I had pneumonia when I was 5. It didn't hurt so much but I seriously freaked out when I was all strapped up. I had to learn to walk on stairs all over again.
I fainted once and pounded my head on a bench in a school assembly. I went to the doctors and had a needle put in me and passed out again.

The most painful one was when I was 6 or 7. I was playing cricket as the wicketkeeper when the batter let go of the bat. It came flying towards me and hit me straight in the forehead. Blood spurting out and I still have the scar.

    All that and I'm only 12 :)
things can only get better (I hope) !!!!!! .. and what happened to the ball as you were getting whacked on the head ?
The bat had a dent. The ball landed next to me lol.
hahahha.. you must have a tough old head there then ... next time you keep wicket, wear a helmet

This reminds me of when I fell from a roof, bounced off a conservatory roof (luckily we had just replaced the glass roof with new slates!) and landed on a table tennis table that was left at the back of the house.

I came round in a pool of claret and found I had sliced my scalp off and it was flapping around like a cheap toupee. Had it stiched back in hospital and - touch wood - I still have enough hair to cover the scar or I would look like Frankenstein's monster. Happy days.

Ouch. Jeez, how big was the drop???

    Anyone had a meningitus scare?......................Lumber Puncture ; (

Oh yes, thought I had bad flu then the excrutiating headaches, aversion to light etc. Wife calls emergency doctor & i'm rushed to hospital where this evil bastard sticks a giant needle in my spine.....& then told me to stop moving when I flinched.

Had a polyp (abnormal growth of tissue) removed from my nose & to stem the bleeding they force an incredibly huge amount of gauze up your nostrils.Once the anesthetic from the op wears off the pain sets in, there is so much gauze packed in, your face is stretched so tight you think that it's going to burst. You can't sleep the pain is so severe, you just lie there all night long counting the seconds before you can have some more pain killers which have absolutely no effect at all. The next morning it can be removed, unfortunately the bloke in the bed next to mine was having his done first......& he whimpered & screamed like a girl which didn't do my nerves any favours. When it was my turn I was probably no better than him, where the blood soaks through the gauze it becomes glued to the inside of your nose & of course to the hairs in there. Because there is so much gauze & i suppose because of the danger of reopening the wound they can't just rip it out & so they pull it out in a slow & methodical manner & because it's all attached to your nose by the dried blood it feels as though they are pulling your face inside out ......................very very unpleasant !

My last one ( & I appreciate that there sounds a lot more "painful" stories here than mine) was going to the doctor about something & nothing & when he asked me about my bowel movement, like a fool wanting to be honest said that I have been going a bit more often recently & so was sent for a Colonoscopy. Basically a bloody camera up the arse ouch ! Not being used to being penetrated it was a pretty unpleasant experience & you can only have a local anesthetic as they need to wake you halfway through to change position.

Hope I don't have anything else to write about anytime soon !

never had any accidents so nothing major.

After a long session on a laptop round my mates about 5 years ago, I ran down to the field to play football (about 10 metres away) and my knees just gave way. Just like jelly. Couldnt even balance, was just falling over, was scary.
Never had it that bad since but id get intense pain, it was only when i put pressure on them and felt like i didnt have total control over lower leg. My knees felt spongey. I remember walking out the door and hoping I wouldnt get it for the first few steps, because it didnt seem to come on after that and id get a day without pain.

Never saw anyone about it, but it did make me give in football. 19 now and dont get it anymore. Anyone got any idea what it could have been?

Playing football some time ago when two guys both went for a ball in a jump tackle. Clashed knees and split one guys kneecap horizontally. As he went down the bottom part of his kneecap moved down his leg. Not a pretty sight.

Physical pain: breaking my leg during a football match going into a 50-50. It didn't hurt to start with so I thought I was fine and just played the rest of the match. But when I woke up next morning and moved it the pain was unbearable.

I also pulled a muscle in the back of my leg while running on concrete in Primary school and fell flat on my face. The pain I felt where I'd pulled my muscle was nothing I've felt before or since that moment.

Mental pain: watching Charlton slide into division 3. : (

    Sorry I win hands down.
I did this on Christmas morning last year and still have to take the strongest mind bending medication to get out of bed. (So it not all bad)
Sledging down a mountain in Yorkshire (seemed like a great idea at the time) I somehow managed to come to complete stop from doing about 40mph.
This resulted in me breaking my back in 3 places T12 T9 and T7 vertebra's. I now and reminded of this each and every day, I do wish I had realised before I did this I was to old to be reliving my childhood!

Ouch. Jeez, how big was the drop???

I fell from ridge height on a 2-storey detached house, hit my head & scalped myself on the way down, landed on the consevatory unconscious and bounced onto the table-tennis table before hitting the ground.

    Lucky or what?

I had an operation the other day. They snapped my foot, Cut part of the bone at the side off... Moved my tendons around and put screws in to keep it straight.

I am in agony as we speak. Painkillers are not working!

All of these are bloody painful, but tearing your ACL is, I'm convinced, a whole other level of pain - up there with breaking your leg or having a ruptured hernia. As someone who has suffered from tooth pain related to abscesses (which is horrendous) I can certainly understand people saying it's the worst pain there is - but seriously, I passed out when I tore my cruciate (playing ice hockey) - I came round about thirty seconds later with my face welded to the ice and screamed and wept like a girl. In the ambulance I was in and out of consciousness and the pain was so severe that when i was fully compos mentis I had hallucinations.
ACL ain't that bad! I dislocated it a further 5 times once the ACL went, not pleasant, but for me wasn't excruciating thank god!

Femoral patella syndrome. Typically caused by people who sit down for long periods - creates amongst other things tightness in the hamstrings which in turn causes an imbalance in strength between the vastus medialis (inside quad) and vastus lateralis (outside quad). The former is responsible for the last 10 degrees of knee extension, so if weak can make a person feel that they can't straighten their legs. Not to mention knee discomfort.

It's fairly easy to treat however, especially for a 19 year old, and should not in theory prevent anyone from playing football again.

Playing 5 a side footie 13 years ago when I was 30 seemed like a good way to keep fit , until I was taken into a wall and snapped my wrist.

Biggest mistake I made was not going to A and E at the time, the pain eventually getting more and more unbearable to the point where I had to have my wrist rebroken a pin inserted and 9 weeks in plaster (At the time they tell you 4-6 weeks).

Subsequently 13 years on I can't lift heavy stuff and get chronic arthritis and feel like my Nan did at 80.

I'm new to gout, had my first attack this year and there's nothing like in pain wise. I think i'd rather be kicked in the nuts.

I've broken my foot, torn my Achilles, done my medial knee ligaments in and been married to a fruitloop. None of these compare with gout. It's essentially uric acid in your blood turning into crystal needles and introducing themselves to your joints. For me it was my knee - you can't move it, you can't touch it, without excruciating pain. Don't need that again for sure.

No wait, stubbing your toe... ;-)
