  • I thought he made a statement last season with 25 players! :-0

But yes it should be an interesting one, hopefully nothing too controversial!

I have been waiting for my annual "significant player investment" letter

Tony j sending him out to speak for him again
  • I have a bad feeling about this!!
  • Um....Don't like things like this!
  • Why the South London Press? Surely the Kentish Times would have reached more fans :-)
  • I can't imagine it'll be too controversial.

"looking forward to next season...working closely with SCP on targets...not willing to overpay...times are tough...board are united...really pleased with sponsorship deals...academy investment is important for the future"

  • Think.killerandflash has.seen the draft !
  • Cawley has replied to a tweet, he now says ' I say statement,it's more a couple of paragraphs'
  • Could someone copy and paste it here?
  • Cawley has replied to a tweet, he now says ' I say statement,it's more a couple of paragraphs'
good, would be more worried if it was an extended piece.

    Hope he says this.

  • Someone with a lot of money departing the board?
  • If it's anything significant he won't have given it to the SLP first.

    (I hope)
  • Actually by statement maybe it means bank statement, to show we're no longer over our overdraft after Zabeel topped the meter up?
  • Cawley has replied to a tweet, he now says ' I say statement,it's more a couple of paragraphs'
    Alright. A sentence or 2.

Great! Can we spend the next 24 hours debating what might be in it and claiming that all speculation is based on some kind of fact?
  • Well, if I was Mr Slater ....... I'd tell the fans what they wanted to hear.

    ;o)
  • Can some one ask Cawley is it good or bad?

exactly my thoughts, will be nothing of much importance.

doubt it will even make the back page
  • Any form of meaningful 'statement' would.be on the OS, not SLP, simply because they.would want the web traffic and full control of what is wrote.

So I'd expect something generic about how hard everyone is working, and hoe looking.forward we are to the championship.
  • There must be some reason for lack of (none) signings. Any statement that says nothing is going to be of no use at all. The fans aren't stupid. Also there will not be much generation of ST sales from this point forward if we're not levelled with!
  • Your last point is very good Melrose.
  • a signing will soon change everything, the garden will suddenly seem rosier
  • He's only gonna tell us about his marathon win.
  • Or how good the Atkins diet is judging by his 'trust' photo.
  • The fans aren't stupid.
What's your source for this statement? I've seen very little evidence to back up your claim.

  • send out slick rick, with his silver tongue to smooch the gullible fans

edit: slick rick is slater( a rick astley lookalike) not rick everitt

So they announced that they are going to make an announcement, perhaps tomorrows announcement is to tell us there is a full statement next week.

    This

  • Someone in the know has tipped me off - he's sadly had to come out and publicly announce that Charlton will not be signing Messi.
  • You are fooking Joking me, i cant believe it

No, Cawley put out a teaser to get more hits/sales for the SLP claiming he had a "statement" from Slater.

He quickly changed "statement" to "couple of paragraphs".

So Charlton havent announced anything and my guess is that will still be the case this time tomorrow.

  • I reckon Michael Slater is going to tell us what Olympic tickets he's got and how addicted to Charlton Life he's become :-0

All we've got to do is work out his username , and we've cracked the code!
  • Perhaps he's got a Friday Would Ya? for us
  • Is he running any marathons?
  • I entered a marathon once, got chocolate & peanuts all over my knob!!

    Mr Slater? Is that you???
  • You can be sure of one thing. It won't be on the back page. That's always reserved for the masterminds from the rusty toolbox
  • .... Terry Hurlock given Knighthood or such-like.
  • I can't give too much away but my sources tell me that it will contain at least two capital letters, three commas two full stops, and a split infinitive, sadly.
  • Can someone please post the 'statement' on here for us exiled from London addicks......thanks
  • Slater says ' I've heard about some gossip about the club, but for the last year and a half we have consistently said that we will operate the club on sound commercial principles, and I believe last seasons success vindicates our approach. Last summer Chris signed players to create a team that we believed would be able to compete in the Championship, so although he is looking to bring in a few new players , there is nothing like the urgency of last summer and we will not be rushed into decisions. We are not inactive in the transfer market, but the fact is that in League One we were a big fish in a small pond ,whereas in the Championship there are plenty of other big clubs vying for the players we are trying to sign'
  • Thanks Frank.

And thanks Michael, that totally clears everything up and addresses all the fans concerns.

    Or maybe not.
  • If that's it then it is poor.

If you are not going to elaborate, don't even mention 'gossip'.
  • Certainly now makes me think CP could be unhappy.
  • "and the 4th Mysteron is Mr Jimmy Carr...."
  • So what he's actually said is.... Our budget is akin to that of our competitors or thereabouts.
  • What does it say?
