  • many thanks swisdom!!! CHEERS!!!
  • Steve, can you do me a favour mate. Can you just stick to one thread and keep bumping that one up, rather than starting a new one each time. Ta
  • SORRY AFKAbartram just trying to help super clive!!!
  • Bit more info would be good
  • its a question and answer with myself and clive and a few beers, photo opportunity with clive plus a small auction & hopefully a few more 98 players will turn up also a great chance to meet and chat to clive whos very reclusive now ! will be a great night with a few good storys to tell from myself and clive!!
  • Will there be a geordie to english translator there?

Sounds like it will be a good night, hope to get there, subject to work. Steve what time does it start? Is there a cost on the door? I would also suggest that you tweet it with charlton in the text and #cafc and regularly re tweet
  • I'm interested in this - sounds like it will be a great evening. Answers to Kap10's questions would be good. Thanks.

Clive was a Mackem, not a Geordie. They get a bit funny with being called one if they're the other.

  • I see that there is a link on one of the other threads about this which gives all the detail you need.
  • It's £20 in advance, £30 on the night and £50 for a 'platinum' ticket where you get a chance to meet both and a photograph and autograph opportunity. Can't make it myself but I'd be pretty disappointed if £20 for a standard ticket didn't get me a photograph and autograph opportunity................................

I'd have realised if there had been a translator when he told me!

  • many thanks to all that have made a bid in clives auction & brought tickets for our evening with!!!

    steve
  • hi all

only a week to go on clives auction!!

    steve
  • Are you actually for real?
  • Are you actually for real?

    Why wouldn't he be?
  • Not totally sure until the day if i can get there in time . Hopefully i will make it ok and i will pay on the night.
  • Beds, serious question. You'd pay £30 to go along to a Q+A meeting ?

Someone might like to point out that on the advertising flyer above, there is no time.
  • I asked the question earlier about the time and was told 7-30 .

I don't mind paying £30 because Clive has not really been seen much at The Valley ( if at all) since he retired and that day at Wembley will always be one of my best ever.

I know there are plenty of question and answer sessions with current players and management that are organised through supporters branches but this is a little different.

I see some threads have been shut down regarding this night and people involved with CL seem a little bit cagey about it.

Out of curiosity what are your concerns about it ? Am i being naive?

  • I'd like to keep my own thoughts to myself on this one, but if you want confirmation that the person posting under stevejones is him, then yes it is.
  • I'll say it.

£20/£30 to sit in a room and ask a few questions sounds a bit on the steep side to me, despite the probable "best intentions", etc. The "Platinum Package" at £50 sounds like a complete joke really. Unless you get your own lap dancer with that then I really don't see how that sort of dough can be justified.

Shoot me down if you want, but I won't be shelling it for it.
  • Agree with Off It seems a bit steep, even for a night with a legend. i think Steve has over priced, but hope I am wrong.
  • Sorry, but I can't help but think that those prices give credence to the idea that footballers are out of touch with the reality of life for most of their fans.
  • Paid 20 quid for a Gary mabbut night , seems about right price wise but the 50 quid one is a bit steep in my honest opinion

  • hi all

the £50 platinum package includes front table plus a 16 x 12 superb photo of your choice which clive will sign on the night as for the £20 ticket which i thinks very resonable as we had to lay out alot on venue, tickets, etc !

the evening will kick off with platinum tickets meeting clive beforehand to sign your16 x 12 free photo etc & the evening will probably start around 8 - 8 30

    many thanks steve
  • hi stig

£20 is not out of touch in my opinion without venue will cost clive around £120 to even get back and forth from sunderland?

    thanks steve
  • hi off it

as for the platinum being a joke once again theres been alot of cost producing photos of the quality we have, setting up the montage for the photos alone was expensive, this has been proved by the amount of photos weve sold which has been lots & we are near 50 tickets sold now with still 3 weeks to go

    thanks steve
  • hi bedsaddick

the threads were shut down by charlton life as they did ask me to stick to one thread which i am now doing, dont know to much on computers!!

    thanks steve
  • Steve

So if you buy a £20 ticket can you still buy a 16x12 photo? If so will Clive sign it?

Also with the £20 ticket can we get photos with you both and maybe the others?

