  • Sex Pistols

    Friggin' in the riggin'
    Friggin' in the riggin'
    Friggin' in the riggin'
There was f**k all else to do

    Jilted John

    But I know he's a moron
    Gordon is a moron
    Gordon is a moron
    Gordon is a moron
  • I'm so glad that you are here
And I know that it's been years
I'm just glad to see you
And there's no need for tears

    Time's best friend is fear
That's how it can find us
    And do it's greatest kindness
    Always to remind us
That it's our only time, inside this body and this mind

    Regina Spektor
  • Roxette, I don't want no more of your tricks
I'm gonna get some concrete mix
And fill your back door up with bricks
And you better be there waiting
When I get my business fixed

  • I Think It's Going To Rain Today By Randy Newman, used in the opening credits of Broken, sung by the great Nina Simone
  • Grandaddy wrote some really weird yet touching songs. Jed the Humanoid is about two guys who build a self-aware robot - Jed - and leave it on its own. But Jed gets depressed and drinks himself to death.

There are two or three more songs about Jed, one in particular is the poetry he wrote before he died. The lyrics in these songs shouldn't work, but they really do.

  • London Girls by Chas and Dave.
It is not thought provoking stuff but my god it really cheers you up.
Have a look and give yourself a chuckle.

  • The things they do look awful cold.
    Talkin' bout my generation.
I hope I die before I get old.
  • Not the best ever, but this bit from Vince, the lovable stoner, by The Fratellis always amuses me:

Now vince got a big crush
    on the girl from redrush
    took her out for tacos
    said she liked burritos

and he said shes so easy
    brought up in the country
she gets naked for a living
    she aint afraid of giving

and i havent seen a pupil in his eyes for 16 days
the catholic girls love him in a hundred million different ways
an hes been up for days
    in a big malaise
hes only living till the salad days

  • Why does it hurt when I pee...F.Zappa
  • Queen - Days of Our Lives

    Freddie Mercury's final farewell.
  • Big Shot - Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

    I am the Big Shot.
You heard me right the first time, name of bachelor, Johnny Cool.
Occupation: big shot. Occupation at the moment: just having fun.
What a party that was, the drinks were loaded and so were the dolls.
I narrowed my eyes and poured a stiff Manhattan, then I saw... Hotsy.
What a dame, a big bountiful babe, in the region of 48-23-38. One hell of a region.
She had the hottest lips since Hiroshima, I had to stand back for fear of being burned.
"Whisky-wow-wow", I breathed; she was dressed as Biffo the Bear.
In that kind of outfit, she could get rolled at night...
And I don't mean on a crap table.

"It's kind of revealing, isn't it?"
"Revealing? It's positively risqué, I like it."
She said, "You're the man of a thousand G's, right?"
    "A thousand what?", I quipped,
"Why, G-man, girls, guns, guts... You're my type"
"Wrong, baby!", I slapped her hard, "I'm an L-man. Strictly liquor, love and laughs"
She stared over my shoulder. "Play it cool, Johnny."
"Play it what?", I flipped. "Listen, I fought my way up from tough East-Side New York. Lead-filled socks and sub-machine guns. Like this!"

She said, "Johnny this is a deadly game, have a few laughs and go home."
I shuddered. Normally I pack a rod; in pyjamas I carry nothing but scars from Normandy Beach.
I said, "Wrong, baby, you can't fool me."
She spat playfully. "I'm ahead of you, Johnny."
I studied the swell of her enormous boobs and said,
"Baby, you're so far ahead it's beautiful!"

"You, you are, you're eccentric, I like that."
"Electric, Cherie, bugged off my rocker, tu comprends?" We spoke French fluently.
Our lips met again and again, "Yeah yeah yeah," I slobbered.
Hotsy said, "You're slobbering all over the seat, kid."
I went home, late. Very late.
What could I say to my wife? "Darling, I've been beaten up again"?
Let's face it, she's credulous as hell.
A punk stopped me on the street. He said, "You got a light, mac?"
I said, "No, but I've got a dark brown overcoat."
  • Rupert Holmes chat-up speil

    Our National Pastime"

I met her at a baseball game
That got held up by August rain
Beneath the mezzanine I huddled up against her hand
By then the rain had left the ground
And Seger threw a few on the mound
We stood to face the flag that flew above the Navy band
Then the anthem began to blare through the stadium
It rang through the open air
And I knew this was the time to make my pitch

Won't you come home with me?
I've a room you should see
    With a warm waterbed
    And pillow for your head
I've a robe you could wear
    And smoke we could share
You are blond – I am tall
And I think that says it all
    A quick glass of wine
Then I'll feed you a line
    Nilsson will sing
And you won't feel a thing
Oh say you will stay with me, love
Must I say "I love you?"

