  • If anyone is struggling with fishing or wants to get in to it give a me a shout. I am a qualified fishing coach. I've been taught by some of the best in the game ( Andy May. Rob Wotton. Jamie Hughes.Des Shipp.) I fish matches all over the UK . But to me there know better in enjoyment than someone catching fish for the first time. Next Tuesday August 2nd Iam taking 20 kids fishing for there first time. It would also be nice to organise a match for all of us on here .just a fun day out .beer food and fish. I live in Hereford near the mighty river wye if anyone up this way. Also I am prepared to travel to help someone out to get into fishing. Tight lines Tony

I was thinking that there might be the possibility of a fun match for Lifers in aid of The Upbeats? Defo think it would have to be down sarf tho :)

My Dad, Uncle and cousin are all non-lifers but are all Charlton and anglers who I am sure would be up for it.

  • Jack Hargreaves " out of town" great program

Old school fishing programme, loved it. 4.30 sunday afternoons? ;)
  • Off to Bury Hill tomorrow morning. Has anyone fished Milton lake before, any tips?
  • Thames at Staines for me tomorrow. Can't wait!

Let us know how you got on.

Had a shocker, just one crucian.

Way too hot and nothing at all coming out of the lake. Still, did manage an hours kip after asking the missus to keep an eye on the float for a bit.

Just packed up and now having a pint in the local. Fished maggot feeder down the middle. Lots of Dace plus a few Perch and Roach. Not a bad day.

    Tried everything to no avail.

Apart from the bloke next to me having one Tench, nothing else at all came out. He was a regular and said he'd not seen it like that.

There were a few carp coming out on the lake behind though.

  • Took my 7 year old granddaughter to Marsh Farm at Milford yesterday evening. Great for introducing novices, Hill Pond impossible not to catch ( if you want to blank you can try for the specimen Crucians in the main lake). Constant small roach and tench within a rods length and the odd mini monster.

She was shrieking with the excitement of catching fish, squashing maggots, spreading the contents of my tackle box over tha bank and finding new ways to tangle her line, but catch em young and the're hooked forever.

    That's great to hear.

My niece has just turned six, can't wait to take her out for a few hours with my dad. If she doesn't like it then fair enough but it's worth a try and makes a change from the iPad.

  • I'm thinking of trying Claygate near Marden one day soon. Anyone have any experience of this fishery for general course (not specialist carp) fishing?

  • Fish Claygate quite regularly. Lake Sophie, guaranteed to catch. Carp to about ten pounds and lots of silver fish. Normally fish a pellet waggler about two foot deep
  • so a week ago reports in the press of sharks off the south coast close in chasing the mackerel
last friday 5 dolphins seen out side Folkestone harbour.
My nephew went to hythe beach on Sunday caught naff all said it was to windy.
today i went to local tackel store and asked the guy if the mackerel were back---his words "on saturday they were actually in the harbour and zillions outside , but the wind on Sunday clouded the water"

its high tide at 2.30 do i give it ago --no wind to day ?

Currently being wheeled along Whitechapel high street today, wouldn't fancy eating it after it's been siting in the sun instead of ice.

Must've been there a while, it's got a parking ticket.

    update
did go down off the rocks. Not windy but the tide wow--spray was 4 foot high. Had an hour in a few places but the water was so coloured . On way back saw one other guy fishing---he had given up with feathers but was also struggling as a 5 OZ gripper lead wasnt holding bottom !! wasnt windy either.

Yesterday i stood on the cliffs--can see almost from Dover to Folkstone harbour. there was huge mega shadows on the water--very dark blue black which moved against the tide--right to let--left to right--had to be mackerel. Millions and millons---300 yards long or more and the same deep. They disappeared but were back in mins in smaller numbers and right close to shore. Feet out right along the rocks , but not against the sea wall. Watched them for 30mins. Media are saying biggest shoals of mackerel in 30 plus years.
    Today windy and showers nothing.
Will have another few goes in the next week or so.

I always blamed the proz' for the smell round there
  • I've recently bought a couple of Shimano Technium FD reels and I'm really impressed with them. Anyone else got these?

I'm a bit behind on recent tech. All my reels are Shimano though. I must have had my old Aero GT's for about fifteen years now and have an Exage 2500 for float fishing. Absolutely wonderful reels.

What do you use the FD for, is it feeder fishing?

I have a 3000FD for float fishing and light ledgering and a C5000FD for distance feeder fishing. These reels have Aerowrap just like your old GTs, plus lots of other more recent Shimano tech.
  • Getting into pike season, anyone recommend some good waters to fish for some?
  • Does anyone trap crayfish?
  • Getting into pike season, anyone recommend some good waters to fish for some?

I accidently caught a 3lb pike in the Medway at Teston a few months ago. It attacked a bleak that I was reeling in and somehow my size 18 hook took hold on the outside of the pike's jaw. The bleak was shot to pieces though! Point is, if I can catch one by accident, then the prospects must be good for someone targeting them.

I've done it (and I will add legally). It's very heavily licensed as the native is nearly white-clawed has been all but wiped out but signal crayfish. You need recommendations and all sorts to get the license. Lots of traps are also illegal and within the last couple of years a mother otter and her kits drowned in one near Chelmsford.

If you have the licence and know what you are doing then by all means go for it. I think they're fascinating little creatures. If not and you want to try it contact your local wildlife trust and see if they have any schemes going on in your local rivers.

I was having a look online yesterday. Application looked fairly straightforward. Also there was no mention of referrals for future licences.
  • Pulled these out of our lake the other day. All gone back in, ready for the summer.

Going piking on Monday, photos to folla