    Cheers
  • How much do the bromley addicks meetings cost where you get to meet players/managers/directors etc, just as a comparison point?

Also I'd be interested to know more about the "quality" of the photos, as being a photographer I can produce prints on archive paper for very low amounts. Is it 16 inches by 12 inches (cost prob about £8) of centimetres in which case you're looking at about 50p.

The Bromley meetings cost nothing other than you are asked 'voluntarily' to join, which I believe is a very reasonable £5.00 a year...........there is also a concession price I believe for kids and over 60's.
For that fee you can attend all meetings throughout the season and they are without doubt the best 'question and answer' Addicks meetings I have been to over the years.
Ben, please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these points.

  • Why are you comparing it to Bromley meetings when you know it's a fundraiser for Clive?

falconwood_1........I assume that question is directed at blackheathaddick?

No need Stu, you are quite correct and often the meetings are open to non-members anyway.

I would say however that these are different events from the Evening with Clive Mendonca and with a different aim so not totally comparable.

There are many events such as the Clive Mendonca evening advertised so there clearly is a market for them. Good luck to Steve and Clive and I hope anyone who makes it along has a great time.

Yes mate. I back what Henry says too.
  • The man is a rarity at charlton as he actually was a legend. If your not going like myself fine but stop with the comparisions its cringeworthy
  • I don't understand why people have to post a negative comments on here - very sad. I mean, nobody is being forced to go and Clive obviously needs a bit of support and his mate is helping him out which is very noble. The play offs final was a special day and I'm sure the event will be worth every penny. If you want to support him or simply if the evening appeals go and if you don't, avoid the thread. Sometimes the odd adage, 'If you can't say something positive, don't say anything at all' is very apt. I think Steve Jones and Clive deserve a little more respect, even if the negativity is only from one or two.

One think I'd love to see is a video of the match with Super Clive, Steve and any other player butting in with their recollections and feelings at suitable points. It would help relive what was probably my best ever football day and to be honest, I doubt there will be a better one!
  • I went to a Super Clive meet and greet with Steve Jones at the Melbourne Arms a few years ago!

If I remember it was £20 ticket? 16x12 prints (3 diff prints) £10

    It was great evening!!

Plus Andy Ansah turned up which was a bonus!

  • hi off it

Looks like the pricing is spot on. Time to move on guys.

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for the response, glad to know there's a nice pic with it.
  • Steve, are you still in touch with many other players from back in the day?
  • Can't go, but all the best with it. You and Clive and the rest of the team that year gave me and my family one of the best days of our lives, certainly the best football related day.
  • I'd pay the £20 happily if I could go but unfortunately I can't besides I already have @stevejones autograph about 50 times as I had a mega crush back in my single days lol. Clive gave us Charlton fans the very special gift of wonderful memories, it's greatthose that want to give something back to him. Best of luck Steve, I hope it is great success and that the funds he needs are raised.
  • I am glad this discussion has turned around; so, other meetings are free but as Henry says this is different and I look forward to going and hopefully see other heroes of that unforgettable day. It is also to say thanks to CM who sadly didn't have that real opportunity to leave as he surely would have liked, having suffered that long term back injury and, if I remember rightly, left by way of an insignificant substitution on a Tuesday night at the Valley. (correction please). This got me thinking how other great players in our history also left the pitch at the time quite unobtrusively, never to play for us again?

He left via a benefit match (aganist a Dutch team) either in 2003 or 2004
  • NEC Nijmegen I believe
  • If you have nothing nice to say , say nothing
  • His last competetive match was a 0-0 draw at QPR in the title winning season the Saturday before Christmas.
  • I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but a couple of years ago I'm sure I remember Steve Jones was also in a position where he had to sell his own momentoes.

In which case, I think it's great that he's helping Clive right now.

  • Seen a couple of folk suggesting that these guys are rich footballers with little comprehension of the man on the terrace.
Nothing could be further from the truth...both are struggling to make a living and for differing reasons both are 'far' from wealthy men. I've done a bit of business with Steve myself and he was (and maybe still is) in a very tough competitve business which in these hard times I suspect is not fairing too well.
Good luck in their venture......I went to one of their do's in a pub in Plumstead a year or so back, so wont be attending this time round but the very best of luck to you guys and I hope it's a resounding success.
