Kris Boyd (SPL Only)

The original statement was "Kris Boyd just broke Henrik Larsson's reccord on the hogmanay eve - what an amazing achievement in the number of games it took.
..Happy hogmanay all lifers" - not "Kris Boyd is a better player than Henrik larsson - discuss" - we could talk about that 'til the cows come home. Clearly Boyd is playing in a new era, where the old firm are depleted in comparison to Larsson's era, despite the lower calibre of players around him Boyd has managed to score a higher number of goals in the SPL, in less games, than Larsson. 65 of these goals were for Kilmarnock.

I would be a fool to say Larsson wasn't a good player, he was, but Boyd has completed a great achievement in the SPL.

    Bad night for Nicky Weaver!

A few on here the other day saying they wouldn't mind him back at Charlton to replace Elliot :-)

No Moo2 for Motherwell tonight. He back with us now?
  • Options
Motherwell have a new manager so maybe his chances of a permanent move have been scuppered. Pity as we may have got a very small fee

Officialy on Jan 1st - has been mediocre for Motherwell but probably better than that fella we've had since Richardson's been out. Anyone who thinks Weaver's better than Elliot needs his/her head checked.

    Boyd's still amazing.

    well done to Boyd.

Jimmy McGrory's 410 goals from 408 games for him to aim at now.
  • Options
Just had to phone my Dad and ask who Jimmy McGrory was !!!

Oh well, it was pre SPL so it's not relevant !!!

    Boyd's still amazing.

Surprised no one has taken a punt on Boyd in the Prem. Saying that he never seems to play well against Celtic or in Europe for Rangers.
  • Options
if you know your history : - )

Footba existed before the EPL or SPL so don't buy into the hype that ignores achievements pre their invention.

Sam English's (ask your dad) record still counts as does McGrory's.

Fantastic, Boyd is officially better than Larsson. Well done Kris!

I've checked your head. You're wrong. Elliott's better. And cheaper.

    Boyd's still amazing.

cheaper maybe but i heard weaver is available on the cheap and i know he is better than elliot and i am right more often than not!

This time you're not. First time for everything.

    Boyd's still amazing.

moo2 is only on £2,000 a week at motherwell. scottish football is not paying that highly. reckon weaver is probably on about that too. what does elliot earn?

Better than Larson? Pah! Has he scored many in Europe?

As the above poster said, all these SPL and Premier League records banded about are pathetic. There was football 20 years ago!

Boyd is shite. Not fit to clean Larsson's boots. And I say that as man who couldn't give a toss about Scottish football, Celtic/Rangers, the religious bollocks or political tripe that goes along with all of it. Boyd is a flat-track bully - able to score plenty against lesser opposition (i.e. every team in Scotland bar Celtic) who are the equivalent of teams that we're playing in division three every week. Stick him in against an even remotely decent defence and he's found seriously wanting. The same most certainly cannot be said about Larsson - who not only scored a shedload of goals in Jockoland, but also did it whilst playing for some of the best sides in the world, against some of the bext defences in the world, and consistently at international level.

Comparing them is like comparing Darren Bent with Marcus Bent.

    Clearly not true.

Odd to comment on a thread entitled "SPL Only" then.

    [cite]Posted By: Leroy Ambrose[/cite]religious bollocks

Lets not start that rubbish - I don't want this thread sunk !

Boyd has scored more goals against that same "lesser opposition" in the same number of games, arguably playing in a weaker team.

Please don't mention these men in the same sentence.

    Boyd's still amazing.

How many times has Boyd scored against Celtic? How many of Larsson's goals were against Rangers?

    The defence rests m'lud.

The topic was Kris Boyd (SPL Only) not (Celtic Only). Therefore their records in the SPL are relevant - Boyd's is better.

Boyd may have a better SPL goal-scoring record than Larsson but is not in the same class as a footballer.

Larsson left Celtic for Barcelona and later played for Man United, I seriously doubt Boyd will ever scale those heights.

Watching the championship goals DVD a massive majority were down to his slow reactions, poor reach and overall poor keeping.

If he had done it in the English or Spanish league he would be ''amazing''

Yeah, that does my head in, there should just be a national top flight record.

If Larsson was so good, why did he spend some a considerable chunk of his career playing in Scotland?!
  • Options
the SPL nowhere near as good now as when Larsson was playing BUT a lot of boyds goals were also at Kilmarnock so arguably a better achievement
  • Options
He really is a very good player anyone saying otherwise, I suspect, hasn't watched him play. Pure finisher with a physical presence.

Something about him though seems to irritate mangers - a lot of his appearances for Rangers, under two very good Judases - have been off the bench despite him being a complete goal machine. I suspect he's not as good as Larsson, but he's a lot younger too. A move to England would be interesting. Could sink, but if not, he could be the best out and out scorer in the country. I think Wenger had him and Naismith on trial a while back, but it didn't work out - it'd be interesting to see how they'd develop in that kind of top setup.

Yeah, that does my head in, there should just be a national top flight record.

I just phoned Rupert Murdoch and he confirmed to me that Football began in 1992.

For the record, before this season the main criticism that Boyd was "only a finisher" was probably true, and a 6 yard box specialist at that. Kinda like a slightly overweight Scottish Van Nistelrooy. This season though he's really developed his game. He's tracking back and defending more, scoring goals from inside and outside the box he's becomming a much more complete player. I'd hate to see him leave (unless we can talk Rangers in to a swap deal for McLeod) but it's starting to get to the point where I think he needs a bigger stage. I bet everyone who's "bigging up" Larrson probably said "he's bob because he only plays in Scotland" before he moved on, now is Boyd's time to do the same. The biggest problem is he's a Rangers fan and now a legend amongst his own people, turning his back on that could be a difficult decision.
