  • He's young and physically fit, so has a better chance than most.

My thoughts are with him and his family.
  • Would of hated being there and seeing it in front of my own eyes.

Hope the fella pulls through. Thoughts with him and his family
  • Draws football into significance really , it us only a game and yet we all get so wound up by it , the lad is fighting for his life you just don't expect it to happen in a sport like football

I don't really care tonight for the charlton score yet I have no allegiance to the lad but it has made me think about what's important

My pal rang me from WHL and said that it was one of the worst scenes he has witnessed and was genuinely shook up
  • You could see by the reaction of the fans that it wasn't the normal injured player. It seemed like lots were crying. It was a bloody good response by the fans singing his name tho.
  • Very shocking really hope the guy pulls though

Thoughts go to his family and friends

I've lived in Walthamstow for the past five years and Fabrice went to one of the local schools here .He often visits his old school and is seen as a good role model for the students . I'm told he is a really genuine lad .I hope he pulls through.
  • Heard this had just happened listening to Five Live in the car coming back from Scunthorpe.

Loads of calls about how well professional footballers are monitored these days , checking their heart rates constantly etc. But also stating that 12 fit young people die every WEEK from undiagnosed heart related conditions which suddenly strike them down. That's 600 per year....Doesn't bear thinking about.

Hope & pray that Fabrice can make a full recovery ..

  • Looked like a cardiac arrest the good thing he was treated very fast, very small rate of surviving but a lot higher when treated quickly. Let's hope to God he pulls though
  • Very best wishes for a speedy (and complete) recovery... Poor fella..
  • May I just add what a good job the medic teams have done.

Above everything else they have saved this mans life.

These our the heroes in our society..

This happened to a friend of mine back in November. He was driving his car and suddenly felt ill; luckily he had the time and presence of mind to pull over. At first the people with him thought he was messing around because he had seemed so well beforehand but within ten minutes he died in his son's arms whilst waiting for an ambulance. His family were absolutely devastated. At his funeral there was a large picture of him laughing away and looking really happy. The shocking thing was to be told that the picture was taken just half an hour before he died.

Best wishes to Muamba, hopefully if he's got this far he'll be able to pull through.

  • still fighting for his life............but he is still alive and thats the main thing..........com'on Fabrice you can beat this mate. Please god this is going to come out ok.
  • Fabrice Muamba Update
    Sunday 18 March, 2012

Fabrice Muamba remains in a critical condition in intensive care in the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital.

Fabrice was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening after collapsing at White Hart Lane, where he sustained a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to The London Chest Hospital, where his heart eventually started working.

As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.

His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists at the hospital.

Bolton Wanderers Manager Owen Coyle said: "Fabrice's family have asked me to pass on their thanks for the many, many kind messages of support from not only Bolton fans but also fans from clubs across the country and abroad.

"All our thoughts and prayers are for Fabrice and his family. The family would also like to thank the media for respecting their privacy at this time."

No further updates are planned at this time.
  • My beautiful Italian cousin suffered a catastrophic heart attack on the football pitch in the middle of a game. He was only 21 years old and he died almost immediately. Some thirty years on, it is still quite amazing to me that modern technology, decent paramedic training and our NHS, together with an alert referee can make such a difference. They have succeeded in maintaining Muamba's life and I hope with all my heart that Muamba can go on to make a decent recovery.
  • Terrible thing to happen, but if it has to, you'd want it to occur somewhere where there are medics close at hand with a defibrillator available and close to the London Chest Hospital. Hopefully caused by an electrical disturbance that can be very easily treated and cured. The fact that he received treatment so promptly should have limited any long term damage to his brain or heart. Obviously we don't know the full details of how long it took to revive him etc, but the fact that they got to him so promptly, got him to one of the best Heart Hospitals in the world, and that his condition seems to have stabilised, is very encouraging.
  • I hope he recovers.

Fingers crossed sorry to hear you have personal experience of this.

  • Gotta say this whole thing has really changed my stereotypical view of spurs fans.

They were amazing yesterday, not only the guy that ran on but the singing and the respect they showed.

    Get well soon fabrice.

By a sad coincidence the day before Fabrice Muamba collapsed at White Hart Lane the Ben Daniels Memorial Fund was launched.

Ben was a very active 15 year old cricketer and footballer who collapsed during football training. Despite the best efforts of the medical professionals Ben died three day later.

Ben's name was one of those displayed on the big screen during the minutes applause v Stevanage.

Please take the time to read about the memorial fund and the work of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) who to work with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young by establishing good practice and screening facilities devoted to significantly reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the UK.

Hope that Fabrice pulls through and returns to full health.

Spot on. A friend of mine died on the football pitch 5 years ago. It took 20 minutes for the medics to arrive. Lots of my mates were giving him CPR and trying whatever they could. Best wishes to Fabrice. Nothing else can be said really.
  • I made a point a going on youtube, after hearing of the fantastic supporters of both clubs. When they started to urge the medical staff on is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard. It left me in tears, I pray with everything I have for Fabrice, and I have so much respect for the fans in WHL who experienced this tragedy unfold before eyes and their reaction.
  • Kilmarnock player's dad had a heart attack earlier pitchside after watching killie win the cup.

    Sad.
  • Surprised to hear on the local news that it took 2 hours to get his heart beating on its own
  • Whilst we all swear and shout at each other at football matches and trade words of hatred it's nice to know at times like this football folk stick together.

Good luck Fabrice - Keep fighting
  • Disgusting that 'RIP Fabrice Muamba' is trending on twitter.
  • Disgusting that 'RIP Fabrice Muamba' is trending on twitter.
    Agree.
Problem is so many people are tweeting how disgusting it is that the term is still being mentioned so that keeps it trending.
Also lots of people see it trending and just assume its correct.
    Horrible.
Should be some sort of control on twitter to block things from trending somehow.

It pretty much sums up Twitter. Lies and gossip. ( in my opinion)

I ran the Marathon in 2010 for CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young and doing it again this year. Fantastic charity helping families come to terms losing a son or daughter. My friend died at 26 playing hockey from a heart attack. Horrible, horrible situation.

    Fingers crossed for Muamba.
