Primary School/Secondary School songs

Was thinking earlier about songs we sung at primary school or secondary .

Asked a few people at work and they never did, so I was wondering who here used to sing songs in assembly and can you remember any.

To start off I clearly remember 2:
Football Crazy
Lily the pink

I partly remember one about flowers and daffodils

  • Apart from the usual hymns and carols I do remember singing Frere Jacques, The Big Rock Candy Mountain and The Happy Wanderer at primary school. The only song I ever recall singing at secondary school was Rudolph The Rednose Raindeer!
  • The gypsy rover, where have all the flowers gone, have you seen the old man in the streets of London, blowing in the wind. Eclectic.

I think in secondary school we only ever sang "lord Jesus Christ" and that got knocked on the head when the pianist graduated
  • A man's occupation
    is to stick his cockeration
    up a lady's ventilation
    to increase the popuplation
    of the younger generation.
  • The ink is black
    The page is white.
Together we learn to read and write

Yup. This one and "My Grandfather's Clock"
  • Kumbaya my lord was one we'd always sing
  • Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well

    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    I mustn’t forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And a winter’s moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.

    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    I mustn’t forget.

    Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.

    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    I mustn’t forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain’s been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that’s been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    I mustn’t forget.
  • Knockhall school is marching forward......
  • We all want some figgy pudding.
  • All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Can't remember proper name but it was about a mouse who lived in a windmill in Old Amsterdam.

    Bananas in Pyjamas.

  • Usual suspects - Kumbaya, All Things Bright and Beautiful, Morning has Broken, Lord of the Dance (which when I first heard it was really puzzled by the lyric "I am the Lord of the dark settee..")
Then in the playground we'd revert to Terry Jacks "We had joy we had fun..."
  • Food, glorious food
  • This is one I was particularly good at when I was studying at Fossedene Primary, specially when we done it in a round when some started before the others, made the hairs stand up on the back of you neck. I think the fold away apparatus in the hall helped with the acoustics mind.

    Under my breath!

Sorry I thought it was about all childhood songs.

One popular one was 'Keep your sunny side up'.
  • Going back further to when I studied at Thorntree Infants School

    Wheels on The Bus
    Ba Ba Black Sheep
    Ring a Ring a Roses

  • She'll be coming Rd the mountain
  • One two three
    Mother caught a flea
Put it in the tea pot
And made a cup of tea
    The flea jumped out
    Mother gave a shout
    In came father
    With his shirt hanging out
  • If I had a hammer
  • Ladybird ladybird fly away home
Your house is on fire your children are gone
One is upstairs making the beds

  • My friend Rob had a ten foot knob and he showed it to the girl next door
She thought it was a snake so she hit it with a rake
    And now it's only 5 foot 4

Jokes aside, I'd be happy with the 5 foot 4 I was left with
