Solly: 5.5 solid defensively, but only average in bringing the ball out of defence and trying to find a Charlton player. Too many hopeful punts downfield to no one in particular. Solly and Fox have clearly been instructed to play very narrow, but this limits them playing the wingback role and pushing forward to create width in the attacking third. When he did, delivery was disappointing. Fox: 5.5 see Solly. Konsa: 7 better positionally than in the previous 2 games and won important headers, especially towards the end of the game. Still rather impetuous in trying to make clean tackles rather than shepherd the player out of the danger area. Gave away a free kick in injury time doing just this. Pearce: 8 Excellent performance, constantly talking to those around him, cajouling performance out of Konsa, and organising the defence when Walsall were attacking. Captain material when Jackson is not available. Holmes: 7.5 Not as good as against Shrewsbury. Stuggling with his ankle injury, but still a real crowd pleaser with his effort and running with the ball. Always eager to receive the ball off the back four. Foley: 6.5 solid performance, seems to be developing a good understanding with Crofts. Second half not as good, a few misplaced passes. Crofts: 9 MOM outstanding midfield display. Energy, understanding with players around him, calming things down when needed. Some excellent tackles and blocks, winning the ball back on several occasions and also starting off attacks. Jackson: 7 Typical Jackson, no lack of effort and showed some nice touches. With the full backs playing very narrow, he had a lot of work in covering out wide, which he did well. Struggled later on, probably due to his reported tight hamstring. Magennis: 9 Leaves everything on the pitch! Outstanding effort. Good target man, wins headers and links up play well. Fantastic run for our secong goal, left the defender in his wake. Even struggling with cramp late on he continued to put it all in. Early season contender for player of the year along with Holmes. Ajose: 7.5 seems a bit harsh having scored 2 goals. He is growing into the team and learning about his teammates. Needs to offer more in build up play. Magennis: 8 Battled all day, big and strong target man, a 'Charlton type' player, not sure he'll score many but will be an integral part of the team, especially away from home. Ajose: 8 Starting to find his feet. Not sure the team are fully on his wave length....... yet Lookman: 6.5 flatters to deceive. Should have played up front when Ajose went off, Walsall were tired and through the middle he may of hurt them.
