NLA is spot on. Its been happening too much recently.

The Richard Murray storming the dressing room turning into a pub chat about the Falconwood Harvester is a prime example.

Please consider what you add and whether its in context, and if not start a seperate thread on the side topic.

Otherwise we will have to consider simply deleting inputs, and that will be a waste of our time, and yours.

cheers guys

I am a life-long Charlton fan and avid Charlton Life reader, and have been supporting Charlton since the 68/9 season. This is my first post, but wanted to raise awareness that my two sons are representing Charlton in the upcoming Football League London to Amsterdam Challenge…

Andy and Nick Chipperfield are representing Charlton and participating in The Football League London to Amsterdam Challenge and (Sir) Chris Powell is among those backing them this summer in support of Prostate Cancer UK.
The ride sees fans pedal from capital to capital, raising money for prostate cancer. Kicking off on Friday, June 14th, the route will pass through the picturesque countryside of rural England, before crossing The Channel at Harwich and onto the flat landscape of Dutch Zeeland.

Former England, Watford and AC Milan striker Luther Blissett has already signed up, and other football legends are expected to follow.

If you would like to donate, or for more information, please visit the JustGiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Chipperfield

Thanks for all your support, COYR!

Alas, it is that time of the year when the corridors of CL Towers fall silent to the summer exodus. In the Preview wing, Henry Irving and WSS have already skipped away holding hands in search of the tranquil Mykonos sands. Now the adults have fled, Young Stubbers is finishing packing his last crusty copies of Zoo and Nuts mags that he’s had hidden for the last nine months. In the Numbers wing, Shirty has fled clutching the point scoring system for his Magaluf lads holiday, while Lancashire Lad is busily putting the finishing touches to the Statbank before catch the steam train to the Norf. All that is left are the ageing unkept caretakers AFKA and Lookie scratching their heads and not knowing what to do with the barely conscious Suzi, who stinks like a French Vineyard after her and Curb It polished off the CL cellar after finally chasing the last of the sponsorship winners.

As you can see from the waffle above, a big team effort goes into ‘keeping things ticking over’ and we are grateful to all that go out of there way. Additional to the above there is RedM and the matchday crew who bring so much pleasure and togetherness, particularly to distant Addicks. SISS was a real standout moment this season. Then there are those that helped provide regular article content, particularly those who filled the summer months with brilliant Euro game previews and Championship team previews. We published in access of 150 articles and previews over the past 12 months. Was a real team effort and loads put some great work in. Thank you all. Well done also to Sadie for all the efforts she puts in with the Poker Club.

The Statbank is now four years young, and remains unique amongst these sort of sites. Still can’t believe this hasn’t been replicated through other clubs forums by now, but i’m sure someone will pinch something similar for next season. Lanc Lad does a brilliant job compiling all the player stats throughout the season and we are very grateful for fulfilling what is an onerous task so well. We’re already looking into ways to jazz it up next season, and look out for the Bumper End of Season statbank in the next week. Similarly Shirty, and the great work he does every week with the predictions.

A lot of people will always have the view that forums are full of negativity, but very rarely highlight some of the good things that can occur. We have always gone out of our way with CL to try and emphasise the potential for how forums can be utilised positively. The Shirt Sponsorship scheme was a great success again, allowing the sponsorship of 7 players. Through its members, CL has now sponsored 25 players over the past few seasons, assisting the club financially to the tune of £10,000 through this scheme.

The Auction scheme has also continued to be a great success. For the second year running, we were able to make a contribution to the Academy in access of £3,000, which was used to acquire additional minibuses. We were also able to raise £665 for the RBL through the Poppy Shirts, and our current fundraising effort for the Upbeats Programme is also in excess of £800.

Henry and Suzi deserve tremendous thanks for their efforts with the above, but also everyone of you who have donated or bid for items, or supported the sponsorship scheme. These are helping have a real positive impact and are not one offs, they getting repeated every year thanks to people’s time and generosity.

