Powell's had a good long look at him so hopefully it means he's convinced he's a worthwhile signing although I'm a little worried that we were just keeping him on hold until the very last minute in the hope something better came along, which it clearly it hasn't.
Well he got very good reviews from his spell at Southend but that was a while ago, and like Yann has been off the radar in foreign lower leagues since then.
Trialled at a few clubs this summer, including Huddersfield, who didn't follow up, and rumoured to have a dodgy knee a la BWP, which struggled through a medical apparently.
If Sir Chris rates him, a decent chance he is going to be a good signing for us based on past experience. they don't all come off but a good percentage do.
We are broke, shame it's not a first team player we're signing but hopefully he can push on.
Could be a Yann could be a Leon.
Let's give the guy a chance.
Spot on. The blokes got a good pedigree on paper but for whatever reason hasn't broken through to be a first team regular at Spurs or in Spain. Could be because, particularily as a central defender, you have to be exceptional to break into a Prem' side.
Could turn out to be a good one, could go the other way but for crivens sake let's give the guy a chance.
I think I have questioned 'who' about 15 times over the last 13 months? However was aware that Dervite was part of Spurs' squad a few years back and as with may other recent cases, Kermit, Pritchard, Hollands, Wiggins, Hamer etc am confident that SCP sees enough in him to know he'll provide decent competition to what we have got.
The 1 year contracts seem to be Powell 'gambling' on players. Not saying that its wrong but it doesn't fill me with confidence. To be fair, it worked with Pritchard and his contract has been extended, but giving a one year contract to Dervite and Kerkar leads me to believe that they are gambles.
gambles maybe but giving players 1 year contracts means they really have something to play for and cannot rest on the laurels of a 2 or 3 year contract.

I agree, I do think it is a good idea as it means that we don't have to commit to a player for a long time if they don't live up to their expectation. I just hope that these two pay off like the Pritch gamble.
Anyone who has seen Kerkar play should know that it is more than just a 'gamble', there's quality there but there's no guarantee they will be consistently in the first team.
Why give a three year contract to someone you know is only a back-up for now?
Yep let's give him a chance. Seems like he has a decent pedigree so I am optomistic that Charlton can revive that early potential. Have a good feeling about this one.
Being the product of the French Academy system means he will be technically excellent.
He's a tall lad and I think provided his knee issues can be managed, he is going to be a real coup.
SCP looks for a number of things in players, technical excellence, physical strength and energy, and something to prove. He fits the bill in every case.
Decent pedigree, plenty of potential left to fill, an air of unfinished business/a point to prove. Seems classic CP signing to me, heck even taking the chance on an injury seems to be a Powell tactic (didn't Kermo have something of a spotty record fitness wise?)
Didn't the club 'brag' last season that their physio and medical departments can work wonders. They seemed to have 'managed' many players through the season, including BWP's knees. So with this new chap, perhaps it's time to go to work on him. Anyway, if he makes the 1st team squad, who will buy a big enough team shirt to have his full name on the back. Also, how much does it cost now - £1 a letter?
People were really disappointed with Yann signing and Smith signing on the last day, people saying we were scraping the barrel and don't have any money. I'm stocking up on the humble pie i think you guys will eat ;)
Hope he turns out to be another Yann. Not holding my breath. Didn't see anything particularly special in him at Bromley. Infact he was consistently beaten in the air.
Though he did quite well at Bromley, actually won a lot of headers and looked to have good distribution. Difficult to add to assessment from cameo at Gillingham..
I think he'll be decent but it's hard to see how he'll make an impact in a year. With Cort and Morrison the likely starters, and Taylor on the bench, it's going to take an injury for him to even be named as a sub IMO.
Good to have him though. Another clever move by Powell.
Certainly proves that there is no money left in the club.
How does it prove anything? We signed players on free transfer as well. Not concerned by the lack of signings at all as we brought in a squad last summer that will lead this club over the next few years.
I also wouldn't rule out him finishing the season as first choice alongside Morrison.
Nothing against the player but yet another example of our non-existant clout in the transfer market with this dodgy, skint mob in charge...
...God help us.
Bore off - if it were really as bad as you seem to think then why didn't most of our first team ask for a transfer this summer
We've signed a former French youth international who was absolutely adored by his previous club (Southend) who is by all accounts technically very good, very good with the ball at his feet and very strong. It's only a year so whats the harm?
Agree with this, Didnt win very many headers against their centre forward and also seemed to pass the ball straight back to Crawley on a good number of occasions, however this was just one game and the reports on him from the other pre season games seem quite promising so will give him the benefit of the doubt, Welcome Dorian.

If he makes an impact by Christmas he'll be offered an extension and he will not have to be holding down a first team place for that. Cort was here on loan and was signed permanently before he ousted Taylor

Who were the last two players who we signed from Southend and were absolutely quality and both involved in their player of the year before they came on our books......?
I agree he was very average/below average at Crawley... but SCP has seen him every day for the last few weeks and decided he's good enough - until I see otherwise in a competitive match I'll go with Powell's judgement over mine.
We may be skint and not able to buy added quality but at the same time I can't see Chris Powell signing utter cack just for the sake of making a signing - so in SCP I trust.

Sounds a squad filling gamble, hope it pays off.
Clearly someone once good enough for the French U21s and for Spurs to pick up.
The knee injury seems to have set him back and that could to be 1. the reason he was available 2. The reason he has only got a one year contract.
As others have said Yann surprised a lot of people so let's give the guy a chance.

It does seem that we are on SCP's 'C' list of possible signings.

Clearly signed to make up the numbers. If we are looking for a 4th choice CB Mambo can fill that roll, so don't understand the additional wages.

It would certainly help produce a passing game, building from the back.
Watch this space ! He will be superb

Dorian Dervite-Vaussoue has had a change of heart about the number 19 it seems, he will now wear the number 44 shirt instead (JS) #cafc
northstandsteve - "looked very poor v crawley"
Thats why I love this board.
