  • So basically Arsenal won 1 trophy in 9 year, get to be top seeds again,

    would love them to get
    PSG
    Leverkusen
    Roma
  • Based on UEFA Coefficient for last 5 years isn't it?
  • Based on UEFA Coefficient for last 5 years isn't it?

So one trophy and finishing 4th in the premier league is good enough for them to be above PSG, Dortmund, Juventus Man City,
  • Barca, Dortmund, Liverpool, Roma would be a great group
    Or
    Bayern, Man City, Ajax, Monaco

Benfica, Basel, Olympiakos, APOEL would be awful though
  • Watching the final game Ludogorets had their keeper sent off 1 minute before pens and no subs left,

The trophy they won has no effect on champions league.

It is purely based on last five seasons in Europe and Man City have not done as well.

surely Dortmund should be ahead of them then and Juventus

Ludogorets won, 2 penalty saves from him and he scored, he went mental afterwards
  • Cosmin Moti becomes a Ludogorets legend as the DEFENDER stops 2 penalties in shootout and takes them into FIRST ever CL! Beating Steaua Bucuresti

Surely the Champions of each country should be pot 1, the teams that finished 2nd in pot 2, etc. Farcical closed shop system designed by the big clubs to protect the big clubs. Mickey Mouse tournament, can't believe they have the gall to continue calling it the Champions League.

With those guidelines (and using UEFA country co-efficients), the pots would be as such:

    Pot 1
    Atletico Madrid
    Manchester City
    Bayern Munich
    Juventus
    Benfica
    PSG
    Shahktar Donetsk
    CSKA Moscow
    Pot 2
    Ajax
    Galatasaray
    Anderlecht
    Olympiacos
    Basel
    APOEL
    BATE Borisov
    Ludogorets Razgrad
    Pot 3
    Maribor
    Malmo FF
    Barcelona
    Liverpool
    Borussia Dortmund
    Roma
    Sporting CP
    Monaco
    Pot 4
    FC Zenit
    Real Madrid
    Chelsea
    FC Schalke 04
    FC Porto
    Athletic Bilbao
    Arsenal
    Bayer Leverkusen

To add to this, Moti is a Romanian international who was tonight playing against the Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest... his former club were Dinamo Bucharest, Steaua's arch rivals.

This is why sport is great.

I haven't researched this but I reckon Arsenal have done better than both of those teams over the last five years but I guess if they haven't and Arsenal are still seeded ahead of them then it's a conspiracy !

Erm... this is UEFA we're talking about.. your idea makes far too much sense to be used I'm afraid

UEFA's newest idea (which makes it completely simple) is...

Pot 1 team gets draw out first followed by Pot 3... Pot 2 and then Pot 4
If Pot 1 Team has an "A" in their name then Pot 3 team needs to be drawn again but if Pot 1 Team has a "B" in their name then the Pot 3 Team then has to spin around in circles.
Teams in Pot 2 and Pot 4 may also need to be re-drawn but that is dependant on whether the teams drawn against each other have shaken hands

    GROUP A
    Atletico Madrid
    Juventus
    Olympiacos
    Malmo FF

    GROUP B
    Real Madrid
    Basel
    Liverpool
    Ludogorets Razgrad

    GROUP C
    Benfica
    Zenit
    Bayer Leverkusen
    AS Monaco

    GROUP D
    Arsenal
    Dortmund
    Galatasaray
    Anderlecht

    GROUP E
    Bayern Munich
    Man City
    CSKA Moscow
    AS Roma

    GROUP F
    Barcelona
    PSG
    Ajax
    APOEL

    GROUP G
    Chelsea
    Schalke 04
    Sporting CP
    NK Maribor

    GROUP H
    Porto
    Shakhtar
    Athletic Bilbao
    BATE Borisov

    draw complete.
  • Liverpool and Chelsea through
    Man City out
Arsenal depends how they do against Galatasaray
  • Man City get Roma and Bayern so the toughest of the English sides but probably still go through.

Group C and H look wide open.
  • Honestly don't understand the logic in both of Portuguese teams being in pot 1.

I know it's all done via "co-efficient" and imagine it's something to do with them being previous winners or finalists/semi-finalists 40 odd years ago but it's just so stupid.

  • Man City always get drawn a stinker...and once again, chelsea, basically already through...

  • Cristiano Ronaldo named European player of the season 2013/14 - beats Robben and Neuer to prize.

That doesn't take World Cup into account.
  • Just looking even if City manage to get through there last 16 game will be against probably Barcelona or PSG

    More options than that right?

    It works in pots again.

I just assumed it was how it used to be, winner of group A plays runner up of group B and so on
  • edited August 2014
All group winners are put into a pot and drawn against all group runners up. Only rule is that two clubs from the same country can't play each other (ensuring that even more of the big clubs get through)...

I am just imagining that it used to be that way, just had a look at the last few years and there has always been a draw for the last 16
  • Couldn't be bothered to start a new thread & this looked most appropriate. If you haven't had a chance to see them, try and get a look at Porto's goals tonight. Some cracking strikes. 4-0 up at the moment v Basel, who look awful. Porto have absolutely ripped them apart.
  • Schalke just beat Madrid 4-3, lost 5-4 on aggregate. Real were hanging on for the last 10 mins with the crowd booing.
    Amazing match.
  • Joke decisions.
2 red cards for away teams.
Thought oscar was going to be sent off, but sent zlatan off.
  • Hate the way all the Chelsea outfield players immediately surrounded the ref, never a red card
