Chanting at corners

Back in the 60s & 70s, the chant was invariably:

"Oh, it's a corner! Oh, it's a corner! ..... In the NET! .... In the NET!"

We'd often score from a corner. Of course in those days, the corner kick always cleared the 1st defender, flicked on at the near post over the keeper - and with defenders wrong-footed, there was the late run to the far post, as the ball was met full on and thundered into the net

And in the Covered End always followed by, "Knees up Mother Brown" as we all linked up in a massive knees up.

Showing my age, @Oggy Red , but my first thought when I read the thread title was in line with your post.

Seem to remember Paul Gasgoine having his name chanted by the Covered End as he was about to take a corner and him clapping back in return. Was also on a train back from an away game when he bought everyone a drink in the bar.
Sad to see how he has ended up.

    Middlesbrough away that was Stevie.
Gazza was subbed early and travelled back with us.
He was supposed to have been stopped drinking at the time but he certainly had a few that day.
Top bloke and as you say sad how he has ended up.

Back around 1970, we were home to high flying Sheffield Utd.

We were struggling and Sheff Utd were awarded a controversial penalty.
Amongst the intense booing, as their midfielder Tony Currie stepped up to take it the Covered End erupted with, " Chicken Curry!, Chicken Curry! ......"

    He still scored.

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, if Charlton won a corner it would be the cue for a few loud and repeated choruses of ‘come on you reds’. For any number of reasons, not least of which could be the now traditional lethargic stroll by the Charlton players to give the defending team plenty of time to set up their defensive positions so they don’t concede, the chant from the Covered End and Upper North, after the two rounds of clapping, tends to be (sometimes) followed by a quick and almost embarrassed one time chant which finishes long before the kick is taken. In the spirit of last week’s inspired ‘revival’ perhaps a little more urgency to take the corner from the players and a revival of come on you reds when the kick is about to be taken might be more effective....or not as the case may be

    Come on you Reds...
