    Oh yea
  • This isn't a reaction to one bad result. I've been more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

We've been poor since November. Something like 21 points in 18 games is barely good enough to avoid relegation.

Things came to a head for me yesterday because it was there for all to see what a decent manager can do and that was the final nail in KR's coffin. They didn't just beat us, they completely outplayed us.

    This.

We have been dreadful for a long time now. Walsall at home was about the only game I can remember thinking we played ok.

The Manager has had long enough to realise his formation doesn’t work.... but he persists with it. He continues to pick players that are not good enough / struggling.

We don’t score enough goals, always look like we are going to concede and the game management is appalling.

If and when a new owner comes in, the first job has to be to tell Robinson his contract has been terminated.
What is it about the formation, as opposed to the players or patterns of play or defensive rigidity, that is not working?
  • We're just poopoo.

Knowing Ricky & having been to many a match with him - I don't think he's going to be analyzing patterns of play or degrees of defensive rigidity!

He know's his stuff & I trust his judgement 100%

You don't need a Masters Degree in Football Tactics to have sussed that Robinson is not the right manager to take us forward & 17 points from the last 16 games is not acceptable.

I should also add that @ricky_otto committed some of the worse fouls I have ever witnessed on a football pitch - every week!

Does Roland still claim to watch all our matches on his own personal feed? No, didn't think so.
  • We’ve only won 5 out of our last 18 league games. People have every right to be losing patience with Robinson. Too many people keep thinking this is just a blip and keep banging on about our good start to this season which was over 5 months ago. Time to live in the present people. 5 wins against dire opposition in our last 18 league games is quite frankly dire.

That so many seem to see this as progress - five wins from 18 in League 1 - says all we need to know about life under the Belgian.

Some of our happy clappy supporters seem content watching a pile of shit.
  • I love it when people say we had an off day - that suggests we normally have an on day. We've been shit for months years.

    That's more like it !!

  • The anger and frustration is not just about what happens on the pitch.
I have watched Charlton since 1966 and was a season ticket holder until last season.
I have not been at all this season.
My daughter asked me whether I would like to go yesterday and I couldn't get any enthusiasm to say "Yes".
It took her a considerable time to persuade me.
It was a poor performance from top to bottom and, walking away from the ground, where I used to be in a really bad mood, I wasn't.
My passion for watching the club has been run over by a steamroller and I can only hope that it returns once RD has gone and we have an owner that cares about success on the pitch.
    What a legacy to leave.

This post captures the thoughts of thousands.

    Ricky_Otto=Next manager of Charlton.
  • Ok so we wern't at the races yesterday. But prior to then for the past few weeks we have been playing better. Even in the games we were getting pegged back in. I think yesterday's performance is a one off and we will play a lot better next week. Hopefully result to match.

Well if you insist on 4-5-1, but don't have a striker who is proven at, and happy with, the "1" role, you are doomed to failure.

  • Let's just analyse this in calm, mature and adult manner. So we weren't good enough on the day. So what it happens. It's first poor one for a few weeks, since Gills.

I have a pragmatic philosphy. It's to analyse why we didn't perform to the best of our abilities. We simply lost our coolness when Shrewsbury managed to get a foothold in the game. We have to remember they are in the top two and play a high pressing, play in your face game. I think the reason why we didn't play the way Karl wanted is because maybe we lost a bit of patients playing their way and reverted to what we are best at. But yes we need to be more patient at that type of game and work on improving on it. It certainly wasn't a dishonest non caring performance by any stretch.

This is the business end of the season when we look to losses into a least a draw and a draw into a win. We were doing it earlier in the season. It's creapt out a wee bit recently. But hopefully we can start doing it again. It is important in this period that players and fans alike keep a calm attitude.

