Boris on the move?

edited January 2012 in Not Sports Related
Splashed across the front of this week's Surrey Mirror: 'Boris for next Reigate & Banstead MP?' with snaps of him wandering round Reigate with the sitting MP, Crispin Blunt. The Right Hon. Mr Blunt, Minister for Prisons, is one of those MPs who is rarely seen or heard: his claims to fame are 1) fiddling his expenses for doing up his garden (now repaid), 2)stating that he and his family prefer to live in his Fulham residence than in his constituency and 3) leaving his wife shortly after the General Election ....'To come to terms with my sexuality'.

Reigate is an ultra safe Tory seat and, unless Wolfie's revolution takes off, always will be: it's tailor made for Boris who, of course denied any interest in Reigate but at the same time gave no reason for his visit. So, even if he wins the next mayoral election he could still be on his bike.

    I quite like Boris.

There aren't many characters in Westminster at the moment.

Politically he made a big mistake going for the job of London Mayor. Interesting to see him criticise the decision to give Stephen Hester at RBS a massive bonus, which seems to be the exact opposite of what Cameron and Osborne are saying...

I think Boris is distancing himself from Cameron at every reasonable opportunity without wholeheartedly alienating himself from the party. Clever politician old Boris. I think he has ambitions for the leadership at some point. I am a socialist through and through and often cringe at what Boris says but I can't dislike the man. I will however be voting Ken for Mayor.

Boris is doing what he always does in every aspect of his life, keeping his options very much open.

If anyone believes the whole bumbling buffoon thing attributed to him then they are a bigger fool than he is portrayed to be

Boris is like most MPs/politicians, a devious careerist .. I would rather see him back in Turkey as the Calif of Istanbul .. that is.. right away from British politics. I neither like nor trust him

Boris is trying to distance himself from the unpopular elements of the Tory party in order to get re-elected as Mayor. I have no doubt that if he does not get re-elected as Mayor, he will get a seat safer than a peanut wrapped in 1,000 tonnes of bubble wrap.

He wields power and Cameron knows/is scared of that, but also needs to utilise it in order to get himself re-elected

Cynical world we live in, they should make them go through an episode of Gladiators (Old version with Fashnu, Johnson and the Wolf etc) and the winner gets the leadership...

Boris has to cycle up the Travelator at the end.

He has blighted the lives and house prices of hundreds of thousands of people on both sides of the Thames Estuary with his Boris island Airport push. He is using this to gain votes from the West of London. The Thames estuary is solid Tory and he does not give a jot about them in his quest for power. He has now got on board his chums from the Bullingdon club Cameron and Osborne. I hate these power-obsessed, born-to-rule public schoolboys that have infested our politics.

Mayor Boris Johnson had to be rescued this afternoon after getting stuck on a zip-wire clutching two Union Jacks...

You think Call-Me-Dave is going to allow him to stand as an MP and then potentially challenge him as leader?

His application to replace this MP will get lost in the post. Besides that he has promised that he'll see out his current term as Mayor and then he needs to find a safe Tory seat and then spend a year or two on the backbenches.

The need for a new airport or expansion seems a valid one; so where would you build it? Never going to please anyone is it.
