Going back to this nonsense someone above said about him being a "shit captain"....

Giving someone an armband for 90 minutes makes next to little difference in the modern game where about 4-5 different languages are spoken in our matchday squad. It has become less about shouting and ordering at players. That 'stiff upper lip' mentality that the likes of Roy Keane, Vinnie Jones exemplified simply doesn't count for a lot these days when it comes to leadership IMO.

Good captains in 2015 are those who perform week in and week out, work hard in training and are disciplined. Just because Solly has the armband doesn't mean the likes of Diarra or Henderson can't act like captains in their own right.

In the modern game, 'captain' is simply a title given to someone who has earned a higher level of respect in the club. Hence why Jackson and Solly are our leaders. It might be given to shouters and 'hardmen' in Sunday League still, but not in the current professional game where results are largely down to ability and discipline.

Except for a couple of things. The referees want the captain to be the one who talks to them about contentious decisions, and it's surely the captain's responsibility to stop his players from getting involved in a brawl.

And if you'be just been kicked up in the air, and the physio is on with the freeze spray andmagic sponge, it's nice if the captain comes over to make sure you're OK...

If he was 6ft + and had no fitness issues, theres is no doubt in my mind he would be playing a good standard of prem football.

So in a way, he's dodgy knees and lack of height work in our favour

    Agree with the dodgy knees,
but the jokes over about the Height.

    Leighton Baines H 1.70m W74 Kg

    Chris Solly H. 1.73m W71 kg

Last season when in Bartrams i heard a guy who told me he could only get to
half a dozen games a season, that Solly has had a great career considering he is so small ?
The penny then dropped that some people really believe the John Terry Song ?

I'm not including you in this J Block, but it seems to have become an Urban Myth.

There's a lot of short players in the prem.

    Alexis Sanchez
    Santi Cazorla
    Joe Allen

    to name 3 under 5ft 6!

Solly's problem is that though he is tenacious and full of energy, he isn't particularly skilful or fast for a RB. Oh and he has dodgy knees.

Here's some other midgets for you all:

No matter who your captain is, the referees will make their own decisions. The frequency of our players getting in brawls is very low, it rarely happens in the modern game.

Those points you raise are secondary to the priorities - of which include being a consistently good performer who can be relied on in a footballing sense. The morale and 'checking on each other' aspect is something that all players could and should do whether they have an armband on or not.