And finally, a general big thank you to everyone.

In some respects it has been a difficult year, and at a time when managers only seem to be in a job for five minutes, we took a very strong stance on here. Amid a backdrop of mixed results, suggestions that Jiminez didn’t rate Powell, and strong calls elsewhere to sack him, we have tried where possible to show our strong support for Chris Powell and to back him as positively as we could. The introduction of the 100% SUPPORT banner in November when things were dicey was mocked by many, but we wanted to make a clear statement. The majority on here embraced it, and i’m convinced that the strong support giving to him and the team in the stands when behind in that Cardiff game kept him in a job. When we went through a similar spell in February and the same calls were emerging, we were clear in our backing that if we had our way, we would make the banner twice as big if we could. Again, the majority once again backed what we were trying to do.

Yes, there will always be someone who winds you up on here, and forums by their nature can be reactionary. But there are a hell of a lot of wonderful, sensible, balanced Charlton fans that use this forum, we are very grateful that you do, and we hope it can continue long into the future.

Have a great summer

Up the Addicks !!

Your Admin Team

We have been invited once again to meet the Upbeats at Sparrows Lane on Saturday 11th May. Should we muster enough folk from here the invitation is there to take on the Upbeats at 5 a side, watch or join in their training session. Training lasts a couple hours and is a worthy yet humbling experience. I daresay once again we will retire to the local public house for refreshments after the event. Let me know numbers, either adding your name below or drop me a PM, also a quick shout for the photographers who would to take some photos of the day.
Many thanks
Ray.

Following on from someone saying how much they enjoyed the #E thread, it will be good to read what are others stand out highlights for them over the past season ? Could be a joke, picture, piece of advice, debate, funny reply, certain thread, regular feature, comp won etc.

A variety of things that stand out for me:

- The Cardiff match thread, starting with this post from Nolly when losing, that developed a legend. One of the best match threads we've ever had - http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/comment/1357944/#Comment_1357944

- Golfie's dating tales, starting with the following post, during the Singledom thread. http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/comment/1456431/#Comment_1456431

- Stig and JT's continued services to Photoshop and GIFs respectively

- Oggy reliving childhood tales from the late 19th century regarding Hop farm - http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/comment/1468649/#Comment_1468649

- Some great nostalgia regarding Teletext http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/50649/new-article-teletext-rip/p1

- Saint Christopher's Christmas Message (Grumpyaddick) - http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/52301/new-article-saint-christopher-and-the-kingdom-of-koc

- Some of the openness of some posters when the Jimmy Saville / abuse stuff first started to come to light

- Peanuts and his extraordinary committment to the Grand National thread

Its very easy to forget so much over the course of a season, but everyone has different highlights and remembers different things.

Be good to hear others thoughts.

We've one spare place come available on Bradley Pritchard's table for the dinner this Thursday.

The managing of winners has proved a bit of a headache for Suzi due to unavailabilities, so hopefully this will be the last bit of work for her.

So if you contributed, didn't win a prize and can DEFINITELY make the dinner on Thursday (6.45 arrival), please reply by 9pm this evening (no other replies to this thread please, use the other one).

Suzi will then redraw (and also a first reserve in the even of another drop out).
The Introduction

Sod this preview lark. How the flipping heck are we at Preview Towers expected to make any sense of what Charlton are going to do next.

A breath taking result v Barnsley after wins v Leeds and Bolton plus a draw at Brighton have left fans calculating what set of results could see us sneak into the play-offs, however unrealistic that might be. Regardless the late flourish has put a smile on everyone's face (bar Golfie of course). Now to finish off the season in style.

The Opposition

In a barmy, bonkers, baffling season Cardiff have been consistent enough to leave the rest behind and now need just one point to clinch promotion to the top flight. Their home form (15 wins, 4 draws and only 2 defeats) has left their rivals in their wake. But they can be beaten as the nine goal thriller at the Valley proved.

