Yes I say. Very predictable response.

    Yeh, sorry couldn't resist.

How many were there? 14 by any chance, it's a popular portion size in your household.

My mate got burgled in London a few times. One of the times she got home to find her flat door open so she called her upstairs neighbour down to go in and check for her. He went in but came out looking a bit uncomfortable but said the coast was clear. She went in to find the kindly burglar had placed her collection of vibrators all around her flat, on her dinner table, mantelpiece etc.

I can't actually remember now if she moved them before she called the police.

Collection? How many does a girl need?

    A 'double ender' should suffice.

The same could be asked about shoes.
  • I got burgled in Bexleyheath a couple of Friday's back at 7.30 ish. I had also popped to the pub for an hour. Came home and they had crowbarred my front window to my lounge (there is no back access), in full view of the road. Had two dogs in the house both of which would have barked continuously. 2 other houses burgled in the area the same night. A house 50 meters from mine was burgled last Monday and a house 2 along from that on Wednesday. Police response time to my burglary was 90 minutes - number of police seen in the area in last three weeks, 0. Since spoken to the police on the phone and they said they had no resource to regularly patrol and it was down to residents to secure their homes. I have totally replaced my alarm, inside and out side camera's, security lights etc at a cost of close to £2k - but I know that they could return again and again with that crowbar and there is nothing I can do. With the security I have put in place I will now be able to watch them do it from my phone, whilst praying that the police response time improves considerably less than the previous 90 minutes.
  • I'd love them to turn up with you indoors!

    Best of luck to 1905.

It's probably not true of the recent cases people have reported here, but there seems to be something that has gone without analysis since the press "won" their campaign to allow householders to protect themselves and their property - no prizes for working out why. It is an increased trend for burglars to operate in teams of up to about four. I know my limitations and I'd be careful what I wished for.
  • Not sure if it was previously mentioned but you could put some of that anti climbing stuff on the top/edge of your flat roof. It's like a black gooey tar and would make a hell of a mess for any intruders.

  • I'd honestly hang aquisitive thieves like burglars. I've got an armoury at home which is useless if I'm not in and I'm unfortunate enough to get burgled. The law is astonishing though in what you can and can't do to home intruders.

My neighbours dogs keep any miscreants away from our place and with good reason. If one of those things got a strong male human being they could eat the shit of them and I doubt there would be much person left.
  • Wife got home tonight with my 2 pre school aged children to find the house burgled, all draws/cupboards open etc, stuff thrown on the floor. Been sitting waiting for 4 hours now for the police and still no sign. Anyway, hoping for some CL advice please.

    1. Glass in door was smashed to get in, anyone know someone who could replace, obviously needed quite urgently although can wait till tomorrow.

    2. Anyone have advice on alarms, this is the first time someone has successfully burgled our house but had the garage done about 8 years ago and an attempt on the house about 3 years ago.

    3. From what I can tell the only thing stolen is the car key. It is a modern (but unspectacular) car with a computer etc and remote sensor keys. I have moved the car somewhere safe but anyone have advice on what I now do. With young kids it needs to be near the house. Any idea on what replacing locks / resetting computers or whatever it is you do with these types of crimes / keys you need to do and costs? Frustratingly I only have the cR on hire for 3 more months!
  • Re window call your buildings insurer as they are responsible to replace, they should put you in touch with a 24hour emergency service.

Sorry to hear about this mate, hope the family is not too shaken up.

Lad at work has a BMW on hire and had a key stolen, he was quoted £1k by BMW to get a new key and re-code the car. I do have a mate who is a mechanic who knows a key specialist, one man band. If you want his details then drop me a PM.

    Best of luck.
  • Wow, 1K! Mine is a Nissan so hopefully not that bad. Not even my car as it is a work one and does back in April so annoying I will have to fork out.

If that much I will do it via insurance and stump up the hefty excess but may drop you a PM.

Wife is pretty shaken up and sadly my 4 year old saw the mess and broken glass so was crying and hiding behind a sofa last night.

Utter scum bags that do this sort of thing. In a way I feel pity for them as their life must be utterly pathetic to think behaviour like that is acceptable.
  • Grim, sorry to hear that.

all you can hope is that they meet some sort of misery on there way after leaving the property, been burgled a few times and its horrible, cant stand thieves would like to see them publicy flogged if i had my way, or adopt what our saudi arabian cousins do and off with there hands, what area are you in as know an alarm guy thats a 1 man band only started up a couple of years ago so pretty reasonable?.

Sorry to hear this. Although a pain, you can sort out the practical problems fairly easily. However, from past experience I can imagine how your wife is feeling. Also, although easier said than done, perhaps speak to your 4 year old about what has happened and try to answer his/her questions as truthfully as possible and try to be as reassuring as possible. Also, Victim Support website can be helpful:

  • @palarsehater - thanks mate. Beckenham.
  • @cherryorchard - thanks. Yes, he was quite excited about meeting forensics and had his police helmet on this morning looking for footprints in the back garden with a magnifying glass! He is just at an age where shadows began to scare him so this was not needed but little ones bounce back fast.

  • @Athletico Charlton ill ask the bloke if hed travel and inbox you.
  • That's terrible for you Ralph ! Wish you all the best hope they get the scum who did it!

Well let's just hope the thieves have made enough money to buy heroin that they overdose on!
  • Iv had an Alarm fitted post my burgary , at a cost of £650 and got a motion sensor light at the rear of the property. Iv also removed anything from me garden, that could in any way be used to aid a break in. Garden fork, table chairs etc.

Sorry to hear of yours Athletico, I know how it makes you feel, and is upsetting and disturbing. You find yourself hiding things inside your own home. Hope it's not to bad on your family, and may justice, pay back the c@@ts who think this is a way to live a life.
