Anyone do Junior Parkrun with the kids? Do you run with them or leave them to it?

I marshal sometimes at Hilly Fields juniors and most of the really little kids have someone running with them, but after about eight lots are on their own (the junior parkruns are more tightly marshalled) - only rule is no adults in the finish funnel.

Hoping to start doing this from next week. Have a couple of stone to lose and would like to get a bit fitter too, realised since I crossed 40 it is more difficult than just watching what I eat!

where are you planning to run?
Norman Park in Bromley as I can drop my little one at the race course for him to do his own activities whilst I run. Anyone been there to do it?
Used to do Bromley which is flat. However Beckenham has just started one in Beckenham Place Park, it is still flat but think it is a nicer run personally.

Maybe due to being new and only 200 people there at present. Bromley was getting over 500 which was quite tight in places.

Done it in 28 mins this morning, always feels like you can have an extra beer on match days if you do Park run in the morning!
There were over 700 today and 800 + last week apparently. Crowded but ok for the likes of me whom are just starting. Prob easier for me to get to Beck Place Park and agree it would be nicer but Norman wins cause my 6 yr old can be dropped (albeit at a cost) at the stadium for an hour to do his own fitness which he loved today.

A very ploddy 42:53 but another one done. So much easier to stay in bed and although it's a struggle always so pleased to have made the effort after finishing.

I miss it badly, missed the last three weeks. Being ill is shit.

Think the Beckenham one has been going years as often "considered" doing it when I lived there (never got out of bed to actually do it!)

Yeah I'm missing running at present...be grateful you're not laid up with bruised knackers mate...could be worse!

Supposed to be doing a 10 mile race next Sunday but dubious as to whether that will happen.

27.40, roughly the same time and finishing place, but all things considered I'm happy enough with that. Very muddy and slippery in places, but always feel better for having done it.

Straight back, shower, then weekly shop, now taken kids swimming. Lunch then allegedly I'm taking my eldest on a bike ride to do some birdwatching...

Nearly at the end of dry January, thankfully, as this is me right now:

First time out today and did 27.30 which I am happy about, some way to catch my brother at sub 20mins but he got all the running genes and I got all the lardy ones.! Enjoyed it and Norman park is great if you have little ones cause they can do mini bees at the stadium whilst you run.

So, my second time out and I made 26.46 which I am well happy with. Only problem is I have slept the last hour because of it and I seem to have strained a muscle in my calf which I am hoping will be ok but probably means I will be out for 6 weeks! Made it to the track after to see my 6 year old win his 400m, to be fair being twice as tall as everyone else in his year helps.

Great to see so many lifers enjoying park run - I love it! and nearing 100. Tried the new flat and fast lancing beach this morning and just over 22 mins. Bit windy on the coast this morning.

Clapham Common Park run has had over 1000 turn up for each of the last two weeks.
But temperature of one degree (‘feels like’ -4) expected tomorrow.
Think I’ll probably sit this one out :-(

Twisted my knee running home from work 2 weeks ago, been in constant pain since, finally saw a doctor today who is almost certain I've torn my meniscus and has referred me to a knee specialist, will hopefully get an appointment in the next week so no parkruns for me for the time being.

Sadly I’m going to have to miss another week. Going to be right back to square one once I start exercising again :-(

Good luck to everyone out in the morning

Chin up mate. You can run into your 70s, 80s and beyond so keep it in perspective it's a tiny absence in the bigger scheme of it and you'll appreciate it all the more when your back at it.

Dry January gave way to half a mild February. How that sustained me until 11pm I'll never know. The only thing running tomorrow will be my guts

Missing my first parkrun since the summer today, had thought about going over to Victoria Dock but waded home from the station after midnight through a load of slush and decided to skip it.

Really surprised that Greenwich Park Run was on today and frankly I don't think it should have been. Paths were covered in snow, slush and ice. The area where people congregate before the run was a bloody ice rink! People slipping and sliding all over the place. Although I felt really good today and my legs were not their usual lead weights I could not push myself as I was so concerned about slipping over. Subsequently I recorded one of my slowest runs 46;23. I doubt there were many PB's today.

Tough, cold and windy on the coast this morning. Almost a minute slower than last week. Didn’t help being up half the night with the baby, not to mention Friday night beers and curry.

do you also do the attendance figures at the Valley? they have only ever had over 1k once and that was a month ago. looks like lots of others took your option of sitting it out

I went to St Albans today as they have an alternative cross country course, great fun running in a couple of inches of snow

Reading your posts about park runs with interest.  Maybe in UK (London/SE London area) between 2nd -10th March.  Are there any races on?  What distances are the runs and how do you sign up??

They are everywhere, every Saturday at 9am and all 5k in distance. You just need to register on the parkrun website in advance, you’ll be mailed a link to compete register, and you will then have to print off version of your barcode to present on the morning after you’ve completed your run to be given a time.

They are on every Saturday at 9am,5k. Plenty in SE London Greenwich (Avery Hill Park), Bexley (Danson Park) Brockley (Hillyfileds) http://www.parkrun.org.uk/ all info on that link. You don't have to register if you don't you won't get an official time. Registration is simple and it's all free.