Unlike other sides who have relied on just one scorer (Palace and Blackburn spring to mind) Cardiff have shared the goals around. No Cardiff player has got into double figures but only Watford have scored more.

In Midfield Craig Bellamy is still pulling the strings but AFKA's favourite, Mark Hudson, has dropped out of the team in recent weeks. There was a promotion clause in the deal that took Mark Hudson to Cardiff. If it still applies no one knows but it might be worth checking the contract just in case.

The Line Up

Never change a winning side is the truism of all football truisms but Powell showed at Brighton that he is prepared to do just that if needed. Regardless we at the Towers expect to see the same 4-4-1-1 with Yann dropping deep that started at Oakwell.

If not, then expect Wilson to come in to beef up the midfield with Pritchard man marking Bellamy.

The bench is also likely to be the same although Stephens maybe preferred to Green, if fit.

The Trivia

Of all the clubs in the Championship only Peterborough have never played in the top flight. Of the others, the Club with the longest absence from the elite is Cardiff, who were relegated in 1961/2. It's been a long wait.

The Prediction.

5 - 4? 6 - 0? you might as well get a couple of dice, roll them and go with whatever comes up but we're saying 2 - 2. Pritchard and Kerkar.

Exclusive by Richard Crawley

Charlton have missed out on the signing of Burkina Faso international Florent Rouamba after the Football Association's Work Permit committee rejected the signing on the grounds of Addicks being a "small club".

In a decision that has left Charlton manager Chris Powell fuming the FA have given the official reason as "incompatibility of the parties".

Sources within the Club, however, say that the FA said, when pushed to explain the decision, that "If it has been a big Club like Chelsea or Norwich it would have been fine but you're too small a Club to sign this sort of talent."

The FA official is then meant to have said that "You should stick to loans from premiership clubs. That helps them develop their young players which helps the Premier League and that is good for football".

Tony Jimenez was unavailable for comment

Full story in Friday's Kentish Times

I sit on this as a fans representative as I'm now working in the Health & Safety field. The next meeting is on 19th September.

The Safety Advisory Group covers all aspects of Health & Safety and Security at The Valley and the surrounding roads during matchdays. The Group consists of a wide variety of members including Supporters Groups, Police, St John's Ambulance, Greenwich Council, Football Licensing Authorities and of course the Club itself.

My role within the Group is to represent the fans views and raise any concerns with any Health & Safety issues people may have particlurarly on a match day. My secondary role is to assist and support the Club in its efforts to ensure full complaince with current Heath & Safety legislation and therefore ensure all visitors and staff at The Valley have a pleasant and safe matchday experience.

As an excellent conduit for the views of fans, Charlton Life is obviously a good starting point to get peoples views, opinions and comments on their matchday experience - particularly relating to H&S issues.

To this end if you do have any views or concerns about Helath & Safety and security at The Valley or the environs during matchdays, then please let me know, either by adding to this thread or via my inbox and I will ensure any relevant concerns are raised at the next Safety Advisory Group meeting in an attmept to resolve problems which may arise.

I will of course keep you updated on any response or actions taken by the Club to resolve those issues.

Just one request - "West Stand Car Park Pot Holes" is a standard item on the agenda :-)

Can this be made a 'sticky' please.

Alongside our Player sponsorship efforts (another SEVEN players sponsored this season, thanks everyone), over the last year or so we have also attempted to raise funds for periphery club-related causes, such as minibuses for the academy, packs for the Young Addicks Christmas Party etc.

This has been achieved through the sterling efforts of @HenryIrving, and the generosity of fellow lifers in terms of donating and bidding for auction prizes.

With the assistance of Bromley Addicks, we are about to embark on another round of fundraising, and this time we have a definitive target and goal in place, as explained by Paul Hart below:

At the Charlton Athletic Academy our main objective is to create not only a very professional and educational learning environment but also one that is safe. Consequently last year we acquired, with the help of Charlton Life, Bromley Addicks and Valley Gold, two new mini buses, which enable us to transport about 30% of the boys from home to school or from home to the training ground.

