Got to be better than staying at home and being made to something else or worse dragged "kicking and screaming" shopping again.

  • Barnsley are playing at home, but its £30 for a ticket so lets not
  • Visit the Ernie Moss finishing school. It's where Killer used to teach him how to !
  • and if any of you fancy staying over, there's a few of us that have non-refundable digs booked.
  • Get a train next stop up to Sheffield, only 15 minutes. Lot more going on than Chesterfield

    I understand it's a MASSIVE city.
  • Could stop off at Leicester and go watch them...only trouble is that they are playing Cardiff.
  • pop into Chatsworth House and knock off some old masters .. or young mistresses if they are available .....
  • Only ever been there once, for the Chesterfield by-election 28 years ago, when I stayed for five days.

Not the liveliest place in the world, but a nice town and very hospitable people - and they elected Tony Benn in the by-election, so I liked them even more.

The local girls are especially friendly and I had to fight them off. (I know that's hard to believe but it happened. Honestly. Not just once, but every single bloody night).

I'd like to believe it was my animal magnetism. But it is more likely that bcause the Chesterfield ladies are not only good-looking but extremely smart, they swiftly realised I was there on a fairly generous expense account.

Having fought off the women, I found the walking in the area was excellent, through the Rother valley and along the old canal tow path.

I suppose I must have always been a sad case. I was only 30 at the time, but I dismissed the local talent trying to feel up my expense account and went for bracing walks instead.
  • it's oop North - there must be some wrestling on, check if Giant Haystacks, Big Daddy or Kendo Nagasaki are on at the local town hall.....
  • ferret racing championships?
  • I dismissed the local talent trying to feel up my expense account and went for bracing walks instead.

I fear an edit waiting to happen here once Dave Mehmet cottons onto this thread !

Is it settling ? Do you think the game will go ahead ?

We've moved through rain (3pm), sleet (5pm) and now intermittent snow. It started to settle but the snow has almost stopped now. I'm just over a mile from the ground. I'm hopeful at the moment, yes.

Like you say the overnight temperatures are the killer & some weather sites are forecasting -7 for Friday night & still at -6 at 9am Saturday. I reckon there's a 10% chance of the game going ahead & that's if the weather forecast changes for the better.
  • If it is -7 tomorrow night then I cannot see the game going ahead.

Hmm I can see the inspiration for your name ..................... nothing personal but didn't you like the ring of "what a twat I was in Chesterfield addick ? ;-)
  • To honest you could have far worse places to kill a few hours around here. Mansfield, Rotherham, Doncaster etc.
  • Snowing quite heavily in Bexley and very cold when out side the pub, so we probably would not have had a home game.
  • Anyone going up on their train tickets if it's called off tomorrow is a nutter!

I will be in bed with god knows how much to the charity of East Midlands Trains' choice in the bin!
  • Can't see the game being called off tomorrow.
  • We still work on BST chambta, it's friday night already here.
  • Who won the 2.40 at Kempton?
  • It's a bumper meeting on the all weather and as we are all middle class we don't bother with it.

    We're all waiting for Cheltenham.
  • Is Kempton for the working people? Cheltenham's more my thing too to be fair.

Don't want it off as I've been looking forward to it for ages but I'd rather it was off tomorrow than midday Saturday. So if it's going please let it go with a bang tomorrow!

Bloody weather, meant to be going away early hours on Sunday it's all going to pot!
  • All weather is soooo working class.
  • Are there many commoners around The Valley?

If you go over the river, yes ;-)

Yes loads, but not as many as at Millwall :-)
  • The mixed bacon sandwich I had right next to their old Saltergate ground when we played them in the Cup a few years ago was by far the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. And I've had a few.
If I was in the UK, i'd definitely go for the game, hope it was off so I could have my dream sandwich and not resist the ladies @incorruptible addick wrote about.
  • Bacon mixed with what?
  • Eggs and some kind of kebab I think.
  • From that sandwich shop on the corner? Sounds bizarre, perhaps they bunged whatever slop they had left your way and hoped you'd eat it.

Not after this week. We are now a Royal borough so we can eat swans, drive our cattle over common land and have droit du seigneur on the day and in the town of any away game.

Couple of points to remember, Henry is a Lord and he hangs around Churches pre match on a Saturday making notes.
  • Yes, it was on a corner. Two ladies serving. There was quite a queue. You'll never destroy my dream.
  • I must book a weekend away in SE7 with the Missus, show her the sights.

I'm getting confused Henry I thought we were all 'Middle Class Tossers' this morning. We've got to sort this identity crisis out once and for all.

  • When i went on holiday to Greece last year I was chatting to a bird from Chesterfield. She seemed like a right slag ;-)

You should. See a show at the best concert venue in Europe, couple of Royal Palaces, the place were time begins and the Valley. What more could you want.

  • What I found even more strange is that she was on holiday with her ex and claimed they were just friends????
  • What was her name? I might know her. Only a few of us in this little town ;-)
