General Election 2015 official thread

It's that time.

Who are you voting for, why, your constituency etc. And try to be civil!


Me - TUSC or Green. Woolwich.

I am a socialist and will vote for whichever party respects that and animal rights.
If I lived in a constituency where the outcome was close I would vote for the most likely candidate to keep the Tories or UKIP out,

    I will be voting Labour in the North East Bedfordshire constituency.

    Currently held by MP Alistair Burt ( Conservative ) and fully expected to keep his seat easily.

    Still undecided. Chelmsford is simon burns Tory and will remain so regardless... Meant to be a good mp, but I don't like the Tories much. Or labour. I normally vote lib dem or green, but they are both wasted votes and also low on credibility. Sod it, I'll decide on the day and go for who I most agree with.

    Undecided still. Student (studying politics and portuguese) , study in Leeds but voting for my Eltham constituency. Clive Efford local MP and shadow minister for sport, been here since 97'. Find it so hard to identify with any party, don't agree with majority of tory policies, however feel things haven't gotten worse since they came in. Identify with Labour a lot more, however think Milliband is a complete clown as is Balls, I just worry they will cock the economy etc up again. Wanted to vote green until hearing Bennet's interview on LBC.... really no idea. Guess it will have to be UKIP...(joke).. but seriouslyly struggling to come to a decision and not long now!

    He, Efford that is, is Millwall, if that helps.

    Will never vote for the two main parties or Lib Dems ever again due to the fact that out of over 600 MP's fiddling their expenses, only a handful were dealt with.
    If I had committed fraud, I would have been interviewed, charged and banged up not been allowed to write a cheque for the amount involved.

    The greens can do one too. Mental policies, mental leader.

    OK I have been undecided for some time. The recent negative campaigning by Cameron (making it personal) has convinced me that I will vote for whoever has the best chance of beating his party. I had high hopes that he would stop the negative campaigning from the Conservatives (which a number of his own party find embarrassing)

    Our electoral system means that only 15-20% of the votes cast make a difference. I for example live in a true blue Tory constituency in Cheshire - MP is Stephen O'Brien who had a 13k majority (52% share) last time with Labour third. Hardly a marginal!

    My Labour vote is therefore in reality worthless - but I will still cast it.

    No idea who to vote for at present as I'm unsure if any of them deserve my vote - however seeing as a fair number of folk died in two world wars to ensure we have a democracy to partipate in, someone will get my vote.

    I don't see any way us losing WW1 would have nullified our chance to vote. Of course WW2 is a totally different matter.

    I'll be voting Labour in Lewisham West. I've always Labour or Communist in a General Election and see no reason to change, although a credible party that would dump Trident might tempt me. The Tories' constant hammering of the weak and poor makes me sick, and their market-driven policy on the NHS needs repealing as soon as possible.

    BUT voting for Labour almost certainly lets in the fruitcakes from the SNP, giving them an unfairly disproportionate and potentially disastrous influence on the next parliament. That really is a nasty, vindictive concept - and one which Jim Murphy says he wants to use the proceeds from to fund more public sector jobs in Scotland.

    Now, the Conservatives: would probably be better custodians of the economy but will be forced to offer a referendum on getting out of the EU. Individual taxation good/environment bad. In addition I would dearly love to punish them for the dumb-arse badger cull and for the Dartford Crossing tolls (which Philip Hammond when a shadow transport minister said he's look at abolishing) but which went up.

    We've just had our first election communication - surprisingly it was from Labour which was a very poor 3rd with 11% of the vote last time out in Chelmsford. It was, depressingly, full of misleading (is the polite way of putting it) claims and unrealistic, unfunded aspirations. It was a very poor document, badly printed and with a photo of a poster that was so badly out of focus you couldn't read the slogan! If they can't even get that sort of thing right - well....

    Then there's UKIP but I don't want to leave the EU, so they're a non-starter.

    So, as things stand, I'm probably not voting but it's not a protest vote - it's that nobody is standing on a manifesto I can get 100%, or even 75% behind. I feel disenfranchised because there is no one for me to vote for.

    That Chelmsford labour leaflet screamed "we aren't trying very hard round here"

    Must be honest, I have always voted as I see the right to vote as important. But I'm so indifferent to it all now and really don't care. I find it staggering / baffling / amusing how other people are so blinkered with their political viewpoints (like The Hague thread for example)

    If I'm honest, I genuinely don't think my life would be impacted in any way whatsoever whether we had a Labour or Conservative government over the next five years. Of course they have differing idealisms, but the reality of decision making when in government means virtually nothing would be different imo.
    I understand that point of view and at certain times in all our lives other things than who's running the country clearly take priority. Like family, work, running your own excellent internet forum :-) ...but it does matter.

    For example the Tories are currently rumoured to be considering limiting child benefit to the first two children and applying tax to disability benefits. Now neither of those policies effect me directly, (in fact I am in favour of the first policy actually), but they will have a massive impact on some households.

    To me that's just two very small examples of the policy differences between the parties having an effect at a day-to-day level and that's why I would encourage everyone to use their vote.

    It's a really tough election to call to be honest. The question is, do you want tough cuts with someone wearing a red tie leading the country, or someone with a blue tie?

    Late 40s, never voted! I refuse to honour the weasel like politician who never gives a straight answer to a really pertinent question, who behaves like a child when in the Commons and who invariably contradicts his/her manifesto 'wish list' once they've conned the voting public and been elected.

    Blimey, nearly forgot - the sleaze also!

    If I had the ability to vote for TUSC I would. But unfortunately we don't have one in Crawley so I will be voting for Labours Chris Oklade.
