Will the Chesterfield Match Be Cancelled? (ed. game off)

I'm pretty sure this ones going to bite the bullet as well , snow forecast Friday & Saturday , will be gutted as i've bought 4 tickets and a non refundable hotel (Silly Lad) when do you think we'll get to know that its called off , i'd rather we were told on the Friday rather than told on the Saturday when we've travelled / travelling on the way up there , so i'm going for a 15:00 Friday announcement by Charlton , that the games called off , when do you think it will be announced , or are you the eternal optimist , who thinks that game will make it , and go ahead?

  • It'll happen.
  • All depends on whether the forecast happens or not. Chesterfield have had a week to prepare as much as they can. Late Firday early Saturday would be my bet if it does get called off.

How about changing the title to something slightly less categoric. Thanks for the change MIA
  • Bit of a silly title...
  • I think the title needs changing as it's very misleading.
  • Change the thread title please.
  • Title change please.
  • According to their forum their players were training on the pitch at the B2Net Stadium today and will be doing so later in the week.
  • I'd already picked up the phone and dialled my brother as I opened the thread. Nearly ruined my week.
  • I quite like the (current) title.
It will be cancelled if the forecast is correct.

Well Nick, as I said to you this morning it's looking 50/50.....though of course we will have to wait until it's officially announced one way or the other by Chesterfield. Anything else can and of course has in the past (not on CL mind you) led to huge confusion, so it's a bit 'silly' to take notice of anything that's said (as well meaning as it might be), by folk passing on info before the club has made an official announcement.
Only my opinion of course and I've no doubt there's many who'd disagree but I think it's wise to let the clubs do the talking re such an important piece of info and not their employees.
Was it Mendonca in Asdas who had booked the hotel for us by the way?
Got some hospitality tickets for Bournemouth today (luckily) and will be travelling down with Dave B..........you know the guy I told you about from Ashford.

  • The Friday night temperature will be key.

No 'what' was not the original title!!
  • I'd already picked up the phone and dialled my brother as I opened the thread. Nearly ruined my week.

I was about to slit my wrists....

  • No games cancelled at this ground last season, despite the weather being arguably worse last year than this year.
Expect the fixture to be played.
  • I was working driving through Chesterfield on the freight trains last winter and the weather was shocking with minus 10 common at night. So if no games were cancelled we could be lucky and the game should be on.As said before its the surrounding area and travel problems due to the weather that could cause grief.
  • Jesus we are a cheerful lot on here, all doom and gloom, no doubt if it is on, in which i believe it will be, what will be the next thing to moan about.

Is it? Bugger. I'll call my brother and tell him to run a bath and fetch his Stanley knife.
  • Looks ominous. There isn't even a review and match prediction thread for this game from Preview towers!
  • BBC News this morning, we are expecting around 6 inches of snow in the next 24 hours.
  • OOH, I've not had 6 inches in my back yard for quite some time.........................
  • It's 'in your endo' time again!!
  • Not expecting 6 inches again Lee are you?
  • If it's off am going Barnsley v Birmingham to tick Oakwell off my list.
  • Met Office is predicting a temperature of minus 4 for Chesterfield on Friday night . I would say its 50 / 50.
  • Pitch cover is meant to protect it down to -5. If in addition there is snow cover on top then I reckon there is a pretty good chance of it going ahead.

  • Sorry guys, the only weather site that gets these things pretty much spot on is http://www.netweather.tv case, before the home match last week it said -6 and that is what it was.

The very bad news is this. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=uk7dayx7;page=3;ct=6119~Chesterfield;sess=#forecast

    00:00 = -7
    03:00 = -8
    06:00 = -9
    09:00 = -8
    12:00 = -4
    15:00 = -3
  • Sorry if i've given people the hump by starting this off , i'm having Charlton withdrawal symptoms at the moment , what with last Saturday's game being called off , as i said at the outset i just hope we can have plenty of notice so we can plan other things if the game is not going to be on.
  • I can not take another football day without Charlton playing my head will explode. I will end up being dragged around the shops again, in my top looking like one of the sad plastic fans from Man U or Chelsea. Please weather, go away, come again an other day (preferably then Charlton are not due to play please).
  • Your right Stras , there's only so much shopping and decorating you can do! ;-0
  • The Met Office has issued an "amber" warning instructing people the north of England to be prepared for widespread ice, while "yellow" warnings for snow and ice are in place in a number of English, Welsh and Scottish regions.

    Forget it.
  • Bromley v Staines Town it is then
  • Worst month for it as Welling are away all month so I can not even go and watch them :-(
(as they are the only other team her in doors let me go and watch)
  • I must admit it looks very doubtful the game will go ahead. Temperatures getting below zero and if the pitch freezes on Friday night it simply will not thaw out. Not good and another midweek trip to fit in for the team. I'm at Waltham Abbey on Saturday with a Sunday League game the next day and I am not holding out much hope. Football-less weekends are painful....
  • I dont know!
  • Cawley is saying it could be called off tomorrow.
  • Temperature forecast to be -7 on Friday night. No looking good.

Oh hang on, Met office say -2, BBC say -3.

Is there a contingency plan in place for Charltonlife to manage the escalation in b******ks that is likely to occur following nearly two whole weeks without football?
