  • oh and Mendonca of course! How could I forget him!

  • Mendonca
    Rufus
    Bonds
    Campbell
    Glover
    Hewie
    Tees
    Parker
and of course .... Solly Solly
  • Steve Jones... oh hold on, you said "cult"
  • No Derick Hales or Keith Peacock or Eddie Fermani Shame on you!

Killer is there .. and as for the others .. I am chastised
  • Claus Jensen.
  • Can I offer you Brown anyone?
  • Claus Jensen.
Ah yes! The great Dane! :-)
  • John Robinson
  • Not sure how David Whyte makes your list, what's the thinking there ?

Brownie and Robbo would fall under cult heroes for me.

Don't really know. I guess I was just a fan thats all so to me he had a bit of that "Cult hero" status.
  • If we were to list our top 10 cult heroes I wonder how it would look? Anyone willing to have a go?

Think it really depends on the generation. I've only been watching Charlton for twenty years so it would look something like:

    - Chris Powell
    - Clive Mendonca
    - Alan Curbishley
    - John Robinson
    - Steve Brown
    - Richard Rufus
    - Scott Parker
    - Andy Hunt
    - Mark Kinsella
    - Dean Kiely

    In no particular order.
  • Mark Fish?
  • Funnily enough Yann would be pretty high on my list even though he has only been with us for a season. I have so much love for the man!
  • Allan Simonsen was short lived as a cult figure and the cult did not attract as many members as was hoped for but those that did join will never forget him.

Andy Hunt, absolutely. Pringle, anyone? Pringle must be the definition of a cult player. I thought Hunt and Pringle complimented each other very well.
  • Can I offer you Brown anyone?
    I'll have an eighth
  • Saša Ilić for "The Save"?
  • The bloke from Portugal, you know, the fella who wasnt enamoured by Millwall?
  • In reflection, I've always thought of a 'cult hero' as someone who wasn't always necessarily the best player or the obvious option. The likes of Mendonca are very obvious legends, but I would say someone along the lines of Kishishev or Paul Mortimer are 'cult heroes'.
  • Radostin Kishishev?

Agree. Bartram, Hales, Firmani are heroes but not cult heroes IMHO
  • Mark Stuart
  • Kish isn't a bad shout

Beat me to it! Add to that list Steve Brown who fits that bill as well (for me at least)

    I Agree

Cult Heroes are players Kishishev, Johnny Robinson, Gritt, Steve Brown, the sort of stalwarts who always gave 100% to the club and on the pitch, even though they weren't necessarily the greatest players we've ever had.

    Sam Bartram
    Keith Peacock
    Alan Curbishley
    Robert Lee

Sorry but I think its too early for Yann to be a cult hero.
  • Going back a bit and heroes from my youth and beyond:

    Dave Shipperley
    Johnny Giles
    Bob Curtis
    Phil Warman
    Arthur Horsfield
    John Humphrey

And just to be a bit controversial may I mention a Millwall legend who, to my mind, was a cult figure during the short time he was with us " 'arry boy" Cripps.
  • How could I forget Johnny H, shame on me!

Absolutely agreed with Kish, Steve Brown and John Robinson. Add to that, and I repeat, Martin Pringle. Not the best, or even best-looking, player and, yes, he missed absolute sitters. But then he'd run the length of the pitch and score a solo screamer. And, as I said, I thought he and Hunt had a good understanding in that Championship winning season. Like at Bolton away, when he got on the scoresheet and set up Hunt's goal.
  • Funny how Jonny Fortune rarely gets a mention in these things, wasn't a particularly great player, stuck around for a long time and scored one hell of a goal.
  • Les Berry
  • I second Martin Pringle, in his early days he was everything at a cult hero is. Shame for us all that the Valley turned on him in the end. Makes me sad when that happens.
  • JJ the 1st
    keith jones
    stuart balmer
    Mark Robson
  • I was a big fan of Pringle and real shame how his career ended,he had so much pace. Its really difficult to separate favourite players and cult heroes when thinking back.Kish and Paul Williams were favourites but doubt they would be classed as cult heroes by many.
  • The bloke from Portugal, you know, the fella who wasnt enamoured by Millwall?
And the bloke who played up front, with a name that sounded like a fanny.

They were both cult heroes to me.
    And Johnny Robinson.

  • Harry Gregory & Charlie Wright.
  • Hans Jeppson
  • I've never seen a Charlton player with the same amount of skill to dribble past players than Paul Mortimer. It was as if he would take it past two or three players EVERY time he got it at his feet!
  • Cliff Holton
  • Dean Kiely.
  • Carl Leaburn is the absolute definition of a 'cult hero'.

    Matty Holmes -
  • Farmer Giles
  • Bob Bolder?
  • Tresor Kandol??!

Nice selection of colours & sizes, though. Just ordered a Yann t-shirt on for my lad's birthday - red & white with 'KermorGOD' printed on it!

  • Just bumped into Clive R at the Post Office.

    does this count?

If it was Sir Paul Ellis I would expect double points.....
