    Match-day 35 (Sun 28 Apr)

The miracle continues!! FCC have won their 4th consecutive match!!

SpVgg Unterhaching 0-1 FCC  Attn: 3250 (edit: not 500 but approx 800 ex Jena - amazing!!)

86' Felix Brügmann, to settle a hard-fought game. Every bit of good fortune went FCC's way, they don't deny it and they're certainly not complaining. This leaves FCC with 40 points, and - incredibly - above the relegation places. They are 16th (17-20 go down) but with the worst GD of the teams thereabouts.

  • Match-day 36 (Sat 4 May)

FCC 3-4 Würzburg Kickers  Att: 6503

Sadly the recent good form and good fortune deserted our friends from Jena. An early lead - Starke 6' - and a strong opening half-hour did not translate into an appropriate score, the visitors plundering two goals to lead at h/t. For FCC Tietz equalised on 56' but the match finally swung Kickers' way on 79' and 83'. Although Felix Brügmann pulled one back on 84' nothing more materialised and for once FCC finished empty-handed. Regardless of defeat, however, the performance was unrecognisable from even a few weeks ago. Two matches left.

  • Belated news - FCC are in trouble again for fans' misconduct. On Saturday the officials were attacked after the game. A heavy punishment would come as no surprise. A points deduction would mean almost certain relegation. No comment from RD. What the hell keeps him in football??

  • A report about the assault on the referee. Even a small points deduction will mean relegation.

Two serious infringements in one season for FCC. In a loss-making industry piling on fines is valueless but losing league status is both a meaningful punishment and a significant deterrent.

Inglorious scenes in Jena: After the lost game against the Würzburger Kickers a fan of Carl Zeiss Jena has attacked the referee. The club condemned the behavior of their own followers.

The referee of the third division match between the relegation-threatened FC Carl Zeiss Jena and the Würzburger Kickers has been slightly injured after the game by a fan.

As the Thuringian police announced in the night of Sunday, Markus Wollenweber was thrown after a 3: 4 defeat of the host by a fan with a chair after several Jena supporters had previously tried to exceed the fences and attack the referee. The alleged perpetrator was found after the match. Against him and other fans was reported.

The club has now commented on the incidents. "For our FC Carl Zeiss Jena and his loyal fans, it is about nothing less than the league in the third league.Since that the nerves are sometimes bare and unfortunate or wrong refereeing decisions do the rest, may still be no excuse for what after completing the match in Jena ", wrote the Jena, who are acutely vulnerable to relegation with 40 points.

The crossing of the fences and entering the interior is taboo, it said. "That's especially true for assaults, and it does not matter if they are against supporters of other clubs, law enforcement or yesterday's referees." Whether the DFB determined, is still unclear.

  • Are points deductions (rather than pathetic fines) more common in German Football?

Does Roland ever comment much on FCC?

  • I have no idea what sanction/s DFB will impose but the 3. Liga regular season finishes in 8 days, so a response must be imminent.

RD has a factory nearby, in Erfurt. He used to make combined trips, certainly with publicity whilst in Jena, but not for many months now. The static stadium redevelopment may be a major reason for his waning interest.

Exactly!! The geezer with the chair saw the ref was very tired after running around all afternoon and was only offering him the chance to sit down, but the chair slipped ....

I've helped him by adapting the following statement:

Last Sunday Saturday, some individuals did not come to the Valley Ernst-Abbe Sportsfeld to watch the game and support the team, but came to create disorder on the pitch and interfere with the players and the game referee.

    Match-day 37 (Sat 11 May)

    SV Meppen 0-1 FCC   Att: 8692 (around 800 Jenaers - amazing for a 950km+ round-trip)   32' Wolfram

The miracle continues!! After last week's setback the team made a timely return to winning ways and jumped to 16th. Some other results did not go in their favour but they have a real chance of escape now. The two teams a point ahead of them meet in the final round next Saturday; FCC are at home to 1860 Munich, now safely in mid-table, and could finish a remarkable 13th. It can only be hoped that the imbecile who attacked the ref last week does not bring down the wrath of the DFB.

    13  Unterhaching   45  4+
    14  Braunschweig  44  6-
    15  Cottbus           44  7-
    16  FCC                 43  13-
    17  Großaspach     42  3-
    18  Lotte               40  14-
    19  F. Köln            39  24-
    20  Aalen              30  17-

  • Match-day 38 - final day

FCC 4-0 1860 München  Att: 10600 (sold out)

With a remarkable 6 wins from the last 7 matches FCC are safe, finishing 14th on 46 points.

    o.g. 10'   Felix Brügmann 17'  Wolfram 66' and 68'

An extraordinary scrap below. The three teams 15th-17th all had 45 points. 16th and safe came Eintracht Braunschweig GD -6, who played a 1-1 draw at home to Energie Cottbus. Cottbus ended with a GD -7 in 17th, and duly went down by a single goal. Some match - 8 yellows and 2 reds.

FCC's new coach has salvaged the season in style, albeit on the very last day.

  • The goals:
    1 - own goal, a neat header
    2 - poor clearance by 1860 keeper
3 - lovely free kick from 20+ metres
4 - last goal of the season also the best goal of the season, a beautiful cross-shot from an angle
