One set of rules for away supporters and another for home?

right Luton Town was chanting "who are ya" when it was 0-0 and a small batch of nine teenagers start chanting "who are ya" back and around 20 steward come to escort us to futher down the East stand towards the North to Block G i believe. the thing is straight after we scored because i was in Block A i was able to have a convosation with a Luton Fan and had a little bit of banter and a couple minutes later the stewards come. they also threatened to kick me out because i said it was pathetic.

    Change the record.
  • On another note, how quiet were the Luton fans! 300 Barnet made more of a racket.

Agreed. Given that there were 3000+ and it was their big day out I thought they were pretty quiet.

Agree also, at time they were quite loud, but for 3000odd, it was poor.
  • 'Their big day out'? You're joking aren't you? They are a similar size club to us and have been to a major cup final in recent history. They should be congratulated for filling the end, albeit it with quiet and disilusioned fans.
  • major cup final?

    Are you American?

    They don't get irony either.

Similar size club to us? .....really?
  • Similar sized club to us? Absolute bozzocks.

If you was in the Rod before the game, inbreeding was the order of the day.

  • luton have always had poor home crowds not a nothing club like watford but still not of our size
  • [cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]major cup final?
I'd call the league cup final pretty major. Not a similar size club to us though.
  • think recent would be the jpt though
  • "Similar sized club to us? Absolute bozzocks."

Quite right. We are a much bigger club than you. ;)

Had a nice day today. Let's hope there's a nice juicy tie ready for whoever wins the replay.

Haha if that was the case, half of your fans there today would have used this fine Saturday for Christmas shopping.

What was with the lack of atmosphere today, the Valley was yours for the taking!

Great result for you guys and you could tell how much your players wanted it, your right back throwing himself at every ball.

Set us up for a great return leg, i look forward to the short trip north of the river.
  • luton fans were excellent sang enough very hard to keep going when out of 4 sides only 1 sings charlton fans were appaling we have no right to comment on their support.
  • If we got to the Paint trophy thing against Luton at Wembley (say next season, were they to qualify and pplayed in the northern section), they would sell more tickets than us. They have a bigger catchment and have never been lucky enough to have a wonderful stadium like ours. What crowds would we get in their position? We have a hardcore fanbase of 5k max.
  • I don't think we have any right to criticise the Luton contingents today as our showing was nothing short of pathetic. having said that , the way we play in cup games it's hardly surprising.
  • Why is everyone so keen on beating ourselves up about a sub-£10k crowd?

Jeez, back in our Sellout and Upton Park days we would've loved a crowd as big as today - even in the top division. Absolutely ridiculous comments.

    Agreed, i wasn't expecting anything like 8,000.

Anybody who has paid good money over the years to watch us go out of the cup every year , miserably , has the right to not to turn up. Having said that i still did my usual 160 mile round trip and unlike other's i didn't think we ( or the game) was as bad as people are making out.
  • I guess it's because we didn't lose Beds, so people have to vent their spleen on other things.

I seem to recall us getting a crowd similar today's for our first game back in the top flight for almost 30 years - and Sheff Weds probably had as many then as Luton had today. Different circumstances of course - on many fronts - but I refuse to beat myself over our crowds having experienced those dark days. Some people need to brush up on their history.

    Absolutely not True.
I live in the area and know for a fact that that is not the case.
If they had a stadium of the same size and quality as The Valley and they were in league one they would never average 16 or 17 k . more like 10 or 11.
We have a much bigger catchment area ,it's called Kent. What is the catchment area that you are talking about regarding Luton?
Outside Luton it's villages and small towns and believe me they are not football hotbeds. If the the kids wear any football shirts it's nearly always Arsenal.
Anyhow most people who live in Luton are far more interested in going to a Mosque rather than the football. That's just a fact.

Despite the ignorant comment at the end (over half of Lutonians declare themselves to be Christian) Bedsaddick is right. We pulled 30,000 fans to the Play-off final we were getting 13k crowds in Division 1. And that was before we gained a whole host of new supporters from our schemes throughout Kent & the new supporters we gained during our Premiership success.

Nothing Ignorant about my last comment at all. There maybe more Christians than Muslims in Luton but in percentage terms how many of them go to Kenilworth Rd compared to The numerous Mosques in the area? Irrelevant maybe , Ignorant it wasn't.

They have a ground capacity of only 10,000 now, and are getting 6-7000 every game. The two clubs have gone in different directions since around the early 90s. And they probably would be happier with a JPT appearance than us..

    Where's that then? I must've missed it.

The thread started with someone moaning about stewards, then someone criticised the Luton support, then I defended their support...?
  • The fact is, if we sold 3,000 tickets, like we have in the past for our big games, we would have made a right racket!

Was always going to be a pony atmosphere in our end because it was a nothing game to us. Get to the 3rd round and we will start drawing the crowds in.

As for if we got to the JPT final, we would easily sell 40 odd thousand tickets, 20k regulars, 10k on and off fans, and the rest made up of family and mates.
