I thought we were very poor, outmuscled and outfought. We desperately needed someone to step up to the plate, put a foot in where it hurt and inspire the rest of the team. At the end of the day we were not good enough to unlock a very stout and strong defence. I'm gutted but have no complaints about losing to a team which was better in all the key departments.
Shrewsbury had the beating of us simple as that . Morris up Front is quality , aggressive , combative and scores goals kinda what magennis should do and gave Pearce and Bauer a torrid time in both games .
As for us frustrating is an understatement . Cannot fault the players effort those boys ran their bits off but just couldn’t cope with Shrewsbury physically

Well I didn’t touch a drop of alcohol all day and watched sober from where I was standing the effort was definitely there , quality wasn’t .
There was no effort at all for the twenty minutes after HT.
Flew up there and back 2.5 hrs both waze .... Gotta get that app it’s a must for all car drivers and the more people that use it the better it’ll become .
Tame as ever the smaller club wanted it more and we were weak . I’m not too concerned about them having a mental loop and giving it to us when they scored , that’s part of the banter , if you can’t take it don’t give it , the aggro bollox can fuck off . They pushed their game plan to the limits and mingey clubs have to do that , they can’t compete with the big boys and play free flowing footy ,as already mentioned almost wimbledonesque in their approach .
We need ownership sorted quickly and a plan in place for next season , which clearly isn’t happening atm and we are falling behind the curve , the wankiness of our club continues .

“Waze” navigation app Live traffic it’s pretty decent, it got me round the M54 closure no problems and when it estimates journey time it’s decent and will change eta depending on what’s happening ahead of the journey . It’s got me out of some potential nightmares before.

Seeing as Carlton Morris didn’t get booked for that assault on Bauer will the officials retrospectively look at that and do anything?

If its in there, then the referee is acknowledging that he saw what happened and so felt that no action was needed... I was under the impression that retrospective action can only be taken against a player if its not covered off by that report?
Not withstanding the fact that we were pretty abject over the two legs, I thought the performance/display of the referee yesterday was woeful! I noticed Alan Wiley (former prem ref) was there in the stand assessing him and can only hope that he picked up on all of this fella's refereeing inadequacies.
It was an utterly shocking and inept performance where he hid from making the major decisions, particularly early on. This in turn had a massively influential effect/impact on the game as Shrewsbury players very quickly realised they could get away with a 'few' before he had the balls to take any action.
Never have I been so frustrated at a referee's ineptitude as I was yesterday, and it was a sad reflection/indictment on the standard of refereeing at this level.
Yes, it's sour grapes of course, but that clown should be nowhere near a football pitch in future and justice will be served if Morris is 'done' retrospectively and misses the final.

Hendon lost on pens in the Isthmian play off to Dulwich. Hendon were then moved from the Isthmian League to The Southern League (which could have a bad effect on our finances) Charlton lost 1-0 twice 4 days. HSV won (Yay!) but were relegated for the first time in their history.
Oh well, at least I saw a couple of play-offs.....
Shrewsbury are not Manchester City or United or even Blackburn or Wigan. In that context, they are a good side. A great Shrewsbury side for certain. They maximise what they have and if they go up they certainly deserve to. In all honesty, I think we shaded the first halves in both games and they the second halves. But they created more decent chances than us. If it wasn't an effective tactic to bully us, they probably wouldn't have done it. But it is our shortcoming that it is. Yes, a stricter ref may have helped us, but I don't think you see too many of them in League One, even if the refs we had were Championship Ones, I think they let more go because of what they perceive to be a lesser ability level.
Thought we were very naive as a team over the two legs. Weak and soft-centered, outfought and out-thought. Absolutely no idea how to counter their strengths. Therefore we created f-all and deserved f-all. A toothless surrender live on tv.
Okay, no-one expected us to even get into the play-offs a month or so ago. The fact that we did and then just simply didn't perform makes it worse. There was an appearance at Wembley up for grabs. For some of those players it would have been the only one they would ever have had. They still didn't want it enough.
To the future, no-one knows what's going to happen from here. One thing is for certain though. Big changes are needed to the playing personnel. Whether we get that or not remains to be seen.

We need more physicality and more goals - when we get a chance we invariably seem to scuff it or balloon it over! If I was manager, I'd prioritise keeping (or trying to keep) Amos, JFK, Magennis, Bauer, Pearce and Fosu. If somebody wanted to give us a few mill for Konsa, I'd take it and bring in other players with it. We need a goal scorer to play next to Magennis, and that is going to cost unless we get lucky. There are squad players I think we should prioritise keeping too as they could step up - Page, Marshall (would convert him to wing back), Sarr, Reeves, Djksteel and Aribo.

