Woolworth's?

I know there are wilko's etc but it was always good for either a last minute xmas present or random things.

  • Fly out to Germany to go in one then ;-)
  • Someones bound to say they miss the pick and mix....
  • heard a horrible story from a lady that used to work in the pick and mix area at woolworths back in the day - when food hygeine wasn't such a hot topic - and each section had maggots at the bottom - kind of ruined my childhood image of the wonder of pick and mix
  • Can't say it's kept me up at night

in Erith you could shop in one aisle for your kids' school uniform before moving on to the next aisle where there'd be Dulux matt emulsion. i miis those days... and the pick n mix.
  • When I was about 11 I nicked a set of allen keys from Woolies. Not sure why, I didn't even know what they were for. Couple of days later I went back and had it away with a Louis Armstrong cassette.
I never really thought my shoplifting through.
  • Used to make a decent living out of nicking stuff from Woolies when I was at school and flogging it to the other kids. Then I got caught and have never nicked anything since!
  • Yup, got one just round the corner from me. It's just a 'Woolworth' here though. Pretty much a 90's throwback when I go in, just expect them to be selling tape singles.

If I remember correctly in the Eltham branch, they used to make it so easy, especially round the sweetie area. (or so I've been told :-))

    PIck n nick.. :-)

  • Come to think of it, it was easy to stuff your pockets with sweets!
  • I once earned £26K in one day by supplying them with top end beauty products that the manufacturers refused to sell them. My house was only worth about £40K at the time, a wonderful memory.
  • The one in Ashford is now a Poundland, so is pretty much identical.
  • Its Clintons I wake up crying about.
  • I thought this was going to be a thread about Rick and Wendy.
  • Yeah but you could sort of see why they went bust. They seemed to specialise in spending a lot of money stocking pot plants and then not bothering to water them so they died. Apart from the losses going straight to the bottom line, all the dead plants made the place look very sad indeed.
I've got over it now, especially since Poundland started to stock lametta.
  • looks like it

and not forgetting we all learned our shoplifting skills on a saturday when we were kids..................

  • why did they put the pick n mix right next to the door? No wonder they went under.

To be honest, my wages were made from the top 40 singles charts back in the 80's. I probably sold more singles in a week than Woolworths did............
  • Bit of a random shop and Wilkos do it better... but I miss it and wish it was still in our high streets rather than pikey poundland and 99p stores

Don't miss it in the slightest. I was very sad for the employees when it went, but as shopping goes my experiences were always bad, so I wasn't surprised.

Is there any thing that Woolies had that you can't get on Amazon?