This is at least your second thread telling everyone to calm down because it's just one bad performance. I think the problem is you've confused complacently watching the team under-perform given its resources for helpful positivity. Shrugging your shoulders every time we play crap and claiming everyone else is overreacting just ignoring the problems that need dealing with. I haven't been to The Valley in a good few games thanks to Roland, but telling the people who go every week to calm down when they watch a crock of shit isn't too helpful
  • so just be clear, have we 'not got our Charlton back' yet Karl?

Sometimes we need to be more rational.

    It's not 451 it's 4231.

To play that you need a really good no.10 which we had in Clarke and very mobile and three interchangeable forwards with pace and power.

Karl tried to play that formation last season without the players. We nearly went down .

He played it with Clarke and Holmes and it worked to a degree but remember we were still only 4th or 5th.

He continues to try and play it but without a number ten.

He's tried Reeves (terrible), Aribo, Fosu, Kaikia, Holmes as a number 10 but he wont try a different formation.

Every team knows how we play and how to stop us.

Mavididi covered a lot of our weaknesses. We need to be able to change it around, we need to play to our strengths, not to a dogma because that is what 4231 has become.

Nothing wrong with 4231 but nothing wrong with 442, 352 or 343 either.

    Just win games.
A League One equivalent of Didier Dogma is exactly what we need up front IMO.
  • Robinson is the latest in a long line of shit managers we've had under RD. He might be a nice bloke for all I know but I've had enough of our pitiful displays under him.

What alarms me is that we have supporters who seem unable to reognise how crap we are. Are we watching the same team?

If we improve, go on a winning run and secure promotion then I will happily admit I was wrong.
  • The anger and frustration is not just about what happens on the pitch.

This I can relate to so much......... since 1966, in my case, and over 25 years a season ticket holder, though now exiled on Wight (not Parkhurst!) So much history, many ups and downs, plentiful disappointments and celebrations. Yet now ....... Sky Sports money and a very self indulgent, negligent FA have destroyed most hope for all but a few perennials. Fit and proper owners? Really? What a poisoned Blatteresque charade the game has become. Thanks to greedmeisters like Blatter, Duchatelet and the FA, not to mention misappropriation of public funds to financing the likes of West Ham (whose directors could surely have gone to the porn brokers if in need of funding). Football has already seen the Orient go West. Many clubs will follow.

    Charlton's never ending,
    Wricurkincam rants,
    We are not pretending,
But three lines in our pants,

    Send the Belgian home,
    Just send him home
    He has us shafted,
    Walloony scrote
    Or Flemish throat,
    Don't know, but he's a ba*****d,

Send the Belgian home etc; and fade...... (but not Charlton....)

I agree the 10 had been a real problem. But if our our problem is isolating the forward and struggling to connect midfield to attack I don't know that 4-4-2 is the answer. As for three at the back, right wingback remains the problem. Solly is struggling to get up and back as a fullback, and Marshall is struggling terribly as a winger, both their natural positions.

I think there are coaching and tactical flaws that would belie any formation. Bring susceptible to crosses from deep is certainly one. Finishing is another obviously. One big gripe I've had of late is the late of triangles and intricate play we did brilliantly in the first 5-10 minutes, and then it all went away.

Lastly, want to give another plug for my theory that the first things new owners should do is hire an experienced assistant for Robinson. We have two coaches on the bench who have zero experience. Full stop. Yes they were/ate both successful players but it's not the same. And one is literally on the bench every week so when he's on the pitch we have one assistant.

I appreciate you answering in an intelligent and insightful way,

@Sage there's a lot of good stuff in your post. I agree the centerbacks are a problem, but to be fair most of the chopping and changing there has been due to injury, with the exception of leaving Lennon is for Oxford which was a huge mistake as he was awful two weeks prior. I'll try and come back later and go more into it.

Also I do agree with the OP to some extent. We're not good and haven't been that good for a while, and it's really frustrating. But the lows of bad results seem to plummet new depths each week.

I really hope the takeover helps that. I feel like it adds to the tension a lot. I hope with new owners there will be a renewed feeling that this club had a future.
