I've got a 5 year old Altec Lansing 3 speaker system and I've been quite impressed with it, it's certainly been better than anything else I've had at the price. Not sure about the newer spec. and sizes, but maybe worth a look.

SoundSticks - but if you like the look. Would not suit all households.

Logitech are excellent for pc speakers. logitech z-2300 is a good 2.1 system.

I thought this was going to be a thread about 'politically correct after dinner speakers'

not sure where you can get these for under a 1er.

the soundsticks look ace i think, you could tuck the sub away some place if reminds you to much of close encounters.

Have you guys looked at the bose speakers...you can get the companion 2 speakers for around £100 although they are only 2.1 sound you dont really need a subwoofer. Ive got a pair and they are really good.

    Poplcon,

You are right. I bought them three years ago for £109. Their price seem to have risen since.

I have listened to the following in shops and recommend them.

logitech are always a good bet. Used to have a set of 2.1 z-4's, quite loud and clear with a good sub, cheap too at bout £50, but I did spend £130 on my soundcard. Upgraded to a bigger set, z5500 5.1, and its one of the best purchases I ever made, bargain at £200
