Someone mentionned this website on another thread (http://hidemyass.com/) but I can't get it to work. What, if anything, do other overseas addicks use? It would be nice, for the first time in my life, to access BBC I Player, Channel 4 etc.
If you don't mind shelling out a couple quid each month I would highly recommend Identity Cloaker (http://www.identitycloaker.com/).
100% reliable, very easy to set up and you can connect to a variety of servers across the globe. I live in Thailand and it works like a treat for things like BBC iplayer, etc.
50 Euros for 12 months. Been using it for 18 months now, never had any problems, well worth the price. Doesn't seem to cause any significant reduction in bandwidth when connected.
Excuse my tech numbtiness but what's this thread all about ?
Some websites (especially BBC Iplayer) will not show you content ( MOTD and movies etc) on your PC if you are overseas.
They can tell from your IP address where you are, but some companies offer a "hiding system" where you go to their UK based website FIRST and then use their browser to surf the net - and it looks like you are based in UK and all is well.
This is called a "proxy server" because it is acting in place of your real server.
People in offices and even schools and colleges use them to look at web pages that may be banned by their superiors - (if you know what I mean).
Jimmy, I'll hold my hands up - it was me that mentioned hidemyass, but it was for UK bods to access the international web streams of the commentary (the exact opposite of what you're after!).
Try 'Harry-my'private-network.com It's advertised on the Radio Times programme page as well. £5 month and ultra reliable.
I use this, it has worked well for me over the last 4 months since I started subscribing. I've had a couple of occassions when i haven;t been able to get onto the proxy network, only for 10 mins or so and then it's back up. Customer services answered a uesion I had withing 15 mins as well even though it was after midnight in the UK.
