Akpo Sodje

Have you seen Akpo is injured again and set to miss the start of the season at Hibs!! Oh how well we have done to get young promising consistant players, Ones that are not injured for over half the season like a good 3 or 4 players last term COYR

  • well i wouldnt count our chickens yet !
  • As ooh aah says don't count your Chickens.

Check out Wiggins and Taylors injury records and Evina is injured as well.

Looking very promising at the moment but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
  • Not forgetting BWP of course
  • Although they are younger than Akpo, so hopefully recover quicker (hopefully being the operative word.)

We seemed to have do many players injured all the time last season it has to be better! Especially with this new guy from Southend onboard. We do need another Striker however.

I'd be pretty surprised if we go all season without at least one player missing a substantial chunk of it through injury.

Ofcourse their will be inures I am not naive enough to think that however I feel last year we had a serious problem with long term injuries. I am hoping for better times this year with the new bloke sorting the fitness.
  • Signed for PNE after a spell in China
  • Hard working player but never going to set the world alight with ability. Really don't see Preston going anywhere soon.
  • On of my worst ever charlton players. Appealing first touch.

However, scored 4 in 3 for Preston per season apparently.
  • Better first touch than Killer but neither's game was about playing with their back to goal and bringing others into the game.
  • He's alright.

Not the most gifted footballer we've had down the valley but by no means the worst!
  • I thought he was going to be the dogs gonads after THAT game in the rain at Yeovil .............how wrong I was !!
  • A timely reminder, whilst we're all moaning (me included), of what life was like not so long ago.

OK, so we haven't necessarily got a squad to seriously challenge but we have got one to have a good shot at consolidation - if we'd have fluked promotion a couple of years ago I don't think we would have been able to say that.
  • His goal at Yeovil will stick long in the memory bank.
  • Hardworking honest player at the level we were at the time.

Would get a clap from me if he returned to The Valley as an opponent or as a guest.
  • I was so excited when he signed. Hard working and battled for the cause, but never really did it for us.
  • Never went missing just not good enough to get us promoted at the time.
  • On of my worst ever charlton players. Appealing first touch.

his first touch was anything but appealing. I assume you mean appalling though, and it certainly was. Will never forget he gave it his all though and I believe he genuinely cared for the club, his celebrations told me that. Good luck to him
  • He managed to raise the roof of The Valley by scoring that goal V Leeds. So for that alone he's alright.
  • Nice man, wrong job.
  • The goals against Yeovil and Leeds make him a legend. Think he's a very good L1 player on his day.

Imagine him and Euell in a keep ball competition!!

A player of limited ability who would walk through walls for the cause, when I see a player like him I think of marcus bent and what a waste of space he was
  • Was a very big fan of his brother Sam as well. Still think he would be good enough for our squad now actually.

Sam Sodje was released by Notts County at the end of last season & is still without a club as far as I am aware

Why do so many always find it so hard to have a good word to say about our ex players?
  • Showed he cared and was willing to play for the team in the 9 man game against Swindon where he did not stop running and chasing down despite it being a waste with such an advantage for them.
  • I thought he was going to be the dogs gonads after THAT game in the rain at Yeovil .............how wrong I was !!

    This
  • That era is perhaps summed up by Sodje S, Sodje A and Forster all playing non-league for Margate a few years back.

All three subsequently proved themselves better than that but it gives an idea of the depths to which we plummeted.

  • Watching Akpo's goal against Leeds (above), didn't Lloyd Sam do well putting that header into Akpo's path?

    Quality assist.

How dare you try and say Lloyd Sam done anything right! ;-)

I liked Sodje, bit of a donkey but had a couple of magic moments, and like everyone else said, would run over hot coals and broken glass for the cause

Driving home in my pants because i was soaked, great day out at Yeovil :)

  • Scored v Bournemouth and tonight has put Preston 2 up v Palace's reserve side in the League Cup
  • Loved singing 'We've got two Sodjes'! Thought Akpo was ok for the level we were playing at and he was certainly committed to the cause. Not sure he would be any good at the level we're at now, especially as he must be getting on a bit.
  • Swindon match he put in the most memorable individual performance in 40 years supporting Charlton. Beat Mendonca at Wembley.

I'm never sure whether you're a WUM or a complete fool. No offence. :-)

Were you there? The guy was chasing down his own flick-ons. Awesome performance! I love Yann and Mendonca but they didn't have that effort in their locker.
  • I was there.I think he was making up for the stupidity of his brother in getting sent off by showing that one sodje cared about the team.To say it was better than Mendoncas performance at wembley is ridiculous. My main
memory of him was the one man army substitute performance at Yeovil as we got soaked to the skin.

Nicky Forster played one game for Margate in 1992.
  • I quite liked Nicky Forster
  • Akpo sodje. Beat mendoncas performance at wembley. Teeheehee.

    Do me a flavour

Exactly, how could anyone surpass Mike Small's performance at The Den in 1994?

Well, you have established that you're not a WUM :-)

(Yes, I was there and have also been supporting Charlton for 40 years. His performance wouldn't rank in the top 500).

yep, cant believe we've signed a bloke who used to play for Hayes and Yeading and another bloke we signed is a non league goalkeeper that we're playing in central defence?! How desperate are we?
