Portal 2

Best videogame I've ever played

Comments

  • I played the first one on The Orange Box and thought it was amazing. However you got 3 games on there. So I'm not sure I want to spend £40 on just Portal 2.

However I need to play it so badly so I may rent it. Ingenious idea, I'm surprised it's taken so well!
  • Leroy, in order to take you seriously I need to know what you're number 2 is.

I won a copy of Portal 1 a couple of weeks ago but due to hotmail's anti spam filter I haven't got it! A copy of Half-Life 2 on steam for anyone who knows how I can access blocked e-mails!
  • Those are bold words Leroy, but pretty much everyone I've spoken to who's played it more or less agrees with you.
Having said that, Portal was a splendid game and I'm looking forward to playing the second one, but I reckon I'll wait like I do for all games. £40 is crazy money.

I reckon I might be in for a loooooong wait...
  • Don't want to buy it, as I fear I'll lose a large slice of my life
  • strongly recommend. I've played and completed both single player and co-op and it's both hysterically witty challenging and rewarding as well.
only problem i found is that when you've completed it both it's finished. and with no new downloadable content till mid summer, i traded it in.

but yeah get it. you won't regret it!
  • I'm a bit meh with it to be honest.

I bought it purely based on the hype and had no idea what it was about and what to do - as you can imagine my first hour or so were particularly confusing!

I'm getting the hang of it now and have to admit it is a pretty unique idea for a puzzle game though I'm not sure I have the patience for some of the challenges
  • Loved the first one, which was a lovely surprise - essentially a freebie shipped with one of the Halflife2 addons.  What has been so improved that makes it worth the money?  I'd imagine that just making it much longer could be a bit boring?

    Do you get cake?

  • i feel it's just abit drawn out Mclovin, the introduction of new mechanic's like light bridges catapults vortex's and goo is really good.
and stephen merchant is hysterical in his part.

    but no no cake :(
  • My favourite game up until Portal 2 is the first Silent Hill - or possibly the first Tomb Raider.
  • Not sure how you can say you didn't know what to do for the first hour - the game takes you through it and shows you! I think the replay value will be limited, but they can add more levels through downloadable content, which should extend the life of it. There are five or six bits in it that made me say "this is f***ing brilliant" - out loud, to myself, in an empty room. GLaDOS and Wheatley are fantastic - but it's Cave Johnson who's the star of the show. Hysterically funny.

The gels are amazing - the first level where you get to use all three is mind-blowing

  • "My favourite game up until Portal 2 is the first Silent Hill - or possibly the first Tomb Raider."

Leroy - Based purely on the above sentence, I have to say I might actually change my stance on not paying through the nose for this game.
Silent Hill was my favourite game for years and only stopped being my favourite when I started getting sick of the sequels. Similarly, Tomb Raider was almost the perfect game of it's time, sadly ruined by poor sequels and by the developers pandering to spotty fourteen year old boys with no access to porn.

Not sure. Maybe I'll get it this weekend if I'm feeling weakwilled!
  • My favourite computer game moment of all time is the T-Rex in the first Tomb Raider. Both are good games but I would personally rate Half-life above both of them and that was out around the same time.

Unlike you console zombies I could just download the above for free and save myself £40, likewise they're probably a few mods I can mess about with whilst you wait for your downloadable content. Cheers.
  • Anyone could do that. It's not difficult to steal something from the internet. PC gaming is a PITA however - consoles make everything so much easier.
  • Well not worth £40.

Arma2, thats money well spent, war sim. Sod console *^&% like cod. CSS, Arma2,
  • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Anyone know where the "Translate gibberish" button is on this new setup
  • Depends on the game though, Leroy. Genuine question, can you get mouse/keyboard for PS3/XBox nowadays? I can't imagine an FPS being as good without a keyboard and mouse.
  • Son completed it in about 9 hours total, though he was checking You Tube for hints!
  • I've succumbed.
Ordered it from Amazon last night.
Can't believe I've just paid £36.99 for a video game!
  • Don't see the point in buying brand new video games just get it on ebay for cheaper

  • gonna wait until the winter i think...
  • Saw the 'Last of Us' thread and thought this deserved a bump. Still the best game I've ever played. I went through it all again about six months ago and found I'd forgotten most of the puzzles. Remembering them all again was as much fun as solving then the first time round. Those "Oh yeah, I remember this!" buts were fantastic.

I bet the bastards never make a third game :(
  • I still have a PS1 and copies of Driver 2 and Alien Trilogy. Nearly there.
  • It's definately one of the few games that will get a re-run in my machine some time in the future.............
