A political writer in his young days, a man who knew poverty, and national service, who campaigned against Nuclear arms, and who was amongst a group of 'working class' writers of his era.
Not my favourite playwrite, but one who wrote in a documentary style with thoughtful ideas expressed.
'Chips with everything' was a text allowed in schools, that schoolteachers who arrived in the job from the National Service generation were keen for students to read.
I think Wesker was a playwrite of his time, but not for all time like Shakespeare or Checkov. I also think that had he been born a little later he would have been a prolific writer for TV, especially in the 'play for today' slots on the BBC.
