Comments

  • Charlton win 7-1 in a classic cup thriller
  • Charlton 1 - norwich 0

In a terrible match, Charlton edged out norwich when a freak goal kick by the norwich keeper struck a pigeon and it flew into the net for the winner.

Charlton announced they are signing Parky permanently given this fantastic result and the pigeon was signed up for £2m. Sadly it died - but is still expected to be nearer a first team start than Chris Dickson

Aside from that goal there was nothing of note and the majority of the fans in the ground were seen hanging from the rafters at the final whistle
  • NORWICH COME TO THE END OF THE ROED

Norwich sensationally sacked manager Glen Roeder following this embarrassing defeat at the hands of Championship laughing stock Charlton. The Addicks, who lost 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly against the workers of nearby Makro just this Tuesday, recorded their first competitive win in 14 years.

    DELIA'S CHRISTMAS IS STUFFED

Delia Smith went home via Lets be Avenue yesterday, as Norwich crashed out of the FA cup to a sublime hat trick by recalled midfielder Darren Ambrose.
  • CHARLTON DON'T NEED A WIZARD NOR A WITCH

After a fantastic performance from Charlton which saw them ease into the 4th round of the FA Cup, the Board immediately gave Phil parkinson the manager's job on a permanent basis and at the same time announced Zabeel have finally bought the club and given the new man £100m to spend.

A resounding 4-0 win from Charlton including 2 goals from the returning Darren Ambrose, one from Andy Gray and a last minute chip from promising youngster Jonjo Shelvey lifts hopes around The Valley that they can turn out this performance week in, week out and start climbing the league.
  • CANARIES GO FOR A SONG

Charlton took out their recent frustrations on struggling Norwich as Chris Dickson took advantage of a rare start to score all six goals in this one sided affair. Manager Phil Parkinson bitterly complained about the strikers lack of work rate following the game.
  • "Arsene Wenger sneezed------------------------------------ + some tiny outfit in South East Lndn won 7-6 "

Charlton 273-6 beat Norwich 233 all out by 40 runs.

After Glenn Roeder and Phil Parkinson agreed to try a different sport as both sides are rubbish at football, Charlton progressed to the 4th round of the cup yesterday thanks to a brilliant century by opening batsman Svetoslav Todorov. He reached his century with a six that cleared the flats behind the Jimmy Seed stand. The Bulgarian said "we may ask Nottingham Forest if we can play them at Darts next Saturday as Kelly Youga hit a 180 in training last week."
  • Made me chuckle Low_Ears!! :-)
  • Delia's team cooked up a souffle at the Valley, scoring with a chip, a nutmeg and a creamer. This was not enough to beat the Addicks who far from looking Bleak, didn't Flounder but won their Plaice in the next round with four in the net.
Roeder said "we cannot Carp about the result"
Parkinson was quoted as saying "we were in a stew, but eventually managed a turnover.

  • DOUBLE JOY FOR PARKY!

After the shock announcement of his appointment as Charlton's new manager on Friday, veteran TV presenter Michael Parkinson rewarded the Valley faithful with the team's first win in 17 matches in a thumping four-nil victory over a below-par Norwich.

Parky told reporters after the game that he had fired the team up in the dressing room by playing them videos of his TV interviews with Muhammed Ali and John Wayne, but that most of the players had prefered the YouTube clip of his 1976 programme in which he was attacked by Rod Hull's Emu...''

    Delias Double Penetration

Delia Smith was left reeling yesterday after her dreams of a cup run were Dashed within a minute either side of Half time, jon Jo Shelvey scored a fantastic opener smashing her back doors in with a fine tackle that led to the ball being deflected to Holland who laid it back in to his path for him to rocket the ball home from 35 yds,

Delias lot were then left spreadeagled as Chris D.I.C.K.O Dickson showed the Valley faithful (2654) what the team had been lacking infront of goal with a poachers finsh between her posts.

Parky was said to have stated after the game that he would be changing the team after the win as the consistancy shown in the 16 games prior is what he and the board were aiming for.

He also said Yes Dickos goal was great but he cant hold it up or bring others into play so thaty was his last game for us

PARKY REAPS REWARD FOR GETTING HIS DICK OUT

Chris Dickson was the Charlton hero as 10 man Charlton saw off Norwich in a dire affair. The out of favour striker making his first start of the season scored a brace in a 2-0 win.

The win was all the greater following Mark Hudsons early dismissal when caught struggling for pace against surprise inclusion, free agent Robbie Fowler 38.
  • Charlton Turn The Corner

Charlton's manager celebrated his soon to be signed 5 year contract with what he described as "a massive improvement on the Sheff Utd game and a definite corner turned"

The addicks slipped out of the cup when goalkeeper David Marshall, up for a corner 4 mins into added time, thumped home a wonderful header to win the game 1-0.