We feel that, unlike many of our competitors, we can say to our prospective parents that we care for your boys whether they are on our premises or away from them.

Once again we find ourselves in a similar position to last year, we need another vehicle to add to our fleet of two so that we can further improve our commitment to our boys and their parents.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to anybody who is willing to contribute to this cause and I can assure you that it will be employed to have the greatest effect.

Kindest Regards

Paul Hart
Charlton Athletic Academy Director

So there you have it. Target £2,500 is now launched. If you have any prizes that you would be willing to donate and think may attract interest, please send Henry Irving an inbox message.

Thanks in advance to anyone who supports this initiative.

I have still taken previous survey results on board and have tried to mix it up as much as I can, there will be approxiamately 1 game every fortnight and the entrance is varied (see below) to cater for as many as possible. Nobody came to me with days they couldn't make so all I have done is avoided all CAFC fixtures, dates may be changed if match days are changed. The Leaderboard is due to be reset January 13th, this schedule takes us to then. All games are for leaderboard points.

I was contacted by 2 people asking for the games to start earlier, as 8-30 finished a little late, as 8-00 was a little too early for some I have compromised all games will start at 8-15. ALL GAMES HAVE 10 MINS LATE REGISTRATION

All Knock-out games will be 9 per table, All regular 6 per Table. I have schedueled a heads up shootout for the end of the year, last time because a couple of people were left without a game for quite a while it was a wash out for some but some others wanted to try it again. I think I have rectified the problem by making it a hyper-turbo; meaning we start with less chips and blinds go up very quickly so games should be super-fast.

The season finishes with a large stake regular tournament.

SUNDAY 15TH JULY BIG KNOCKOUT $13.50 ENTRANCE. 8.15PM
TUESDAY 24TH JULY AFFORDABLE REGULAR $3.30 ENTRANCE. 8.15PM
SUNDAY 5TH AUGUST REGULAR $11 ENTRANCE. 8.15PM
TUESDAY 14TH AUGUST KNOCKOUT $6.75 ENTRANCE. 8.15PM
SUNDAY 26TH AUGUST VERY AFFORDABLE KNOCKOUT $2.70 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
TUESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER REGUALAR $11 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER REGULAR $5.50 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
TUESDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER KNOCKOUT $6.75 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 7TH OCTOBER BIG KNOCKOUT $13.50 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER TURBO REGULAR $5.50 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 28TH OCTOBER REGULAR $11 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
THURSDAY 8TH NOVEMBER TURBO KNOCKOUT $6.75 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 18TH NOVEMBER VERY AFFORDABLE REGULAR $2.20 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
MONDAY 26TH NOVEMBER REGULAR $11 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 9TH DECEMBER AFFORDABLE KNOCKOUT $4.05 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
TUESDAY 18TH DECEMBER CHRISTMAS KNOCKOUT $6.75 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 30TH DECEMBER SEASONAL SPECIAL, HYPER-TURBO HEADS-UP SHOOT OUT $5.50 ENTRANCE 8.15PM
SUNDAY 6TH JANUARY END OF POKER SEASON EXTRA LARGE REGULAR $22 ENTRANCE 8.15PM

-if you don't already have it,download the free PokerStars software from www.pokerstars.com

-Open the main lobby, then click the Home Games tab
-Click the 'Join a Poker Club' button
-Enter the Club ID number: 19158
-Enter the Invitation Code: PSCharltonLife05

That's it.
And it came to pass that Saint Christopher of the Powelites, the chosen one of the one true Lord (Curbs) did lead his disciples to the sacred field of Sparrows for pre-match preps and a low calorie/high-protein Christmas feast.

And as Saint Christopher did wash the holy feet of Saint Solly of Diddyland in asses milk – for Saint Solly was too short to reach his own tiny feet- he did say unto his disciples,

“The chosen people of the red Valley are content this Christmas time. We have been victorious against the mighty dragons of Taffland and battled against hungry wolves and defeated the fearsome orange loons of the black pools and we can now bask in the warm and fertile land of mid-table obscurity. Praise be to the Lord (Curbs).”

