How low can we go?

You'd have to say at present that under RD's ownership you'd have to fancy us to drop out of the football league. If we're this bad in a mediocre league 1 with a 'top six' budget then how much worse will we be when the budget gets cut further.

It wouldn't surprise me if people end up looking back to the 'glory' days of L1 football under KR.

There are still those backing RD!! Wtf!!

I would argue with the word "we" but this Charlton could go as low as non league for sure.

IF there actually is a genuine 'business plan' of a football farm, see tomorrow's premiership stars at Charlton and all that nonsense, then there is a level below which we simply won't attract youngsters of sufficient quality to generate the income.

Therefore, for all the wrong reasons football and fanwise, it might be in the interests of the regime to ensure we don't get relegated any further than we have.

All season people have talked about the "top six budget" comment but has it been established what the "top six" actually referred to?

Was it top six in London? Doubt it - there are five PL teams (Chelski, Arse, Spuds, Wet Spam, Nigels) and then Fulham and QPR would have a bigger budget than us.

    The division? Possibly.

A budget that ranked in the top six among Charlton managers under the interim owner? Bingo. And that's why we're heading to the bass-ment.

Pretty sure it was top six in league one. We probably do have one of the largest budgets due to the ridiculous wages people like Text are on. If it is poorly invested it doesn't matter how big it is

Can't help expect next season to be worse than this if RD's still here. This summer we will again be uncompetitive in the transfer market, still be looking at cheap options, especially since there's not another Gomez or Lookman to sell. KR says he knows who he wants. He'll find that getting them is a different matter, assuming he hasn't been sacked. Loanees and freebies are what Roland will allow.

At least if we end up in non-League football, we can be referred to as Plucky Little Charlton when we get beaten 1-0 at a Championship side in the Cup.

Odds on relegation have halved since last night with most bookies offering 40/1. it was 80/1 after Saturday's game.

Indeed. If we lose at Northampton on Saturday and Swindon beat Chesterfield (Ajose hat trick, no doubt), which is likely, we will be 3 points off relegation. The odds will drop a lot more.

Top six amongst the network clubs maybe.

Given the sides we failed to beat in Feb, and compare them to our games in March (Northampton, Scunthorpe, Walsall, Bradford, Sheff Utd and MK Dons), 40/1 looks very very generous.

Struggling to see where the next win is coming from.

Based on last 10 games, we are currently averaging 0.9 points per game. The average points per game total for the teams 22nd to 16th over the past 10 games is 1.45. I've left out Coventry and Chesterfield as with a 14 point deficit they won't catch us.

Based on current form we will finish the season on 52 points, with 21st place getting 50-51 points. KR was bang on when he said we need 3 more wins.

Only Gillingham, Port Vale, Chesterfield and Coventry picked up less points than us in the last 10 games, but Port Vale have only played 32 games and have 3 games in hand, so could yet get the points they need to survive.

Based on current form, and already of the opinion that it's too late for Chesterfield and Coventry, I believe that 2 of the following 4 will take up the last two relegation places:

Port Vale, Swindon, Gillingham or Charlton.

I think we'll finish in 20th position and survive by the skin of our teeth.

If I were a bookie I wouldn't be offering anything like 40/1 let alone 80/1. Last 7 games has resulted in 3/21 points so what makes them (or us for that matter) think we can arrest that slide? It can only be our name (the old "they're too good to go down") that is keeping us from being shorter, the weight of money on the other contenders and the fact that there are a maximum of two relegation spots left to be decided. Bury, for example, are 2 points behind us (albeit that we have a game in hand but, on current form, that's a defeat) and yet are a tenth of our price at a best priced 7/2.

To put that 40/1 into perspective it is the equivalent of us as layer risking £400 to win a tenner on us staying up. How many of us would seriously do that right now?

After last night's post match outburst by Jimmy, never mind about 'London's Calling' we'll be running out to 'Down, down deeper and down' by the Quo soon :rage:

Fighting off Port vale and Gillingham to avoid dropping into league two. What a time to be alive!
