Flood Alert

For those living near the North Kent Coast, Thames Estuary, Thamesmead (London's natural Floodplain) and East Anglia, the Environment Agency has issued a severe flood warning. Strong winds, high tide and a storm surge all on it's way! The exact situation that they planned for when they built the Barrier!!

Govt's Cobra Emergency Ctte has met. Thames Barrier was raised at 8pm tonight.

  • Thamesmead should be fine, has been on surges like this before, the lakes might be a bit full over the next couple of days.

Problem areas are east of the QE2 bridge, places like Ingress Park will the squeaky bum places

  • All clear here too... can see the Thames Barrier being opened now
  • Barrier is shut again. Perhaps they're expecting a second wind... you been on the apples again Dyer?
  • High tide is about now, so probably open up again in about an hour or two
  • Open now...
  • im surprised they didnt have time to blame it all on global warming and slap a few new taxes around.

Don't think they'd dare... last time it happened was in the 1950's... long before global warming
  • Mate of mine works for the Environment Agency. He said it's been the worst 24 hours he's ever known. They were 90% sure that there would be major flooding in East Anglia and Kent. He said weather conditions changed slightly in the night.