And there was much jubilation and back slapping all around the sacred field of sparrows. The disciples did sing great hymns of praise for the one true Lord (Curbs) who had appeared to many as a ghostly angelic vision on a late night football show but never spoke a word in the presence of other men, so great was his faith in the mantra of two banks of four.

Only Saint Bradley of Lewisham could be seen sulking over by the corner flag and muttering to his agent on his mobile phone.

And then a great black ( BMW 7 series) chariot did arriveth at the sacred field of Sparrows (Directors car park) and the great King Slater of the Moneylenders did march towards them his robes billowing in the winter wind. And the disciples did all cower in great fear for many brave and long serving Addicks had been put to the sword in the temple for crossing the King or his great ally Prince Antonio, the wicked emperor of Spanish golf courses.

“Greetings my King,” said Saint Christopher, looking holy and sharp in his Nike designer tracksuit of many colours, “ and may the blessings of the one true Lord (Curbs) be with you always.”

“Bugger the one true Lord” roared the King who was clearly in a mighty hump as was often the case when the disciples pay day approacheth.

And Saint Christopher of the Powelites was also mighty afraid for though a brave and mighty warrior he did truly hate the evil Wise man of Yobbo who was the brother in law of the Prince Antonio and wanted to rule in the red Valley.

“There is now a new Lord around here and all disciples must worship Koc! ”

Saint Christopher did look mightily upset and confused for there was nothing about Koc worship in the holy word passed down from father to son since the ancient times when the Addicks tribe first roamed the Red Valley on the misty banks of the river Thames.

How could this word as written on the holy tablets by the ancient scribe, Saint Keith of Peacock (available in the valley superstore at only £9-99) be forsaken thus?

“But my King” stammered Saint Chris, “surely thou must have faith that only the one true Lord (Curbs) and his chosen one (me) can lead us to the promised land as it is written in the ancient tablets in the Valley superstore.”

“I am fed up spending my gold and waiting for the promised-land” roared the King “

“Now is the time for us to entereth the Kingdom of Koc Holding” he commanded.

For now the disciples too did look verily afraid for they knew not what this holding of Kocs might mean (particularly during post match showers) and verily thought that King Slater must have been on the cooking sherry at lunchtime or fallen heavily on is head during a marathon training run.

“But where is this unknown kingdom of Koc Holding and how shall we seek it out oh wise one?” asked Saint Jacko of Leftboot, bowing low to the King in the hope of extending his contract if Saint Christopher was indeed put to the sword by the grumpy King and the Moorish prince, to make way for the evil Wise man of Yobbo.

“It’s just outside the walls of the ancient city of Istanbul and there are giant sacks of gold spilling into the streets there” said King Slater rubbing his blood stained hands with excitement and looking slightly bonkers.

“And how shall we tell the proud people of the red Valley that we are entering the Kingdom of Koc?” asked saint Solly of the Diddymen, who still had his sacred feet in a bowl of asses milk.

“Do not telleth those stroppy buggers anything until we get there “said the King “for verily some of those ancient Addicks and tribal elders will only causeth me mighty trouble before I get my hands on that gold.”

Then Saint Christopher gripped with the fear of unemployment did feel his waters warm on his leg as he felt divine inspiration dripping through his Nike nylon tracksuit.

“The kingdom of the Koc Holding has become the kingdom of our Lord (Curbs) and of his chosen one Saint Christopher, and he shall reign forever and ever.” he proclaimed to the heavens.

And King Slater raised his eyebrows in despair, Prince Antonio polished his seven-iron, Saint Alex of Pressups blew a golden trumpet and there were cock jokes and carol singing all around. Weight-watchers range mince pies, prepared by the maidens at the checkout of Tesco Extra were served to the King and the Prince on golden paper plates and glory truly shone around.

And this is the word of the Lord (Curbs) and happy Christmas to the Addicks people where ever you might be.

