West Ham to Charlton - Travel..

I'm planning on going West Ham v Millwall on Saturday, it's a 12.30 kick off. What's the best way of getting to the Valley after the match and will I make it on time? Additionally will I have to leave early?

  • Helicopter. Hope this helps.
  • Armed escort.
  • Getting away from the ground is a nightmare at the best of times never mind a game like Saturday.
  • You're not going to like this but I would bin off the Spammers V Spanners and get my priorities right.
  • I attach a link which details three booklets which cover the SE London sewer network.
This may be your quickest option.

  • 1 car
    2 doubtful
    3 probably
  • Which end are you in ?

I suspect the Spanners' fans will have a long wait . Best bet would be bus to Canning Town and over to Nog by Jubilee ,don't think you will make kick off at the Valley.
  • Talking of sewers its interesting to note that the great great grandson of Sir Joseph Balgazette, the man who spent his life pumping crap out of Londons' homes, is Peter Balgazette, a Dulwich College old boy - the man famous for pumping Big Brother into our homes.
  • Get nicked, they will take you to Greenwich police station, get bail ump on a bus.
  • district to west ham, then jubilee line to north greenwich, and a bus. I've done this journey before and made it to charlton for about 3:15

I went the last west ham millwall at upton park, and to be honest it was carnage just outside the station. Couldn't walk down Green Street cause it was blocked off with west ham fans before the game. Then it took me years to get back to upton park station afterwards, because of fans blocking up the road like lemons waiting for the away end to be vacated. Don't me suprised if you struggle to get out the ground quickly.

No no, don't start umping you'll get nicked again and put back in the slammer!

You might make it for the 2nd half if you're not in hospital.

    not me.

Hmmmm, thanks for the help peeps..
  • Get a motorbike lift, thats the only way...
  • Leave the ground at around 70 mins in. Avoid the rush etc, then u want the dartford tunnel and all the way down the A2 turning off at greenwich.

Bam! Any how prioties are Charlton so, leave the earliest you can. But. 70th at the latest.

I think not. If you're driving it's definitely Blackwall Tunnel.
  • Watch it in the warm on SS2 with a pint.
  • Why would anyone want to go to that!?!
  • Get a bus to north woolwich/silvertown and leg it through the foot tunnel and catch a bus to charlton. Alternatively, if you ask AFKA nicely, he may come and pick you up in the CL chopper.................
  • Why would anyone want to go to that!?!
I have masterly effed up with dates, there is no doubt where I would rather be on a Saturday afternoon.

I don't like letting people down though, as we arranged this months ago.

debacle should be my middle name on this occasion... about that helicopter lift.....................?
  • Good Luck. Don't forget your tin hat!!
  • Cycle ---only way to get away from that ground or walk quick and use the Foot or Ferry -- i would also leave early like 5 minutes into the game.
  • Depends where you are seated, the Millwall lot will be kept behind for some time if your planning on being with them.

I'm sitting with the West Ham, along the side.

I agree. Not exactly one for the neutral to enjoy, sitting there watching c##p football in a foul atmosphere, waiting for it to go off any minute whilst missing your own team playing up the road. It's a strange one I'll give you.
  • It's on Sky. Go to Charlton & watch it in the pub :-)

District to Bromley-by-Bow and a 108 bus from there to Greenwich Library.

    That's REALLY early!

  • Walk to East Ham. District line to West Ham. Seven minutes from there to N Greenwich on Jubilee line. Avoid Green St and Upton Park. Actually avoid the game altogether and get The Valley.
  • What the fuck are you doing that for? Someone forcing you to go?

No question I'd rather be at the Valley. It's a long, sad story and I promised him. I effed up the date.
  • Problem solved Poplcon Charlton game off...........stay safe and enjoy!
  • Bet the OB are hoping for that to be called off too.................
  • What and play it midweek instead dont think so
  • What a dire game of football, thought this was supposed to be a passionate derby!!!, the Hammers (Carlton Cole in particular) look shite
  • I wonder if a few hundred millwall turned up without tickets and tried to slip in the ground like the helmets who did at the valley
You'd think they would try, considering allegedly we don't mean so much and it's all about west ham ....
    Of course it is
  • wonder if they have been spotted with the equalising goal. boo aah?
  • take it all back!! 2-1!
