Hi everyone. This year is the launch of some new award called 'Community Champions'. A friend of mine has been nominated and is currently 6th. Five years ago she started a charity called Howbury Friends, which runs all sorts of activities for free in the community; after school clubs and extra tuition for 5-11 year olds, teenage projects for 11-19 year olds and even activities for adults and the elderly, as well as community fun days and holiday activities free of charge, plus much more (It'll take all day to write it all). It's all made possible because she dedicates her whole day everyday to the community and she doesn't earn a penny out of it. She is also a single mother to 3 children, she came from a women's refuge into Slade Green and despite everything she has been through she still gave herself to the area.