Just in the nick of time for our launch

We also now have full membership, website, as well as launch tonight, AGM early next year:

Over 1000 followers and subscribers, and growing paid membership

(and as mentioned on another thread)

Every football club is special to an extent, and the reason being its more than money can buy. People love their club and that is special, not for gain or glory but because its part of them, and for me that is why it is worth fighting for.

Is Charlton special still? Yes because of our history, pretty much everything you see at the Valley today is a result of that specialness, without it we probably not be here.

Perhaps we got lazy, the supporters club was allowed to decline, but every revolution gets old as does every generation, we couldn't form a Trust before when in retrospect we most needed it a few years ago - I rue this personally as I didn't get involved due to just having my first child at the time. But all is not lost.

We can unite, we can rebuild and revitalise. We don't have to do it with fireworks, sacking the board, tearing down the club house. We can do it gently and with quiet determination. We can work with whatever situation, ownership and environment.

Little by little we can rebuild our fan network and revitalise our supporters with new blood and new ideas. We can work with the club to help in whatever way we can to make our club a success and keep the wolves from the door in the bad times. Sure we will have something to say when things are not right but only if we are able to do so in possession of facts and answers, not just complaints or rumours however worrying they are.

All our fans can do this, it costs nothing to subscribe and nothing for under 16s, and only a measley fiver a year to own a piece of the Trust and become a full member. Ask yourself when you come on Charlton Life or have a chat down the pub, how much you take the club and yes its various benefactors over the years for granted. Can we really moan about them and their real or apparent motives if we do nothing to help ourselves.

This is our club, we just need to show it by what we do to help it and not just take it for granted year on year. No one else will do it for us.

I hope we can bridge the gulf that has opened between fans and owners, tonight we will celebrate what the union of those two interests can achieve with our launch and back to the Valley celebration. It is this that I will fight for as long as people who support the Trust want me to do that as Chair, and as long as I can in whatever capacity outside of that.

The building blocks are in place, all we need now is You. Spread the word.

Barnie Razzell - interim chair, CAS Trust

According to my records, the amounts raised from the latest auction takes the amount CL has raised for charitable causes (excluding the regular auctions for club-related causes), to over the 50k mark.

It started in Sept 06, raising 125 pounds to sponsor a charity vets game at Belvedere for a seriously ill 12yr old fan, and has carried on to support many more causes, mainly Demelza, but also others such as the RBL and Meningitis UK.

Football forums habitually get a very bad press, sometimes deserved, but a lot of good can also be achieved, as seen here.

So if over the last six years you have raised money, done a challenge, donated a prize, or donated money.....

Thank you all.

Hi

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all on CL. We have been hammering this site a little, the forums are the main electronic way we can get our message out as we don't have access to any official club outlets.

60 or so committed Addicks fans once stood in an election for the Valley Party and stood up for what they believed in, that SE7 is our home, and the rest is history.

Now 20 years on CASTrust will launch on 5.12.12 two decades to the day of our first match back. We have over a thousand supporters and followers, a new website with members area and login, membership scheme, Professional and popular newsletter - e version is free to all subscribers/members - bank account, and will be fully incorporated any day now. Come and join us at Bartram's next week for our launch. We are not a clique from here or any other forum, or alligned to any particular view or grouping. We are dedicated committed ordinary fans who love this club who want to do what we can to help this club now and in the future, and will continue to work hard to demonstrate this.

What can we achieve? We will continue to listen to fans and build up our network so that we can go to a successful AGM early next year and elect a full board and hopefully give fans a voice. We are already working with and listening to suporters groups with the common aim of strengthening CAFCs fan base. We will also try and build a positive relationship with the Charlton board, so that we can offer assistance to the club towards our common aim of bringing continued success to the Valley.

Please do check out the new site, we are trying to make it a useful resource for fans so you keep coming back.

All the best

Barnie (razil) Razzell - interim chair, CAS Trust

www.castrust.org
