  • I saw Graeme Smith outside their team hotel this morning signing autographs, before boarding the team bus (the hotel is next to work)

I said to him "make sure you get out before you reach 20, e.g. by driving at a wide one, and there'll be a £5 and a signed photo of Danny Hollands for you".

  • 49-2

    Petersen c Prior B Finn 22
  • 50-3

    Amla B Finn 13
  • two massive wickets, important match for Finn too. Pleasing.
  • great bowling by finn. clean through bat and leg knocking top of stumps.
Looking good. little rain in the air though, should be ok.
  • Kallis out caught behind on review.
    Dreadful decision
  • 54-4

Kallis C Prior B Finn 3 (After review & the decision looked incorrect :-)
  • Still happy about it though. :-)

Great start lads. Saffers have had a lot of luck in this series so far, about time it turned in our favour. Well done Finn.
  • looking forward to going tomorrow!
Little shower at paddington just now, so did they take early lunch? I can see the roof of Lords from my work window!
  • No still playing.
  • still playing. no rain at the moment.
  • I'm always happy to see Kallis getting out. Excellent player and all that, but he's always been willing to claim catches when they've clearly been grounded and he's failed to walk when he knows he's hit the ball. He deserves the odd bad decision against him.
  • still on now? it's pi$$ing down again!!
  • 65-4 at lunch
  • Started to rain with a ball to go, but they bowled it & went to lunch.

    65-4.

Could not agree more, how much luck has the opener Petersen had? His 180 in the last Test was so lucky it was outrageous, he must have played and missed 20 odd times.

About time England had some luck go their way - the look on Kallis' face was priceless!

how can anyone dislike cricket when you read sentence like that and it makes sense

Lol dont be a hater Gary the game is the don, any sport which stops for lunch and tea has got to be the bees knees!
  • I hope that rain delays a bit of play as I haven't seen England attack for ages. Last time was in oz. we only ever end up seeing batting and thats not as much fun.

Yeah Suz you had a really unlucky run watching England cricket aint ya!!! Hope it all works out for you ;-)
  • haha, I did think that when I was sulking over olympic tickets. It's not like I haven't seen other amazing things - I've been very lucky!
(couldn't go to cafc parachute day though!)
  • I’ll be hoping it goes to the fifth day. That’s how I’ve seen most cricket matches in the last couple of years.
  • There are single tickets available for all days. £90 online or turn up & take a chance there may be some cheaper ones left.

Just bought one for tomorrow & going Sunday as well.
  • still a bit expensive for me. rather try and get in for £15/£20 maybe a tenner on some occasions. espicially as i know i'll be drinking a fair bit plus travel, i got to keep the ticket price cheap.
most fifth days have been pretty good, have been ending around 3, 4 maybe, then off to the pub.
  • 105-5

    de Villiers c Cook B Anderson 27
  • gone for a cup of Tea and some shortbread biscuits.

    151/5 after 54 ovs.

    Duminy - 26
    Rudolph - 41

great interview with yohan blake there
  • Swann bowled Rudolph, 177-6 at the moment, be good to wrap them up for 250 maximum.
  • Agree cafcfan1990 - SA bat all the way down, but 250... even with a couple of rookie batsmen and no figjam we should be capable of putting on a lead. Note choice of wording - I've been watching England too long!

    i missed that.
could you understand what he was saying? what with his accent and quick talking.
  • Mike Member
yeah he was easy to understand slowed it right down.

On another note, Graham Onions has got 9-67 today and ran the 10th out for durham
  • I really do not understand why the ECB do not pick batsmen who have been scoring loads of runs in the county championship. The last time they did was with Trott and he is arguably our best bat. I think they should have picked Nick Compton of Somerset above Bairstow who has not coped well on the international stage.

The same reason Mark Ramprakash never did himself justice on the international stage. For the most part its a mental thing, he has to keep on performing (have 2-3 good seasons) before the ECB will take a chance on him
  • 262-7 close of play. I was hoping we'd shoot them out for 250 the way we started. However, it looks a good batting wicket & they should have scored at least 400 (still might).

If we can get them out for close to 300 and score 400 ourselves we'll obviously be in a good position.

However, with 2 rookie batsmen I'm not confident, but am hopeful, we'll do that.
  • early close? thought it went on till half seven.
  • They went off a couple of overs early at 18.30, due to bad light.
The light was poor & then one of the floodlights (which had been on for a few overs) went out.
They stayed on until Finn hit Philander (46no) with a bouncer.
Steyn was about 23no (nearly all streaky).

I'm going tomorrow, so I'll leave the updates to you guys.
  • Just feel the England batsmen are a bit cosy and the fact they only play four bowlers makes me wonder how much confidence there really is the batting order.People are edgy and they are only 262-7.
Also wondering why Broad is still in the team he is looking a bit off colour, that attack doesnt need to carry anyone with the likes of Bresnan and Onions not in the starting XI.
  • Is that the first time a cricket game has been called off due to a floodlight failure, and were there any suspicious betting patterns beforehand?!?
  • Feel Ramprakash was a touch unlucky, every time he got a go it seemed to be against a terrifying West Indies pace attack with their tails up when some of the England order got hamstring twinges !!
  • England 39-2

70 needed to avoid the follow on!
  • Oh dear could be the wheels off the wagon now!
  • Make that 39-3!
  • Hope Taylor makes big runs though, shut that fool Peiterson up!!
  • Not going well at all, be good if the youngsters can grab a few headlines
  • 55-4
  • oh dear, maybe he is a big mouth kp but his far better than anyone else
  • CHGCHG Member
This is the best thing that could happen for KP, boy do we miss him at number 4.
  • 92-4 (trail by 217).
  • well the number 4 is still their at the moment, but only cos Bell moved up. Taylor out for 10, KP is certainly being missed.
