Coaches going to The Emirates

edited December 2006 in General Charlton
Noticed in the programme that all away coaches must arrive at the ground no later than two hours before kick off or they wil be turned away.

What on earth are away fans supposed to do two hours before kick off other than pay The Emirates bar staff £3 for a small bottle of lager?

The coaches from The Valley are leaving at 4.15 for a 7.45 kick off at a ground 10.3 miles away which The AA reckon will take you 33 minutes.

  • to be honest, get the tube if your coming from Charlton.

If you're coming from Deepest Kent, have a wonder down Holloway Road, or go into Upper Street?

... oh, I thought this was going to be good news about Les Reed's new job in the Gulf.
  • part of the conditions when planning permission was granted apparently. Imagine a big FA Cup game and say Leeds or Cardiff fans arriving over two hours before kick-off. What fun that would be !!

or if they use it for a fa cup semi final where both sets of fans have to be there 2 hrs prior.
  • The whole planning permission situation with Cashburden Grove's a bit of a fiasco - Arsenal were originally meant to have parking facilities for coaches at the new ground, but managed to wriggle out of that, which didn't exactly please the locals. Hence this daft stipulation.

They were also meant to cough up for improvements to Holloway Road tube station, but managed to get out of that too, which is why it closes during matches.

Anyway, Islington's a decent enough place in which to kill a couple of hours, it's not as if you're having to get to White Hart Lane early...

Reckon you've stumbled upon why they're doing it.....
