Remember it well. Possibly my first away game. Roger Kirkpatrick - Mr Pickwick - was the referee and even he took pity on us with the award of a very soft penalty.

Those stats make grim reading. Between 1977 and 87 we played 11 league games against Luton - lost nine, drew two. Other than the 7-1 fiasco, we lost 3-0 at Kenilworth Road on three occasions, and 1-4 at The Valley. But we'll win this one.

  • Sold out, so it will be an extremely cramped 2 hours!

yeah they are every hour so aiming for that one instead of trot to st pancras,

    from football ground guide;

Just inside the away turnstiles, is located a small bar, which serves both draught and bottled beers. Although fairly simple looking inside and with no seating, it serves its purpose. You can also purchase hot pies inside the bar (£3.50) and there is one small television showing the early kick off.

Mick O'Sullivan adds; 'A good place to drink is the Beech Hill Conservative Club on Leagrave Road, which welcomes both home and away supporters. To find the club, with the away entrance in front of you turn left and walk down to the bottom of Oak Road. Proceed through the small arcade of shops opposite and you will see the sign for the club between two shops. It has a large car park (which costs £4) and offers reasonably priced beer. You will be charged to go in, but you make it up on the cheaper than pub beer'.

Whilst in the town centre there are a number of pubs including a Wetherspoons outlet on Bridge Street called the White House.

would imagine a pub with the early kick off on ( west ham vs utd ) will do us.

That 1-0 win at Luton in January 95 when David Whyte scored, was absolutely by miles the coldest i have ever been at a football match.

You know me, a hotbed of culture. Spoons with the early kick off it is.
  • I can see this getting very messy & possibly heated. Seeing as its sold out AND unreserved seating I can see a few "lads" turning up at 2.55 & looking for half a dozen seats together only to find a load of random singles or at best twos. Be prepared for lots of standing in aisles, gangways & exits.

With the terrible legroom, anyone taller than Jay DaSilva will want to stand anyway!

At 5’8” wearing extra socks, I need to stand to see over the seating brigade anyway ;-)

And unless it's changed from years back (which i doubt), then if you're in the first few rows you're almost below pitch level so you'll definitely need to stand

    No I won’t.

It would be nice if one side or a bit in the middle could be for those old gits like me that want to sit, but I do not hold out much hope.

Trouble is I’m now in a awkward space. I grew up on the terraces and I much prefer to watch my football standing up. But I’m now old enough that my knees are f**ked (ironically through too much football) so I struggle to either stand or sit for an extended period; movement helps. I can see the time when I will need to sit rather than stand and I hope by then people will allow me to sit nearer the front :-)