"Well, how do ya' like my pad?"
"Oh, it's great. I mean, I love purple."
    "I – I bet you're an Aquarius, aren't you?"
    "No. Actually I'm a Leo."
"I knew you were one of those."
"You know, Leos are very big on Women's Lib."
    "I don't, uh, believe in Women's Lib."
"Uh, somehow I didn't think you did."
"Let me just turn on the hi-fi here."
"Oh, that's pretty. Uh, what kind of wine is this?"
    "Oh, that's uh – that's red wine."
    "Red! That's my favorite kind."
"Are you having a terrific time?"
"Oh, yeah. I'm having a very terrific time."

    Oh, stay for a lifetime
At least wait until the late show

"So you didn't tell me your name."
    "My name is Karen."
    "That was my mother's name."

When you want more than you have
    You think you need
And when you think more than you want
    Your thoughts begin to bleed
I think I need to find a bigger place
'Cause when you have more than you think
    You need more space

  • On a slightly different tangeant, Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People sounds like a sweet song, until you realise it's about a school shooting.

you know were having good days

  • Happy Birthday lyrics can't be beat!!
  • If you are in a downbeat frame of mind, what about -

I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come up with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us

I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late

And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
    Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town

    again, in my life
    I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
    And I hope you die
    I hope we both die

I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong

I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
And I hope I never get sober

And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way

    I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
    Hand in unlovable hand

    And I hope you die
    I hope we both die

Is that about the Hiroshima bombing? Lovely!
  • You spend your time in smokey rooms
Where haggled old women with cheap perfume say
"It never happens for people like us, you know"
Well nothing ever happened on it's own
And well the toilet smells of desperation
The streets all echo of aggregation
And you wonder why you can't get no sleep
When you've got nothing to do
And you've had nothing to eat
Your life's slipping and sliding right out of view
And there's absolutely nothing that you can do, well

    We'll live and die
We'll live and die in these towns
Don't let it drag you down
Don't let it drag you down now

    We'll live and die
We'll live and die in these towns
Don't let it drag you down
Don't let it drag you down now

Dirty dishes from a T.V. meal
That went cold from the wind through a smashed up window
You can't go out if anybody calls you
'Cause you can't have a bath When there's no hot water
And your friends are out on the town again
And you ask yourself if it will ever end
And it's all too much for your head to take
Just a matter of time before you break, well

    We'll live and die
We'll live and die in these towns
Don't let it drag you down
Don't let it drag you down now

  • These are nice:

A wouldn't it be nice to get on with me neighbours
But they make it very clear
They've got no room for ravers
They stop me from groovin', they bang on me wall
They doing me crust in, it's no good at all - ah

    Lazy Sunday afternoon
I've got no mind to worry
I close my eyes and drift away-a

Here we all are sittin' in a rainbow
    Gor blimey hello Mrs. Jones
    How's old Bert's lumbago? He mustn't grumble
    Tweedle dee bite
I'll sing you a song with no words and no tune
    Tweedle dee bite
To sing in your party while you souse at the moon - oh yeah

Lazy Sunday afternoon-a - tweedle dee bite - tweedle dee bite - tweedle dee bite
I've got no mind to worry - yeah - I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift away-a

    Root-de-doo-de-doo, a-root-de-doot-de doy di
A-root-de doot de dum, a-ree-de-dee-de-doo dee - doo doo ....

There's no one to hear me, there's nothing to say
And no one can stop me from feeling this way - yeah

    Lazy Sunday afternoon
I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift away
    Lazy Sunday afternoon
I've got no mind to worry
Close my eyes and drift a-
Close my mind and drift away
Close my eyes and drift away
  • If I could have ever written anything as good as this I would probably write no more.

Lonely is the room the bed is made
The open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one
Who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep
    That won't ever come
    It's never over,
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles
When I slept so soft against her
    It's never over,
All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
    It's never over,
She is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever
