Tool theft - can you all help?

  • Or put in a winning bid, ask to view before you pay the money over & take the old bill with you...
  • My next-door neighbour has just had his van done - clearly by pros, because there are two neat 1 1/2" drill holes around each of the side and back locks.  Hither Green, whilst he was working.  Diligently carries all his tools in at night, they've taken the stuff that he needs for work for that particular job, and was just not using at that particular minute.  And the the drilling must have drawn attention, you'd think, so the scum have done noisy drilling, stolen all his stuff, and been off in a flash.

Mention upthread of some sort of immobiliser for tools that needs to be linked to your phone or something - is that a thing you can now get?  It would be good, given he has to replace everything, if he can buy stuff that is of no use to anyone but him?
  • I saw on the television a while ago from America a thing about bait cars to catch people. I have no idea if that would be possible here, but this particular crime seems ripe for setting up some kind of entrapment thingy.
I might be well wide of the mark with that suggestion.

That idea has been used recently i remember reading it. The police used a van full of tools with trackers and made a few arrests. Cant remember where it was but i dont think it was Met police
  • My vans been done twice in Whitechapel now. Would love to set up some kind of sting operation. Even thought about hiding in the back of a van until one of these little rats has a pop at it. Rep locks and hook locks are a must on vans now.

You would hope a tool company would spot the opportunity for a bit of good PR and replace them FoC.
I spoke to them to see if I could help and they said Toolstation (think that's right) was replacing them and a masons group had donated 2k and individuals about the same.
Unfortunately that was £2000 worth of cold chisels...
  • One of my engineers had his land rover stolen the other night. This was professional as they removed his grill, front head light and other stuff to get to his immobiliser to silence it. Further more they knew how to start it without a key.

He found a Philips screwdriver in the road so hopefully they may get some evidence from that.

If you know an auto electrician or an electrician they could install a discrete link in the ignition system that would require to be enabled before starting, a friend has done that with his Audi, as he had a break in and a few weeks later they tried to steal it. Luckily he was in and fought them off.

  • stupidly yesterday whilst working on a shop fit out, some dickhead labourer left a back door open, 30 seconds later my backpack went missing.

    inside it

    ipad mini 2013 model
    ping golf jacket
    adidas trainers
    car keys
    house keys
    girlfreinds flat keys
    headphones

spoke to the police - not interested as cant do much.
insurance company - wont cover as door was open and the excess wouldnt really be worth it.

do love working to have your shit stolen.

vile cunts who need stringing up.

and before the do good brigade come here and moan about people needing to survive etc, this isnt a tin of beans its someones goods that they have worked and paid for. and my assumptions will be some sort of drug addict to feed an addiction or one of these gangs of thieves that see it as a full time job. either way hope that have a slow and extremely painful one.

I highly doubt anyone on here would defend nicking someone else’s personal property regardless of the situation.

Sorry to hear what happened, they really are utter scumbags

Would be suprised, for me personally someone nicking a tin of food to survive - yes wrong but it’s life and death.
  • As you say, people don't nick rucksacks from the back of unlocked vans because of desperation, they need to have ways of passing your personal belongings on, set up and in place. This kind of theft has nothing to do with poverty, it's organised imo.

Coming from a "gammon" with lived experience and who has been on the bones of his arse and very desperate in the past.

You seem obsessed with bean theft!
  • I hope that you get the items back mate and they find the scum that did this...shooting them would be good but a waste of bullets.
  • Sorry to hear this particularly the loss of the item from your grandad.

  • Locks replaced £75 for my house.
Car key I have a spare and it’s an old fiesta so no way of tracing it.

Am I right in saying if this user connects to wifi, it will show the location?

I'm not too familiar with it all sadly.
