Raising Money

edited September 2010 in Not Sports Related
Afternoon everyone,

Wanted to come on here for suggestions/help etc. as I wish to raise money for my younger brother, who has a very rare disease, to travel to America so that he could see the only specialist in the world for what he has. However, I wanted suggestions as to what to do to raise money, there is the option of a sponsered run but I wanted to do something a bit different but I am struggling to get anywhere!

Is there anything I can also set up/do that could help me with raising the money?

Thanks in advance,

Sir Chris

Are you raising it on your own directly for him or via a charity. If its the former I would strongly recommend setting it up as a trust. It inspires more trust in what you are doing and also allows you to get the tax advantages.

however, if you can, going through an already registered charity would be better as they can give you additional support and help.

As for what to do, anything 'sponsored' is fine as it rarely matters what you are sponsoring someone to 'do' you'll either give or you wont. Raffles are the best / quickest way to raise money but the ticket price has to be consummate with the prizes on offer.

Sorry to hear about your Brother.

Agree with Harvey. Contact the existing charity that deals with your brothers condition and ask them for help and suggestions. And register as a trust for both tax reasons and as it re-assures people that you are genuine.

I'd then suggest you get together with any of his friends, relatives, school/work mates and come up with ideas. Any teams, clubs, societies he belongs to that might help or a local pub.

    good luck
