IT help Norton 360 Version 2.0 and slow system

Calling all IT bods,

Bought and loaded the above to get some uptodate security to replace Norton 2006.

System was then slower than Paddy McCarthy on Mandrax. It was taking minutes to open programmes.

uninstalled it and the system is back to normal, if not a little faster, but no virus protection.

Is it crap software or do I need to do something when I re-install it to get it to work faster?

Comments

  • Did you uninstall the old programme?
  • Henry, get ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite. I used to have all sorts of security problems and PC actually completely crashed and wiped out my files twice.

Had ZoneAlarm for 2 years and not one security / virus problem.

Will it slow up the system like Norton and where can i buy it?
  • My system is quicker with ZoneAlarrm. I bought it on Amazon. I still have the 2006 version and you get annual download of a complete update, and regular virus / spam / spyware updates. Well worth getting.

    Sounds good.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used version of Norton 360 still two doanloads left?

Just to show it's not just my recommendation - review of ZoneAlarm from Which Computing?:
Powerful, thorough piece of software wlth a partlcularly good firewall 87% Score.
  • I use avira: www.avira.com

Free to use, for the basic package and the enhanced version is cheap.

what did they say about Norton 360 or is that off the back of the box?
  • Review is on Amazon website. Have a look, most users rate it more highly than Norton, although there appear to be a couple of negative responses for the 2007 version. As I mentioned, I have had no problems for 2 years and cannot praise it highly enough. I am forever hearing of problems that others experience that I no longer have.

I got the advice about ZoneAlarm from my brother who has his own business and is heavily involved in programming. As you can imagine, he uses the PC extensively. In view of the fact that he recommended it, I decided that was good enough for me ... and it has proved to be so.

    Henry,

Norton is evil, gets right in your system and slows it down big time. Go for something like Zone Alarm & AVG. Both free.

    Links to download...

    AVG AntiVirus - http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html
    ZA Firewall - http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html?tag=lst-1&cdlPid=10698360

Get rid of Norton first. Theres a removal tool here...

right click my computer icon and do properties, need at least a 1 gigabyte or ram, Norton will slow down older underpowered systems. Although I think its better than the above personally - its finds things they don't always too.