When asked about his sides inability to deal with set pieces Parkinson replied "I just don't understand it, we worked all week on set plays and we have a Premiership quality centre-half in Mark Hudson" Parkinson then quipped "It doesn't really matter though does it, we can concentrate on the league and I've got 5 years and 15 strategic reviews before anyone is likely to question what I am doing".

On a darker note, fighting broke out in the North Upper when members of a popular Charlton message board disagreed over who has the rosiest specs on. Reports suggested there were a number of minor injuries. Message board co-ordinator AFKA Bartram was unavailable for comment and said to be to busy consulting lawyers regarding entering a due dilligence arrangement after a proposed takeover by rival board net addicks was leaked on SSN.
  • STRATEGIC REVIEW NEEDED

Newly appointed manager Phil Parkinson said a Strategic review lasting until Mid May was require for him to turn things around after yesterdays embaressing 5-0 home defeat to Norwich.

In other news, Matt Holland said "We are all ready for our promotion push"

Parkinson is currently in negotiations to give striker Andy Gray a 5 year extension on his contract.

"He is a player I've always rated" said Parkinson.
  • 6-0 Win BUT ADDICKS THROWN OUT

Charlton were thrown out of the FA Cup after it emerged that 6 goal hero Christopher Dickson was in fact an unregistered player for the East Londoners. Dickson who just happened to be passing the Cockney club on his way to hosting a Disco told the media he was asked if he fancied a game. As Phil 'Parky' Parkinson pointed out there would be no problem him playing as no one at the club knew who the hell he was anyway.

So the Addicks miss out on playing in the 4th round but Dickson announced that he was looking forward to playing for Arsenal for the rest of the season after completing his move to the Woolwich based outfit.

    OWEN LEAVES BURNLEY VALLEY LOW

The onfield problems of Charlton Athletic, beaten 3-0 by Norwich in the FA Cup, were overshadowed yesterday by the shock news that Owen Coyle had resigned as manager of high flying Premiership bound Burnley to take over at League 1 hopefuls Charlton. When asked 'Are you mad?' he replied that 'I must be, but the lure of managing the Club I have supported since childhood was too much of a temptation to turn down'.

    A Nazi Surprise for Paolo

A momentous day which started with Charlton Athletic’s entire Board of Directors assembled in the centre circle, all sporting 'Allo ‘Allo style Gestapo outfits, to greet newly appointed manager Paolo Di Canio ended with yet another depressing defeat for the home side at a sparsely populated Valley as fellow Championship strugglers Norwich City claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Di Canio, who penned a five year deal on New Year’s Day, will have to work on his tactical ability as he started the game with only Grant Basey, affectionately known as the ‘tortoise’ by the Addicks faithful, on the left hand side of the pitch, while recently returned Darren Ambrose, Lloyd Sam, debutant Martin Christensen and youngster Scott Wagstaff all patrolled the highly congested opposite flank.

Speaking after the game, Di Canio said he employed the unusual formation because, ‘I love the right wing so much. For me, it is not just a position on a football pitch but it is also a philosophical and political statement. It provides me with a moral compass.’ He then enquired of the assembled press whether West Ham United had beaten Barnsley at Upton Park. ‘For me the ‘Ammers are like my first ever love and to manage them one day very soon would be like a dream come true.’

Di Canio’s cumbersome, awkward system allowed the Canaries to take advantages of acres of space behind the Charlton rearguard and they were rarely threatened throughout the 90 minutes as a Robbie Earnshaw brace and a 25 yard screamer from Wes Hoolahan put the away side in complete control, although Charlton prodigy Jon Jo Shelvey, 13, who was seen doing his school home work by the side of the pitch just before kick-off, almost gave the Addicks an early lead following a 60 yard run past eight outfield players which was reminiscent of Diego Maradona at his very best.

Meanwhile, Di Canio confirmed that Fabrizio Ravanelli, 43, has commenced a two week trial in SE7 while new Charlton player-coach Teddy Sheringham will make debut as a starter against Nottingham Forest next week.

