Probably the right decision. He's got pots of money and isn't getting any younger. He can also probably see Palace are ripe for relegation next season.

Could well be... Maybe the Palace job was just his way of showing people that he still was a good Manager and could keep any club in the Premier League despite everything that happened with the England scandal.
Hmm recovered his reputation, sort of, and made enough money to retire on. Hats off to him really. Come Christmas several teams will be begging for his services and offering him silly money...will he be lured back? will the drive to succeed still be there? I think he would be better off on his yacht away from the crazy pressures of the Premier League. Amazing managerial career for a very ordinary Millwall centre half.

Dunno why but just dont see him doing well at a normal Managers job - I class him in the group of Managers who can do well getting top players to listen to them (ignoring Tevez and Balotelli), can spend a bit of cash yet would be rubbish having to work within a budget etc.

I think that is it, he just has not looked the same almost like he did not have the same buzz, i think the funds at Palarse was not really what he wanted and has thought sod this i am done.

Never really rated him to be honest.
Ok he did well at inter but he had a great team and was helped by Juve getting relegated. He never did well for them in Europe and Mourinho then took over and won the CL. He almost fucked up the league title that he did win at City, did nothing in Europe and even managed to lose a cup final to Wigan! Didn't win the league at Galatasaray and was terrible when he went back to Inter.

From his point of view, instead of being the guy who was finished with football after a scandal, instead he now leaves football on his terms a "hero" (though not to us of course)

Presumably Sam as you can't impose a clause on a non existent prospective employer. Sam would then tell the prospective employer "if you want me enough, you'll sort out Palace."

I suspect that he doesn't appeal to the foreign Chairmen, they can't afford him (based on his wages in the PL) and he has no desire to leave the UK and learn a new culture and a new language in his 60s. I would also say that he was, particularly, suited to the English game.
He has been a relative success everywhere he has been. He could, easily, fall flat on his face if he went abroad.
I do agree though that it would have been interesting had he tried his luck abroad fifteen years ago, but the wealth of the PL and the ease of 'staying at home' means that it is harsh to judge him for not doing so.