Haven't read any posts or looked at a paper so please forgive me if I repeat what others have stated.
After our drive up to Shrewsbury & a pre match drink with our gang, I have to admit that I wasn't filled with nervous excitement as I'd hoped. I'm not the most optimistic of Addicks at the best of times and honestly felt that we didn't have enough goals in us to gain a place in the Final.
And sadly, I wasn't wrong.
So, my thoughts on the match are basically that our build up, going forward, was too slow, with mainly only Fosu trying to take the ball through on his own, running at the Shrews' defence. But therein lay another of our problems...
I've posted before that nearly every team we've encountered this season has been full of "giants" compared with our players of relatively small stature ( with notable exceptions of course such as Saar) This is L1 after all....It was clear from the 1st leg that the Shrews out muscled & out jumped our lads and it became more evident yesterday, with Tariqe routinely bumped/crowded off the ball making his contribution less effective than hoped for.
However, in my book, the referee failed to clamp down on the numerous fouls committed against us and having just watched the match highlights, the blatant elbowing of our BFG which surely deserved a straight red. Had he seen fit to produce it, their goal scorer would have been absent from proceedings for much of the game but maybe his scheduled Spec Savers appointment had been cancelled...And clearly, said official requires a refresher course in anatomy before next season begins as anyone watching the replay of events ( and JFC will agree) can plainly see. It could have been all so different....
We DID have our moments though, especially in the first half but once again, failed to make those half chances count. I didn't think our free kicks or indeed our corners hit the spot (literally!) which was disappointing - oh for our Rickeee or indeed Jacko! And when we threw the kitchen sink at our opponents as the final whistle approached, their 'keeper was clearly rattled but again, we couldn't take advantage of his nervous handling. I'm certain that others in attendance were echoing our thoughts that Naby could have played a positive part in proceedings if brought onto the pitch sooner but no blame could be laid at Bowyer's door.
It was a disappointing end to our roller coaster season but not an unexpected one.
Having only just heard Bow's post match comments, my admiration for the gaffer has increased- something I didn't feel was possible. No excuses, no criticism and such honesty. How refreshing is that and what a contrast from the numerous, empty words heard time after time from his predecessor ! The faithful have indeed taken this guy into our hearts and it would be a sad day if we learn of his departure from our football club.
Finally, no report of the match would be complete without a mention of Captain Fantastic. Our hearts went out to him as he went through the motions of applauding the away end amidst the hordes of Shrews' fans that had made the pitch their own at the final whistle. I could only hazard a guess at the thoughts racing through his head & the emotions he was experiencing but his face said it all. Everyone hoped for a triumphant end to this iconic man's playing career but sadly, it wasn't to be. We can only hope that this is not the end of one very special relationship and that there are more, and better days to come. We love you, Skip.
I just wanted to add that, for those of you not present at this season's POTY dinner, we, the organisers, made the decision to make a special award to JJ to commemorate the 8 great years he had shared with us. It was in the form of a plaque, made to order which hopefully summed up the fans' feelings for him. The words in white capital letters read " Johnnie, Oh Johnnie Jackson runs down the wing for me" on a red background with a black frame around it. In the bottom, right hand corner in smaller capitals was " From the Charlton Faithful. Captain Fantastic. Charlton Legend. 2010-2018 " alongside the Charlton badge. Unfortunately, it may be that in our haste to comply with Bow's instructions to bring the event to a conclusion earlier than usual, but for obvious reasons, there is no photograph to look back on in years to come. I intend to look into this and maybe we can sort something out so that this moment is captured for everyone to enjoy.
In the meantime, I hope that this was a gift that all Addicks would agree was testament to a player who will live long in our memories. They definitely broke the mould when they made you, Jacko.

I don't want to get too scientific but Erwin Schrodinger would say that in another reality, the ref red carded Morris and gave us a penalty. That universe with Charlton progressing to Wembley following a KaiKai winner is unfortunately not the one we are lumbered with! But there are versions of ourselves celebrating today! Lucky bastards!

Had he seen fit to produce it, their goal scorer would have been absent from proceedings for much of the game but maybe his scheduled Spec Savers appointment had been cancelled...And clearly, said official requires a refresher course in anatomy before next season begins as anyone watching the replay of events ( and JFC will agree) can plainly see. It could have been all so different....
We DID have our moments though, especially in the first half but once again, failed to make those half chances count. I didn't think our free kicks or indeed our corners hit the spot (literally!) which was disappointing - oh for our Rickeee or indeed Jacko! And when we threw the kitchen sink at our opponents as the final whistle approached, their 'keeper was clearly rattled but again, we couldn't take advantage of his nervous handling. I'm certain that others in attendance were echoing our thoughts that Naby could have played a positive part in proceedings if brought onto the pitch sooner but no blame could be laid at Bowyer's door.
It was a disappointing end to our roller coaster season but not an unexpected one.
Having only just heard Bow's post match comments, my admiration for the gaffer has increased- something I didn't feel was possible. No excuses, no criticism and such honesty. How refreshing is that and what a contrast from the numerous, empty words heard time after time from his predecessor ! The faithful have indeed taken this guy into our hearts and it would be a sad day if we learn of his departure from our football club.
Finally, no report of the match would be complete without a mention of Captain Fantastic. Our hearts went out to him as he went through the motions of applauding the away end amidst the hordes of Shrews' fans that had made the pitch their own at the final whistle. I could only hazard a guess at the thoughts racing through his head & the emotions he was experiencing but his face said it all. Everyone hoped for a triumphant end to this iconic man's playing career but sadly, it wasn't to be. We can only hope that this is not the end of one very special relationship and that there are more, and better days to come. We love you, Skip.
I just wanted to add that, for those of you not present at this season's POTY dinner, we, the organisers, made the decision to make a special award to JJ to commemorate the 8 great years he had shared with us. It was in the form of a plaque, made to order which hopefully summed up the fans' feelings for him. The words in white capital letters read " Johnnie, Oh Johnnie Jackson runs down the wing for me" on a red background with a black frame around it. In the bottom, right hand corner in smaller capitals was " From the Charlton Faithful. Captain Fantastic. Charlton Legend. 2010-2018 " alongside the Charlton badge. Unfortunately, it may be that in our haste to comply with Bow's instructions to bring the event to a conclusion earlier than usual, but for obvious reasons, there is no photograph to look back on in years to come. I intend to look into this and maybe we can sort something out so that this moment is captured for everyone to enjoy.
In the meantime, I hope that this was a gift that all Addicks would agree was testament to a player who will live long in our memories. They definitely broke the mould when they made you, Jacko.
