  • daihatsu hijet, same shape as a suzuki carry. Loved it and had a real emotional attachement to it. I got it up to 90 miles an hour on the German autobahn and it went BANG. Ended up selling it for spare parts for £ 70, gutted!
  • Light Green Mark 1 Ford Fiesta. Bought it in January 1990 for £1100 when i passed my test and wrote it off a year later on black Ice.( wasnt fully comp then but have been every year after that ) Not had an accident since!!
    I loved that car!!
  • hillman imp, white with black bonnet. guy saw me coming, first noticed lots of black smoke coming out of exhaust before engine finally seized on way home.

    This was mine
  • Ditto - oh the memories. Viva, Cortina, Mini then Escort in my teen years. Would of sold my sole for a Capri though. You see youngsters today will never have the pleasure of the Great British motor. The schleping around breakers yards just to keep the feckers running, changing gaskets, blown radiators, replacing alternators and bent MOT's...
  • 1970 reg Mini 850.
    Bought in 1978 for GBP300.
Sold to "entrepreneur" (OK, Pikey) for GBP50 in 1983.

Had a great plate ALF 536H

Good old Alf, many happy memories, including what we thought was a record for the number of people in a Mini up on Blackheath one night.

Had an unfortunate habit of conking out in the driving rain as the alternator was right behind the front grill.

Got a tip to put a rubber glove over it and partially blocked the grill and all was good.
  • Red Ford Escort mk 1. MYR 568L. If it was still running i'd love to buy it back. Then an Allegro which was the worst car i ever had.
  • Beige Astra 1.something brown seats looked shite but i loved it back in the days when unleaded cost less than diesel and diesel was for lorries vans and taxis
  • a light blue Skoda 25 years ago when they were crap

You can find out if any car you've owned is still on the road through the DVLA website. Using that enquiry I have sadly discovered that almost all of my ex-cars are no longer on the road, unless they've been exported I suppose.

My first car was a Morris Minor 2-door deluxe. "Deluxe" = 2-tone interior and a heater! Could see the road through the holes in the floor, but it never let me down and I got it pretty close to it's top speed once, which considering it was an old banger I thought wasn't bad. It came to a sticky end when I was trying to sell it and a friend of mine crashed it while he was test driving it!

  • Mini 850. Amazing how far back the seat would go.
  • Vauxhall Viva, green, left to me by my stepfather, must have been his idea of a joke as I dont drive........yet
  • B975WKL
    Blue ford fiesta popular plus

Gift from dad for passing my test and it was awesome.
Basic and simple car. Didn't like the wet mornings or cold days

You could fix anything on it with a 13mm socket

For a 1.1 it was rapid and kept pace with my mates flashy 1.3ghia

Sold it to my sister for £10 and twenty B&h
  • Green & White Citroen 2CV with a green & white striped roof. I called him Sprout cos he was green & white & very windy!

Beautiful car, went everywhere in it including Ireland & France.

Bought it for a grand, sold it for half that i think years later to a lovely Italian girl.

I've had 2CV's ever since. My current one, Robyn, is coming out of slumber August bank holiday for the 2CV National in Winchester. Robyn is Red & White with a St George cross roof. KB bought me a metallic CAFC badge that i used to place on the boot. It famously appeared on a Spuds website as the Charlton team coach. I remember the feckers taking it as i drove across Blackheath one sunny day. She was also often housed in the toolbox car park in all her CAFC glory lol!!!

The metallic badge fell off one day :-( KB bought me a new sticky one which i shall put on for the national with pride.

  • Triumph Herald c 1973 - cost me £40.

Took a young lady out for the first time just after it had just rained. Didn't realise the sun roof leaked and she spent the rest of the night with wet knickers. Which was nothing to do with finding me stunningly attractive!

    That romance didn't last long!
  • I inherited Lupo(ugly green thing similar to golf but ugly)

although first owned for my 18th got new cooper(which i wrote off just before 21)

1964 B reg Wolsley Hornet. 2tone grey, red leather seats, bloke saw me coming too, drove it home with no synchro in 2nd gear. Took the gearbox out the same night and had another one in it's place by the following weekend.
  • A red Citroen CX. It had some kind of new suspension system. when you started it rose up. Heap of junk, had to have the choke full on all the time.
  • 1973 Mini Clubman 1275 GT in Harvest Gold with Black go-faster sport stripes. I remember at the age of 17 attempting to do my first oil and filter change. Whilst pouring the fresh oil back in I'd forgotten to put the sump plug back in so a lake of castrol GTX duly appeared. 25 years on when I go round to visit my old Mum you can still see the staining on the road outside which she constantly reminds me about.
  • First car I ever drove was my Dad's old Morris 1100 - registration 377 GCG - which basically fell apart from rust as they were wont to do. He put his foot through the floor which told him it was time to get rid of it!

First car I ever owned was a beige 1.3 escort, 'Y' reg first time around which did the job for a few years.

Great car. The most fun you can have on 4 wheels IMO.
  • I had an old Morris 1100 for 3 weeks untill I wrapped it round a lampost (Iwas still 17). And no there wasn't a bloke with a flag walking 20 yards in front!
My street cred did however improve with MarkII Cortina 1600e and Capri MarkI and MarkII (Black JPS paintwork) to follow.

I had a metallic light blue mini metro as my first car back in 92, I can remember it only used to take between £15-20 petrol to fill it up. It was a piece of poop and had trouble getting up the hills but it did the job. The radio was quite poor so regularly went round with a portable stereo in the car.

I can remember one charlton trip in this to bristol city, foghorn will remember, at one of the service stations to Bristol, I left my keys in the ignition and little dan( if anyone remembers him) in the car while I nipped into the services. Next minute little dan walked in with no keys and he had locked the car. I wasn't a member of any recovery organisation so we had to break the back side window. Glass everywhere. We then tied a england flag bearing the mighty Charlton on the cross over the now empty window and drove down to Bristol, bloody cold and noisy all the way there and all the way back. We parked in a side street near the ground and when we returned no one had stolen it. Then when we drove home it broke down and we had to be towed somewhere for it to be fixed. I told you it was poop!
  • MIII Courtina 1600 XL

Loved the car, so easy to fix.

Austin Maxi.... shoddy sofa bed on wheels. Just like the one in this photo, same colour and same AA badge!

    Austin-Maxi.jpg

Had mates who refused to travel in it, but it used to get me up to Bradford Uni when I commuted from London to Bradford for work. Also took me to Carlisle v Luton where me and my mate - who's 6 foot 5 and about 15 stone at the time - got threatened to be stabbbed by a five year old. Those were the days..... I saw a man with the widest arse I've ever seen.... and he was playing Stefan Pounewatchy was his name.

Then it drove to me to Tranmere in our 97-98 promo season got lost after going through the Mersey tunnel, found the ground just before the start of the second half but couldn't find a parking space where I thought the car wouldn't turn into a molotov cocktail on wheels.
  • Triumph Toledo - wtf
  • autowp.ru_volkswagen_polo_44.jpg

    In gold.

    Sold it to Razil
  • BMW Z3 was the absolute nuts. bmw-sports-cars-9.jpg

  • didnt bother learning to drive till my mid 20's so never got to have the joy of owning a clapped out piece of motoring history. My first car was a brand new vauxhall corsa. So I had the joy of owning a clapped out piece of motoring mundanity instead.