Charlton’s Chairman Richard Murray also revealed Chinese International midfielder Zheng Zhi should complete a 50,000 pound move to Crystal Palace before the transfer window closes on January 31. ‘This is an excellent piece of business for the club’, said Murray.
  • ..........0-3. But what really interested the Valley faithful was the sight of ex-manager Alan Curbishley and ex-crowd favourite Paolo Di Canio sitting in the Directors' box together. Chairman Richard Murray was to be seen constantly running between them and the director's bar with trays of drinks (lager for Curbs and a cheeky, chilled Pinot Grigio for Di Canio) and sausage rolls. Murray denied any connection between their attendance and the Charlton manager's job.'Despite today's disappointing result Phil Parkinson has my full backing and that of the Board. Alan and Paolo just happened to be passing when their car had a puncture and whilst Mr. Waggott was fixing it they had a look at the game' he explained. 'The puncture was worse than first thought and that's why they spent a further 4 hours in my office and are staying the night in a Blackheath hotel'. ............Then I woke up!
  • "NORFOLK AND GOOD"

1-2 and out numbered by the same amount from the away following!
PP quoted, we can now concentrate on staying in this division, as a good cup run could have been a distraction.

  • after a 2 nil defeat Parky says " we need to get it together in the league its what im here for. Affter all my job depends on the results ---- well actually it dsnt but it was a good sound bite"
  • Gooner, you overlooked the rest of his press conference:

''It's always difficult when it's your first game in charge. As the new man you've got to take a bit of time to settle in and assess the squad. But the great thing about coming in afresh like this is that everybody starts with a clean slate. There's no baggage and it's up to this set of players to show me as the new broom what they can do.''

Leaves the press room to the strains of a song The Who famously played at the Valley in 1974 (when a young Alan Curbishley was there selling concert programmes for older brother Bill, who was the band's manager) :

    Meet the new boss
    Same as the old boss
No, we wont get fooled again!

    Parkinson Perky at Parky Valley

Charlton Athletic’s meek 2-0 surrender to fellow relegation candidates Norwich City in the third round of the FA Cup at a freezing cold Valley on Saturday afternoon failed to dampen the spirits of a strangely upbeat Phil Parkinson.

Parkinson, who was appointed full-time boss at the South East London club on New Year’s Eve and who has now overseen nine winless matches since taking the helm from Alan Pardew last November, said the club’s early exit from the world’s oldest cup competition allowed his players to concentrate on their quest for Championship survival.

‘Well, you win some, you lose some eh?! Norwich deserved their win today as they wanted it more than us to be honest and it was bloody cold out there. I was glad to get indoors. But if Norwich hadn’t taken two of their many chances, and assuming we had actually managed to create one or two of our own, it might have been a different story, you never know!

‘Once we’ve had a few days off to re-charge the old batteries and catch up with the Christmas telly, I’ll start drawing up a list of players I’d like to see at the club. There’s no guarantee we can get any of them here of course! But we’ll give it a go I suppose and if it doesn’t work out, well, c’est la vie, as Yassin Moutaouakil might say. Anyone fancy a Quality Street? Chocolate Brazil?’

Moutaouakil, indeed, a former French U-21 international who cost the cash-strapped club almost 500,000 pounds in 2007, has played his last game for the Addicks as Parkinson confirmed he had tied up a free transfer to French fourth division side FC Merde.

‘Yassin did a good job for us and we wish him well but, with the position we are now in, I feel we need home-grown players who have played at the top of the English game for a number of years, either in the Premier League or with a leading Championship side. Now is not the time to go with unknown quantities.’

Meanwhile, Charlton Chairman Richard Murray, who had to leave the ground with a police escort and wearing an afro wig in order to help get him past a baying mob unhappy with Parkinson’s appointment, has confirmed the club has tied up the 400,000 pounds transfer of Barcelona holding midfielder Diego Crappato, 21. Crappato, who is captain of Barca’s E team, is a former U-14 Spanish international and spent last season on loan at Lithuanian Second Division side Dynamo Bogov.

‘Diego is just the sort of player we are looking for and we beat off numerous top European sides like AC Milan, Juventus and Manchester United to secure his signature. This is an excellent piece of business for the club’, said Murray with a perfectly straight face.
  • FC Merde

    LMFAO!!!
  • top form as always Sailor !
  • Cheers AFKA,

They could at least have waited another day to appoint PP so that my Paolo effort wasn't totally wasted!!

    CHARLTON 4 NORWICH O

Following Charlton's emphatic win in which youngster JonJo Shelvey set up two goals and scored a third and out-of-favour Chris Dickson grabbed a hat-trick, new manager Phil Parkinson said: ''It's all very well them doing that in a cup game. But if I learned one thing from Alan Pardew, it's that in the league you need tried and trusted experienced campaigners, like Deon Burton and Andy Gray. So for the Forest game, I'm sending them back to the reserves and we'll be looking to put Jonjo out on loan for the rest of the season and we're open to offers over 50 quid for Chris Dickson.''
  • I was nearly right i had a feeling Jon Jo would bag a screamer for an opener shame about the final score
  • Yes, good shout NLA. Whats going to happen against Forest ?
