Northampton are poised to sign former Coventry striker Leon McKenzie, skysports.com understands.
McKenzie is available on a free transfer after being released by Charlton at the end of last season.
A number of clubs are thought to have been chasing the 32-year-old, but it appears Northampton are set to land the forward.
McKenzie is believed to have agreed a one-year deal with the League Two club and his arrival will come as a massive boost to Northampton after Tadhg Purcell was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

had a good chat with him around Christmas last year and he was desperate to just get out there and play and was really happy to be at Charlton. Hopefully he can stay injury free for a bit

COBBLERS’ footballer Leon McKenzie has appeared in court accused of fabricating stories and documents to dodge paying six speeding fines and avoid being banned from driving.
McKenzie, aged 32, appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of six counts of perverting the course of justice over a two-year period, between February 2008 and December 2009.
On five separate occasions, McKenzie, of Rectory Farm, is accused of getting a garage in London to provide false documents claiming mechanics had been working on his car when, it is alleged, it had actually been flashed by speed cameras.
On the sixth occasion, it was claimed he did the same thing after his wife had allegedly been flashed by a speed trap.
On each occasion, McKenzie is accused of avoiding prosecution and paying fixed penalty notices or having any points put on his licence, by fabricating stories.
The charges date back to allegations which all precede McKenzie’s arrival at Sixfields in September 2010.
No plea was entered and the matter is now due to be heard at Northampton Crown Court later this year.
Magistrates heard McKenzie, dressed in a dark suit and shirt, believed the matters had already been dealt with by a police caution.
Addressing him at the end of the short hearing, presiding magistrate, Alistair Egglestone, told him the matter would now be dealt with by the crown court
He said: “You’ve heard what has been said. You are going to the crown court in Northampton.
“Until that time you will remain on unconditional bail. It does mean you will have to be at court on that day or you will be committing an offence which could result in you being fined or imprisoned or both.”
If found guilty the footballer could face a lengthy jail term, with the charge carrying a minimum prison sentence of four months.
According to national sentencing guidelines, the maximum possible sentence is life but the widely accepted maximum is between one and two years for each count. With McKenzie facing six counts, this could potentially equate to a 12 year jail term if found guilty.
A Cobblers spokesman said all the charges against McKenzie related to allegations that happened before signing for the Sixfields club and it was a private matter for the footballer.
He added that it would be “inappropriate to comment any further at this time”.
Since signing for Northampton Town, McKenzie, who has also played for Crystal Palace and Peterborough United, has played 24 times, scoring nine goals.
He is in the squad for Cobblers’ crunch clash with relegation rivals Burton Albion tonight.
