I was born in Old Woolwich Road, just by that lovely old power station, the noise, the smell, brushing the soot from your hair and clothes after playing in the back yard.

Yes: the article says it is firmly stuck in a 1970s timewarp: a rare Greenwich pub with a dartboard since the Prince Albert in Royal Hill was revamped. A couple of Friday nights ago I took an old pal on a crawl: Pelton, Cutty Sark, Yacht, Trafalgar Tavern, Spanish Galleon. Good ale in them all.
Incidentally, on the Sunday afternoon we went to the George, London's only surviving galleried coaching inn built in the 17th century, in a courtyard off Borough High Street. Price of one pint of Greene King IPA (3.6 per cent), one bottle of cider (5 per cent), and one bag of crisps? Eleven pounds and 15 pence, sir. Whaaaat?
As a resident of East Greenwich, and someone who can proudly call The Pelton his local (although definitely not the complainy kind, honest), I think you've pretty much nailed the area there. Well done sir. You're going right in my bookmarks.
Fantastic. I've been living in East Greenwich (Maze Hill) for four years now, and this piece sums up the character of it perfectly. I think I'll pop down the Pelton tomorrow night as it goes!
Vincenzo, as a former Herne Hillian, I absolutely love the article on The Half Moon and the other pubs/eateries. It's 100% spot on.
It's just occurred to me how many people I know in Herne Hill that have shared this on their FB timelines in the previous months and I didn't realise it was your site.

Absolutely gutted about the Half Moon, it had everything that pub. A good music venue at the back, a proper random mix of people and amazing pizzas!. A sad loss to the community, was easily the best pub for miles around.

Interesting read that. I heard from a local that whoever owns it now (could still be Tesco) is rich enough to sit on it until the council's determination to keep it a pub wavers. In other words, they don't give a damn about the area and its people.
