Kish Speaks Out

Teamtalk:

The versatile Bulgarian is on the verge of making his 200th appearance for the Addicks, having headed to south-east London from Liteks Lovech six years ago.

Kishishev is in the final season of his current deal, and has often shown the ability to fill a gap in defence when needed as well as shore up the midfield.

At 32, the Bulgarian maintains he can continue to any job which is asked of him.

"I know I am getting older and older and that the time is going to come when I will start to need a rest between matches - but right now I feel my fitness levels are easily good enough to play game after game," Kishishev said.

"I know there is a section of support that has been watching us every week for many years now and maybe they are ready for some new faces.

"But also I think sometimes you need to know the game very well to see the good things Kish does - everyone makes mistakes in games, not just Kish.

"It is easy for fans to see things like wrong passes because most eyes always follow the ball. However, it is more difficult to see things like the positions players take up to help out team-mates, the work that goes into tracking opposition runners and protecting the back four.

"Only football specialists can see the amount of work players such as myself do for the team, but maybe that type of work is not good enough any more, who knows?"

Pardew maintains there was no sinister motive behind the omission of the Bulgarian from last weekend's squad against Middlesbrough.

The Charlton manager said: "I felt the team which we put out against Boro was the strongest one, but Kish is very much in my plans, so there is big deal there."

Kishishev is ready to battle for his place.

"All the players know there will be some changes during this transfer window and nobody's position is safe," he said.

"It is going to be difficult for everybody - but I hope I can stay in the side or at least the 16 and continue to do my best for the team and the club."

The Addicks are seven points adrift of safety and face a run of games against high-flying Portsmouth, Bolton, champions Chelsea and leaders Manchester United.

Kishishev added: "I have not had a season at Charlton where we have been down the bottom so it is all very new to me.

"I do not think enough of the players were 100% fit at the start of the season and everybody knows once you get off to a bad start in the Premiership, it is very tough to turn things around.

"We need to realise that we are right on the edge and close to toppling over it. We have to fight."

    Well done Kishy.

I still think his experience will pay off next season if we drop down to the Fizzy. I really don't believe he's one of our top earners and I'm sure he'd stay with us without too much of a quibble about wages.

I have too - a mixture of a) it doesn't fit in my pocket now b) the "news" is extremely out of date and c) the price went up!

Well, love him or hate him, he is one of those who has bust a gut for the club.
And he sounds as if he's still up for the fight.

Good on you, Kish. Proud of you.

Now who else in the team is ready to stand up and be counted....????

He's won me over the last season or 2 with his spirit and commitment.

Now if he could get some new contact lenses and pass to a red (or black) shirt when he wins the ball i'd be even happier.

Have him in there over Faye, Romm and Ambrose all the time.

The real problem here is that all of Dowie's new recruits only arrived at the club in the last two weeks of pre-season. This meant that they all missed the vitally important pre-season training and conditioning programme. Unfortunately this lead to us starting the season with a number of key new players nowhere near fit enough for a Premiership season. We have all seen how Faye, Diawarra, Reid, Traore, JFH & Pouso have all struggled for fitness so far this season.

But let's not forget that this was all caused by it taking far too long to select and appoint Dowie in the first place. He then never had enough time to look at the existing squad, determine where we needed to strengthen and actually recruit the players he needed. The consequences have been there for us all to see!!

Red Pete - Dowie was actually appointed on May 30th which gave him the whole of June and July to start signing players but he preferred to ponce about at the World Cup with his BBC mates rather than start working properly for us. BTW, he did not sign anyone who appeared in the WC either so he can hardly say he was scouting for us.
He was appointed in plenty of time and given plenty of money but the bloke absolutely butchered it.

But when did the players report back for pre-season training so that he actually had a chance to have a look at them?

I seem to recall that JFH was at the World Cup working for the BBC. Could Dowie have tapped him up there?
